I absolutely love everything you're doing with your channel. You seem to be staying very true to what this channel started as which is rare these days on RU-vid and something I admire. I also love that you're not only reacting to every super popular song that comes out. You're still reacting to everything. I hope your channel stays this way. This video was very interesting. It's a side of music that generally we dont get to see so thank you!
This album was a major success. The problem is that radio now only focuses on rap, country, and "edgy pop." A lot of rock and alternative are more pop nowadays just to get radioplay. Imagine Dragon does this pop-rock hybrid. We need more music with real singers and real instruments. Too much computerized songs with digitally altered voices.
You're a great interviewer, Sam! you listened to Jacquire King the whole way through, gave him time to speak and asked the right questions. I feel like Jacquire definitely opened up near the mid-end of the video too. Great job!
What's so great about this is that you know exactly what's happening vocally and have the inate ability to articulate it really clearly leaving room for very focused questions and equally clear answers. Props to you mate, really good video 👍
Hey Sam, nice to see how you and your channel are growing. BTW, there are several artists in "Tiny Desk Concert" channel with unplugged performances interesting for your analysis. Bye amigo.
Hi Sam, first time commenting but have loved your videos for a while! This was incredibly interesting and informative, thank you for making such great content! :)
It was interesting what Jacquire said about making sure they were recording in a key that would be sustainable for an artist when performing live. I've sometimes wondered about that, because off the top of my head, Adele, Sia & Hozier have recorded songs where I've not heard them able to sing it live as well as the recording, there's just a line or something in the song that's juuuust out of reach. So, that made me wonder if, when they were recording it, they knew this might be the case but they chose to do it for an artistic reason, or maybe not all producers think about this particular thing when recording an artist. Anyway, another brilliant video, Sam! Thank you! (Also, I was calling that little thing at the end of some the lines a squeak, haha, add that to the list of descriptors along with yowl etc. Hehe :D )
Thank you for this, Sam. I love your videos, and Jacquire King is my favorite producer - please keep doing more of these side by sides with the people who helped make these great records/performances!
All the magic in a voice is based on the right technology when you’re talking about production… you can have the best voice and it’d be ruined with bad supports as you record… thanks for this great chat with that man. (Excuse me in advance for my bad english, but I’m not bilingual at all)
All of the technical/production details are really cool but I’ve seen these guys several times and all I can say is Mr. Jacquire King probably has the easiest job ever ha. Every time I’ve had the opportunity to see Kings live, they’ve provided album level quality performances. LOVE them!
This is fantastic! Sam, if you're willing, I would really like to hear your analysis of Liam Gallagher's voice; from Oasis' early days to now. He had (has) such a powerful and unique voice and tone, but I've heard a few people say that he didn't use proper singing technique which is why he lost his voice later on and I'd love to hear what you have to say about that and about his voice and technique in general. Cheers, and great content!
Please react to Claudio Sanchez Englishman in New York acoustic. My favorite prog rock singer and amazing guitarist. He performs with his wife here. Coheed and Cambria-Englishman in New York
I love your videos. A lot of things you explained in your videos were unknown to me and you made it really easy to understand. Keep it up. I just saw a video of Henry´s One Take on "Love of my Life" of Queen. Can you react to it please?
So compression is the culprit of my ears phantom hurting when i have to listen to artists scream sing but the actual noise is low. Feels like my noise sensitive ears SHOULD hurt but they don't so they end up kinda hurting anyway.
*hi! please react to MAMAMOO’s Starry Night, Egotistic and Gogobebe MVS! They are widely recognised as one of the top girl groups in Korea and I think you would appreciate their flawless vocals and music and their stage presence very much!*
I always love ur videos and the guests are an interesting addition and to see the extra perspective is cool Idk if u see all recs in ur comments but since u listened to LP and id commented before abt her ill give it a shot. Her newest live performance of her new album came out today and its a great show of her talents again ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0bTgVMWxMZI.html
Maybe it's just me, but at the start it kinda looked like Jacquire King wasn't to sure about this whole react video idea. Then he quickly learned what a professional Sam is and really got into the discussion and enjoyed it. :D Really nice format!

My favorite part of the video is 12:20 when Jacquire makes a comment during the video, unprompted. At the beginning, he seemed very reserved and not sure what to say, but after a great back and forth conversation that you guided him into, it felt like he really opened up at that moment and that was really cool to see. Great interview!!
Finally someone really explains compression in recording, sometimes the reason why singers don't sound live the same as in record has more to do with compression than with autotune, which is what most people assume nowadays. Not everyone uses autotune in recordings.
When people start complaining about overuse of autotune, I just assume they don't know anything about music production, because I don't know a single singer who would like to use autotune.
I can’t even begin to say how much I loved this. This additional perspective in reviewing vocals was brilliant and I’m so here for it! So many people forget about or don’t even realize that the sound engineers put in hours of work on a track. Like he was saying from pre-production, where there is so much consideration put into the best microphones for the artist’s voice, headphones etc, to analyzing/determining the best suited vowels and verbiage during and then all post production. This was incredibly insightful! Been watching ur channel since...idk...maybe 10k subs but never commented- so gonna get it out in one post lol What I always love about your “voice teacher reacts” videos and channel is that you give actual vocal analysis. So many others, I feel, either provide just criticism; not constructive criticism and/or constantly sing over the artist to almost prove they sing “just as good”- like, “see that’s nothing big, I can do it right now” kinda thing. I don’t care about that- I care about exactly what you’re always talking about in ur videos and doing when u sing to teach- that’s HOW to use the voice as the instrument that it is and all the fine tuning elements. HOW to get the note. Learning about vowels, mouth shape, teeth, tongue placement etc has helped me not only become more knowledgeable about it but also become more aware and make improvements with just my public speaking that I need to do! Lol Along with singing of course 🥰 Point being, it goes even beyond singing. This additional technical perspective with sound mixing was awesome. Same goes for you’re vocal professor! Just watching what you all notice and pick out from the vocals and technique is soo helpful! I have had so many “oh wow...I didn’t notice that” moments lol I know this was long. It is amazing what you’re doing! Thanks for such great high quality and educated content in a space that is often so opinionated. Just speaking for myself, as an academic, I truly appreciate it! You’re showing the value of education and having knowledge 💯 👌 great stuff!! P.S.- You’re such a good example of how to properly engage with and conduct an interview with a person too! Thoughtful and helpful questions! Letting the person speak. 👏 Awesome job Sam! Ur killing it! 🙌👏🎼🎧🎤
I could've written this myself! I've also been around since back in the "long hair" days 💇♂️😂 and I've not really commented either, but you've said just about all the thoughts I've had myself! Especially the points on other RU-vid "vocal coaches"! More often than not, the ones I see just seem to be aspiring singers looking for an opportunity to show off. They parrot every riff and run the artist does just to showcase their own capabilities. The flip side, like you said, are the over critical "coaches" who just want to look...knowledgeable? Like, they can spot mistakes no one else notices? Or, who knows, maybe they're just haters lol Sam does neither of these things and is incredibly informed. It's also evident that he's incredibly passionate! I've seen him display equal enthusiasm for all genres and styles because he has such a love and passion for music in general. And even more than that, he just has this charm about him that just makes you love him! He is just such a joy to watch and I hope he continues to grow and create.... And I don't know why I felt the need to basically repeat everything you just said, especially since I started this by already saying I felt the same way, but oh well, there you have it 🤷😂
This is so interesting. I never fully considered what goes into recording a voice and the importance of microphone choice. This made me want to get into a studio to record immediately.
Kelly Cappiello that’s why people often cringe when they hear themselves from a phone mic and played from phone speakers. There’s so much that goes into making a good voice sound perfect for mainstream
You're in my neck of the woods! Super exciting to get the perspective of someone who works with sounds singers work so hard to produce well (and voice teachers work so hard to help singers produce well).
You should react to Cold Desert from the same album. Caleb didn't even have lyrics for the second verse - he just sung whatever came to his head. One take. A-MA-ZING.
Been waiting for you to review KOL! Caleb has one of my favorite Male voices. This was so interesting! Love all the background info. And really enjoy your continual appreciation and excitement for artists and their music.
This is so informative. It's easy to think that singing just occurs naturally to these people but here you show us that there's a production side to this to really make the voice shine. Thanks for this!
This is really cool Sam, great stuff! Love how Jacquire talks about trying to capture his true vocal sound as close to his natural voice as possible and how important the microphone choice is when it comes to that goal. And then beyond that, understanding how the lyric choice and/or "refinement" can impact the vocal performance vis a vis the main melody and rhythm of the tune. And a great producer / mixer understands how important it is to keep from getting carried away with compression. Love the detailed analysis, thanks Sam! And Jacquire!!
I love this kind of video! I also really like your usual solo kind but now and again to have two experts having an intelligent, technical conversation coming at things from slightly different but mutually intelligible angles is really refreshing. More of this in due course, please!
This is the first video of yours I've seen, but I love the idea of talking to engineers about the recording and you adding your vocal knowledge as they discuss the recording process and equipment. This is wonderful.
I just stumbled on your channel and now I’m addicted. It’s so nice to find a genuinely nice, positive RU-vidr! Request: please do Shinedown “Simple Man (in my house version)! ❤️
Hi Sam, could you do a vocal analysis of Sam Brown singing A Great Gig In The Sky from Pink Floyd? She's such an underrated singer so I was wondering if you'd know her or would like to check it out :)
As someone who's really only had experience with stage sound, just learning this little bit about recording, compression in particular, answers so many questions I didn't realize I had
Hey Sam! Could you please react to South Asian music? I'd really love to hear your perspective on the differences between the techniques used in the East vs. the West. Specifically, could you please analyze "Rang," a qawwali sung by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Amjad Sabri in Coke Studio Season 9? It is absolutely amazing!
This is one of my favorite videos that you have done Sam. I learned SO much! That is largely because you asked good questions and actually let him answer without talking over him. Good stuff. You’re slaying it Sam. Been a viewer since early on and I can say your channel has gotten better and better, and it was pretty great to start with.
Jeez, masterclass guys. Thank you so much. There was some great info in there on vocal performances and how to record them that I haven't heard before. I subbed.
This was special, Sam! You added another layer to your already brilliant videos. So cool to hear about the other side, the production side. That's why you are the best! 🤘🏻
