This was college life in the Philippines: a bunch of kids, or some members of glee clubs or singing clubs just singing away in hallways and building corridors and corners. Music is very prominent in the Philippines. Singers like Katrina Velarde and Charice (who used to compete in the same singing contestss) start at a very young age joining amateur singing contests in every town fiestas, until they become good enough to join regional singing contests to televised ones. By the time that they are their teens, they are almost like pros. You won’t survive singing contests in the Philippines unless you’re the best. The competition is always good. The audience are brutal. Most households have karaoke. Not just for practice. Filipinos just really enjoy singing.
