I watched this entire video with fascination. I bet your winter of skiing has increased your fitness a lot, and is a contributing factor to your improved efficiency. Nice one. Marc!

Thanks Matt, I'm 100% sure the skiing has helped in so many ways! (actually I touch on it on a next video). Coming to the hot season for you now hey!!!! back to them early morning runs, oh wait, you're already doing that :)

It's fascinating how little VO2 Max matters in a marathon. There was an article by Outdoor Magazine that discussed the impact of VO2Max based on the runners from Kipchoge's first breaking 2 project. The runners average PB's in the half was 1hr4sec and full was 2hr6min53sec and the average VO2Max was 71.0 ml/kg/min. The lowest score was 62 so Marc, you should be able to do a pretty fast marathon with your engine 😄 Sub 2.10 marathon series coming soon? 😆
@runningwithmarc
@runningwithmarc 3 года назад
Yes it's not a number that defines the results or your results, as you need to put in the endless hours/days of training and perfecting many things. As you said though, it gives you an insight to what your ability could be if you dedicate yourself to it. You might have to wait a while for that series haha.

That's amazingly wide difference in Vo2max test results I didn't know it could be so inaccurate. Thought I would do it for fun someday after the streak if the end never comes ☺️ Thanks for sharing 👍

Yes, equipment issues are the core reason for this variability unfortunately! c'est la vie 🤷

Damn, that was cruel Marc! Well done on pushing through. I think you are probably more aerobically strong now, my FTP on bike is similar to years ago but I can use a higher percentage of maximum and stay aerobic ,so you have energy at end of race still. Hoping to raise the ceiling next, doing more polarized training and more physiology analysis on Golden Cheetah(its free too). Best of luck for next challenge or goal you have.

Hey Dom, really interesting to hear about your training and how it's progressing and the plans. From what I have seen on Strava, you're in great shape, don't think I'd be able to keep up :D Not sure what is the next challenge or goal is yet :D but I'll be sure to share.

For some reason the bell notifications did not tell me this video was up. This is fascinating Marc! And that is a drop in Vo2 that doesn't make sense to me given the drop in HR at the same pace you mentioned
@runningwithmarc
@runningwithmarc 3 года назад
hehe, good you enjoyed it in the end. Yes unfortunately in this case it was a case of equipment malfunction, but good to find out all the other values for my training, and just interesting to know and follow progression.

@@runningwithmarc also, that fat percentage is really healthy for an endurance athlete. I'd say you are in awesome shape Marc

Marc, Wonderful video You're definitely got the endurance and to see you struggling was hard to watch. Wow! Mind over matter..the guys are definitely there to push you on. I won't last 10 mins. V02 Max data is really good. Great results . What is your age? Our body is a great machine and you seem to always training to become a more effective person & runner. Great information . Cheers:)))

Cheers Beverly for the support, for sure it is mind over matter for quite a large share of it. With these tests it's quite intimidating as you don't know how long it goes on for :). I'm 36, yes like everything life, always wanting to learn and grow :)))))))

For me the results were something like 54 VO2Max and 4'20 pace as a LT, gave up after 3'30 pace 3 minute bout :) Well, at least it gave some motivation for the winter, so I've got a fair bit faster since then

Interesting video. I did a couple of similar VO2 Max tests back in the 90s and arguably harder than some races. Bit puzzled why your VO2 Max dropped so much. I think, as you alluded to, must be an element of equipment issues there especially if you got to more or less the same speed. Has your weight changed much between the two and what about your approximate 5K times then and now? That ought to be a sanity check on the numbers you get. Out of interest how you do stop of your own accord there - hope the harness works! ?
@runningwithmarc
@runningwithmarc 3 года назад
Hey time, equipment issues is more than likely the cause of value difference, this time round I was actually 1-2kg lighter. 5k 2019 was around 18minutes and 2020 17:30-ish. For stopping, either have faith in the harness, or signal with arms and he stops it, it actually stops pretty quickly... although he did say, for best results, always better to finish a step (so 3 minutes), then they stop it to take blood lactate value anyway.

great video once again, im wondering if you have any tips/advice for building muscle through lifting weights while also distance running
@runningwithmarc
@runningwithmarc 3 года назад
Hey Laura, something I need to perfect, so probably not the most valid tips I can give.... however I can say start small, do body weight exercises. I think for most runners, body weight exercises are enough, and later when used to the load and running, some plyometrics could be good.
@Laura-nx7ev
