Israel: U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said a Hamas statement of support for a U.N. resolution backing a proposal for a cease-fire in Gaza was a "hopeful sign." He said, however, that definitive word was still needed from its leadership in Gaza. Blinken was visiting Israel Tuesday.
West Bank: Hamas said that one of its commanders in the occupied West Bank was killed in a clash with Israeli forces. A joint statement by the Israeli army and police earlier on Monday said undercover forces had tracked down a suspect wanted in an attack on a nearby Jewish settlement.
Germany: Russian strikes on Ukraine's energy facilities have destroyed half of its electricity generation capacity since winter, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Tuesday. He spoke at the start of a two-day conference in Berlin with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz ahead of a peace conference in Switzerland. Russia is not attending the talks in Switzerland.
Thailand: More than a thousand exotic animals, reptiles and pets perished in a sprawling market in the capital, Bangkok, after a fire ripped through over 100 shops in the early hours of Tuesday, authorities said. Police said an initial inspection suggests an electrical fault caused the fire.
