It's a song about regret over being an addict and the damage and pain he caused to others. When he and Reznor say, "If I could start again..." they are NOT trying to make any of that okay. They are saying, if I could get out of this addiction Hell hole I've created for myself and start all over again, I would not even try these drugs (amphetamines were Cash's favorite but he did them all) and I would not throw myself away and cause others and myself all this pain. And, for Cash, as the video strongly implies, I would get right with Jesus...

Nine inch nails usually wrote this sand didn't want johnny cash to Sing it but after sending them his version.The man that wrote the song off 9 inch nails said in a letter interview.I was Destined to write the song but johnny cash was destined to sing it

Closing the piano feels like he is saying goodbye and knows that he will pass soon. A final goodbye to everyone he loved and everyone who loved him. May he and june rest in each others embrace for all eternity.

Johnny Cash had a hard life and a tortured soul. He is a legend in music and will always be iconic. The only thing that really mattered to him in life was his wife, June Carter Cash. He died four months after her. This is a cover he did of a Nine Inch Nails song. I suggest you listen to his very famous "Ring of Fire" or "Folsom Prison Blues"

One of the saddest things I read about Johnny Cash's life was that when he was still a child he lost his older brother who he was very close with suddenly in a work accident. I cannot imagine how traumatic something like that must be for a child at such a vulnerable age and I suspect impacted his life in a huge way😢 I'm very close with my siblings and cannot imagine if one of them had died so tragically when I was a child.

This should not be the first Johny Cash song that someone listens to, it should be the last. He has had a 50-plus year career at the top of his game, across many genres. At least the video gives a glimpse of him in his prime. Nevertheless, your reaction did do the song justice and you obviously felt the emotions of it. Gotta say I like your philosophy of 'less talk - more reaction. Definitely deserves a thumbs up.

Johnny Cash believed the famous true saying “Only one life, it will soon be passed, only what’s done for Christ will last.” Johnny Cash knew that some of the sins that Jesus died for on the cross or his own as a believer.
