Unpopular Xmas opinion - I do not like any Xmas sweets like mince pies, Xmas cake, Xmas pudding etc. I think it’s because I really dislike fruity cakes.
My unpopular christmas thing is wrapping presents! Its just too fussy for me and I also dislike looking at all the waste that happens on Christmas morning. One year when I was working right up to Christmas Eve, my kids got their gifts in the store bags they came in, with bills on and no labels! We laughed about it at the time, and now they jokingly refer back to the time with affection. When the use of seasonal reuseable cloth bags became popular in the 80's or so, that was right up my alley. Does not look as fancy under the tree, but I don't care, the wrappy bit was driving me bonkers, so now it's gone from my life! Oh, also hate Christmas cake with all those bits of coloured fake fruity things. They are either gooey (dark) or completely dried out. Don't get me started on marzipan! I feel so much better now having had my grinch moment! Thank you for asking! Ha, ha. I actually love this time of year when the natural world quiets down (at least here in my part of the world), so I try to take that to heart and not get caught up in all the endless expectations of the commercial part of the season. Lovely episode! Hope you‘ll be better soon!! It’s kind of weird (for me) how many similarities I discover when I‘m watching your podcasts and vlogs. In the beginning it was kind of hard for me because I thought ‚I‘m not autistic, how can I have so many things in common‘. But autistic or not I‘m learning a lot from you like slowing down, trying to get time for myself, care for myself and my well-being. I wanted to say thank you for that, for being so open about it! Life can be so hard (in my case: my son‘s probably autistic so our everyday life is a huge challenge!) and I realise more and more how I‘m not made for the modern pace and I‘m trying to find my way. Thank you for sharing so much with us AND for reminding us every now and then that even you don’t show everything and the shiny youtube/insta world isn’t real. I got my diagnosis of Graves when I was 51. I also came up gluten intolerant at the same time. My doctor said those auto-immune disorders always hang out with buddies, never alone. So I've been proceeding as if Celiac has joined the chat as well. Unpopular Christmas opinion: I don't like tinsel.
I'm catching up on vlogmas now it's a bit calmer! Just wanted to say that for years I thought I couldn't eat too much gluten as I would bloat and have pain. In my late thirties I started having stomach pain that was so severe I ended up in A&E many times. After loads of tests which showed nothing wrong I was sent to a dietician, and found out that I have a severe gluten intolerance (possibly coeliac but I'm not eating gluten three times a day for six weeks to find out 😂). My dietician explained that inflammation from eating gluten builds up within the body, so although sometimes I feel like I am tolerating it well enough it does catch up with me. Sorry for the long post. I thought it might be important to share my gluten story as yours sounded so familiar. I would recommend the Coeliac Society if you wanted more info, or just telling me to bugger off if I'm overstepping! Your vlogmas is so relaxing but fun in a gentle way, thank you for sharing ❤

I think it is impossible to replicate, once your children are grown, the joy and magic of the holidays from when your children are itty bitty and enthralled. Oh- pasta...I don't know if it's available overseas but at least where I am in central NJ, there are alternative pasta made from corn and rice blends. Or other alternatives. ❤

Now that my boys are grown I just like a quiet low fanfare Xmas lol (gasp, I know) my family goes all out ridiculously the afternoon of thanksgiving here in the states and just all Xmas, all decorations, all parties all the time. Ugh, after cooking for 3 days leading up to thanksgiving (my favorite) I just want the quietly appreciating others lights etc and comfy nights at home.
Oh Laura - I have Grave’s disease too and understand just how you must be feeling - take care - I am really enjoying your vlogs - hopefully your meds will help you feel better - I ended up having my thyroid out and felt so much better after
The first Christmas season my husband and I were together we decided to do a Christmas movie binge day, it's a wonderful life, joy noel, love actually....I don't remember what else ... Mind you we were 19 at the time...any how we start watching it and the first scene that was a bit steamy shall we say comes up and he's looking at me I'm looking at him like you wanted to watch this ? I was very confused that this is what he chose... Obviously other scenes happened and I'm still a bit alarmed this is what he chose so eventually one of his sisters and his mom came in and he's like uh why did you tell me we should watch this? I was relieved... Turns out they've watched it so many times that the oldest sister knows exactly when to fast forward and they completely forgot 🤣had to share cuz it makes me laugh without fail
The hype of Christmas is hard for me. My parents are both gone now. I have no children so I really have no reason to feel festive. It is just hubs and myself. My sister may come to spend Christmas with us….oh my….that means a lot of housework and I may even put up a tree. But I would love to have her for Christmas. So let’s “crack on” with the preparations.
A movie is scheduled to be ongoing now. It is called the Shift. I can’t think of anyone in my circle that would like it. I may very well go alone….a midday matinee….popcorn and a beverage. I like going to the cinema alone.

I finally went to a show by myself this year and had so much fun, I did meet some friends at intermission so that really helped. I really dislike mince pie. Love actually such a classic, but you can go another time ❤
Recommendation for you - Tesco’s red lentil pasta. It’s easy to get hold off and doesn’t have a grainy texture that I find a lot of other gf pastas have. Loving Vlogmas 🙂 thanks for keeping it real.
Oh gosh I’m so glad I found your channel!! You are so lucky to get eggnog lattes, we don’t have them here in Washington state across the pond. That was what I looked forward to every Christmas season. Love your patterns and will have to pick up the hot water bottle .
I might have to try that pasta recipe (minus the chestnuts, I have a nut allergy). It would've been so fun to go see the show alone, but gets lots of rest. Sending all the restful and restorative vibes.
I do the same as you do with my hair. The ponytail bothers my neck. The gluten intolerance may be due to the Graves Disease. I have Hashimotos and I'm not supposed to have gluten either. I have been feeling ill myself. The nap did me wonders yesterday. I hope you feel better.
