While that may be true, she does lip sync a lot and this particular performance is undeniably lipped in its entirety. Just by listening and watching, many parts don’t align
Mariah had it all her career people questioning wether she sings live or not. No other artist is ever questioned vocally as much as Mariah, only because Mariah set the standard so high, even for herself. Lip sync or not, Mariah’s musicality is undeniable and her legacy speaks for itself.
People forget that she’s been singing non stop her entire career and she gave us unmatched vocals for a solid 20 years starting from her debut in 1990. I don’t care if she used pre-recorded vocals or not, cuz at this point she’s got nothing left to prove. And let’s not forget, on top of going on tours, singing on live television or any promotion she has been doing for decades, she is also a songwriter and producer! And she is a night owl, writing songs and creating melodies at night constantly especially during the 90s all the way up to 2000s!
ive been a lamb since 2014 and i dont really care if she sang live or not atp, i love her in and out, and i'm grateful she still gives us new vocals and version of songs 😌
Listen... Let me inform all of those who are saying Mariah can't sing and harping about the lip syncing. She has already put in the work for decades in her career. Her vocals have been overworked. There are singers who have damaged their vocal cords from touring for years and doing performances and shows night after night for years. At this point as an older woman where most actually retire.. she's just giving us recaps. She's already established herself in the industry when she was in her 20's and 30's. Let me tell you about something that happens to people specifically women when they age because Me and Mariah are the same age. We're both in our 50's. Not only does childbirth (due to the shifting of organs because of this whole human that's growing inside of you) change your vocals (hormones affect and change your vocals as well)... but when women for through the "change of life" (perimenopause and menopause), it changes your voice. I don't sing like I did in my 20's and 30's. My voice started changing somewhere around age 44 I'm 53. Also let's factor in the fact that certain things like reflexes slow down as you get older. I've had to adjust to those changes. I'm a musician and singer and have noticed my reflexes in terms of playing classical music... the really fast stuff...It takes longer for me to grasp and requires more practice time than when I was younger. So many changes with aging that ppl are completely unaware of. Mariah is an amazing singer!! One of the absolute best! She was at her prime in her early career. You millennials and younger Z's stop criticizing an older woman who had already put in the work and given her best for decades. Where's the respect? She's already been there and done that! Right now she's just giving us recaps for those who enjoy the nostalgia. Go and listen and enjoy her albums from the 90's and early 2000's 🙂.
Sadly, it is not "live", however... It is NOT entirely 100% pre-recorded/lip-sync, as this lady & others in the comments are suggesting. The percentage of live vs. not live is still very, very high - likely upwards of 90 to 95%. If you want to get a better/full understanding, the YT channel 'VMariah' is a fantastic resource for understanding Mariah's methods & practices (ie. pre-recording, playback, lip-synching, the 5W's for singing live etc.). Specifically, the channel produced a series (I believe it's 10 parts) called 'The Art of Lip-Syncing'. The series is a deep-dive review, analysis, breakdown etc. (past & present) regarding the evolution of Mariah's approach to performing throughout the last 3+ decades. There are a few findings I disagree with, however, I do agree w/ 95%+. Regardless, it's a fascinating series that I would highly recommend to anyone interested in the topic of live performances/vocals (live vs. not live, lip-syncing, playback, pre-recorded etc).
Yeah it's pre-recorded but I heard that all the performances were but it was still a beautiful performance, she looks so beautiful 😍. I think you should go more into Mariah's discography. I swear to you that the album tracks are way better than the singles. Thank you for this reaction, i respect your work so much ❤️🦋
I was at this performance and i can tell you it was live. Also as someone who works in entertainment i can tell you that when vids are uploaded on to certain platforms they can slightly lag, making it look like an artist is lipping. We all know Mariahs voice isnt the same as it used to be, but its ridiculous to think she cant even sing one of her own songs live! People are comparing performances that she does in concerts / tours where she has to sing 15+ songs many nights in a row, so of course she will lip or sing along with the backing track to preserve her voice. Im sure she was well rested for a few days before this 1 song performance. Had she had to sing more songs it mightve been a struggle but cut her some slack. Also, Mariah is the worst lip singer , you can clearly tell when she is lipping coz she goes crazy with her hands and hides her face a lot. Its nice to see some clean professional footage of her current voice as most of her performances now are recorded on cells phone which can effect how she sounds on videos .
Exactly! Her vocals have been overworked. She's been in the biz for decades. She's already put in the work and proven herself and gotten the awards and notoriety.
I'm NOT associated with them, however... The YT channel 'VMariah' is a fantastic resource for understanding Mariah's methods & practices (ie. pre-recording, playback, lip-synching, the 5W's for singing live etc.). I think it's better to delete your comment! 😂 Other toxic fan bases that even their favs have been lip syncing since forever- are using this series to discredit Mariah ignorantly by nitpicking what serves their agenda without actually watching the whole thing! for anyone who isn't a fan: she started lipping partially mainly in the rainbow era (only first 2 months of 98, late 99- early 2000) during her temporary vocal decline before getting way better vocally in 2002-2005 (although she kept lipping) but during this time and even after she had multiple songs and televised concerts that were 100% live.
Mariah Carey - Love Takes Time (Stockholm 1990) Mariah Carey - If It's Over (Grammy Awards 1992) Mariah Carey - Anytime You Need a Friend (Live at Tokyo Dome 1996) ❤
hello there, great video. This is clearly live. She sings on top of pre-recorded backing vocals, but the main vocals are all very live. I can´t believe you don´t think this is live. It is, but the stacked voals are pre-recorded. SHe gave a great performance. You should reacts to her recent concerts in Brazil in Sao Paulo Allianz Parque Arena and at Rock in Rio...both awesome performances xoxoxo great video
Here's a few suggestions you would like. 1.Emotions at Mtv Unplugged 2.Vanishing Rehersal for SNL 3.We Belong together BET Blueprint Also there are some really good ones in the comments. Like anything at Tokyo dome is amazing. (Someone said Anytime you need a friend, and thats a yes) Oh and 4. Make it happen from MSG
For over a year, Mariah Carey has been holding her public performances and concerts almost entirely with tracks in new studio vocal recordings with a live effect. However, I prefer that she actually sings live for more than half instead of seeing her mime
No surprise here. When she first came out at the peak of her abilities people said her voice wasn’t real and she couldn’t sing live despite several life performances. She’s had to spend 34 years proving haters wrong yet they still doubt her. All these self professed vocal coaches. Mariah sang that song live
Even if it were “lypsinc” that’s a pre-recorded version of that same day in dress rehearsal. But honey you’re smoking some good good because the microphone is ON! And I’m also a vocalist who has followed Mariah through the decades and know which performances are live.
Parts of this is probably dubbed for tv broadcast, performed live and then is realigned in post, to add in audience reaction and wide shots etc, if you slow the original posted video to .5 speed her mouth and the words are nearly always in perfect sync, and that would not happen if it were totally lip synced.
I don't think she is lip singing here because she is off key in various places throughout the song, if it is a pre-recording, it would sound better in my opinion. And yes, I know that artists like to make recordings imperfect so that people don't think they are fake, but imperfect and off key are not the same thing, and she sounds a little bit hoarse.
Great reaction. Maybe react to we belong together at the 2018 I heart radio festival please. Only the climax is lipped like always but for the most, that's live.
Would you PLEASE consider watching/reacting/responding to the series of videos from the YT channel 'VMariah' called 'The Art of Lypsyncing' I would really, really, really LOVE to her your opinion as a professional! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
“Probably lip synched” based on what? I don’t understand why reactors and commenters feel she’s just incapable of sounding good anymore. True colors are showing…
we belong together at live 8 is live and the one good morning america performance that playback vocals failed to play so she is forced to sing the climax live :)
You’re right Zoe, she’s been using pre-recorded vocals for her recent tour too! In her recent shows for example which are about 2 hours there’s only a few minutes where she’s actually singing live. It’s a shame but I respect her decision
I'm sure that it's not something she wants to do. She went through a lot of vocal issues during 2022 and last year so she's basically resting her voice cause she doesn't want to lose it. Nodules are such a complicated thing to deal with, especially while being a singer with 34 years into her career. She has them since she was a child and has gotten worse and worse over the years. I feel bad for her cause she's so talented.
Loved you’re analysis! It would mean so much if you could analyze her performance of “Can’t Let Go” on SNL which is 100% most definitely live ❤ Thank you so much! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-cQodEESU4U8.htmlsi=5I_13EGFrSVyVOKU
THANK YOU! For the honest opinion / disclaimer 😅 of this not being live! To be a pro and critiquing such a thing I would at least hope for that. Too many are afraid to admit the Queen, Mariah is a lipsynch assassin 😂
It’s live, not sure where you saw anything not “matching” her lip movements. I would suggest you study Mariah a bit more before making assertions. Those hand movements to keep herself on pitch and the shutting of the eyes at key parts…she doesn’t do that when she’s lip syncing. She’s not great at lip syncing, and although she’s gotten better over the years, if you know enough about her style and how she sounds live, it’s easily recognizable.
She did a very similar performance of this song about 3 years ago in The Butterfly Lounge. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bGGQN2L1FrY.html
She has a lot of background vocals but the frontal was 100% live. She's the queen of agility. Amazing that people things she's lip synching - I'm like, no, she's mastered singing like Aretha, Whitney and Patti.
@@artistaroundtheblock2047 I really think you're looking too much into it. This song has a lot of words and consonents pressed into quick lines and melodies. She "sounds" live, i.e. it's not perfect, there are imperfections, and you can hear her over the background vocals. I've seen her lip synch in the past and she's not very good at it :P :P I still believe the main vocals here are live. Although, this was recorded 2-3 days before it was released so yes, it's live, but edited.
