South Africa's public broadcaster SABC reports that the newly elected parliament assembled Friday as news broke that efforts to establish a unity government are coming together. The U. N. Security Council on Thursday demanded a halt to the siege of al-Fashir in Sudan's North Darfur region, by the country’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces.
