VN24 - 01-05-2024 (D/M/Y) - Lünen (NRW) / Germany - A serious traffic accident occurred at around 10:55 a.m. in Lünen on the Münsterstraße / B54 federal highway. The 81-year-old driver of a Mercedes convertible CLK was seriously injured in the accident and his 65-year-old female passenger was slightly injured. Both occupants were taken to hospital by the emergency services. According to initial findings, the driver of the vehicle left the road to the right at full speed due to a medical issue. The car broke through a crash barrier and collided with the outer wall of an art gallery, which collapsed under the force and fell into the building. The Mercedes convertible then skidded on and came to a halt a few meters behind, wedged between the wall of the building and the crash barrier. The towing company Kollmer was initially commissioned to recover the wreck and tow it away. However, due to the special circumstances of the accident site, a special traffic accident investigation team from the police was subsequently requested to investigate the accident and decided that the car should be impounded. For contractual reasons, another towing company, Widliczek, had to be called to the scene of the accident. Members of the German Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW) secured the building against collapse and falling parts.
