A great example of what you said at the end is a Beyonce version of this, in which she loads all her ammunition and Beyonces all over the song with her signature trills and tricks, vibrato runs, etc. making the performance about Beyonce and not about serving the song. I don't know how someone only twenty years old can have such an instinctive sense of phrasing, and intonation, and convey such a deep emotional connection with these lyrics. This song should eat someone that age alive, but Billie swallows it whole along with the plate, the cutlery, and the table.
I think that Billie should take on Billie... I can see Billie Eilish singing the hell out of "Strange Fruit" and bringing it a whole new meeting in this era!
OMG YES!!I have been waiting for a Billie jazz album since i first heard her EP i immediately felt the HUGE influence of the singers of the 20-50s and i thought it was a genius for being able to modernize that vocality when she was only 13/14 years old, so amazing and unique voice... literally...
If humanity gets our collective shit together her next 25 years are gonna be like if Joan Baez, McCartney & Lennon (writing) and Janis Joplin all had a baby. Here. For. It.
Billie could bring to a jazz album...exactly what Lady Gaga brought to a jazz album...and we all know how that went!! This girl's journey is flowing exactly where it needs to be flowing. She was such an wild card at first but people had to realize she was young; just having fun and doing it...she's growing and finding her niche, and doing it swimmingly well might I add!
Jan. 16, 2023 - I love Billie's rendition of "Fever"; I just listened (again) to Peggy Lee singing "Fever" in 1963 - she sings it almost twice as fast (or it seems like it) and Jack Sperling on percussion is absolutely awesome - just like Christian McBride on the upright bass with Billie. Not only the vocalist is important in these songs.
I would love that! I just listened to Ella Fitzgerald singing "Dream a Little Dream" just a couple days ago. Billie could do Billie (Holiday). The Count Basie Orchestra is legendary. Billie also sings "Is That All There Is" with Debbie Harry - maybe you watched that one. I might have mentioned last fall, that for your own pleasure you give Billie singing "Sally's Song" from Danny Elfman's "Nightmare Before Christmas", a listen. It's on the Lucid RU-vid channel, October 30, 2021 - it's very short. She also sings "Simply Meant to Be" with Danny Elfman [same channel]. Tristan Paredes on his channel covered Billie's "Sally's Song", and was quite shocked by her performance. On about July 22 2022, I drove to the Peggy Lee Museum in Wimbledon, N.D. - a town of about 125 people [190 miles SW of me] - I really enjoyed it - 2 women came from another town and the 3 of us were taken on a tour - I took many photos. There was a CA. license plate with "FEVER" on it!
Thank you Ms Nina S. Love your skillful input!! Did you hear AURORA's cover of Nature Boy? Excellent. I think Billie might do a cover album, she loves music she grew up with. She has covered 'Something', Yesterday'; and also "Sunny' and a few others already. But she has so much she wants to say herself so I'm not sure if it will be soon. Have you checked our Billie on Howard Stern doing 'Everybody Dies'. An even more amazing example of her vocal talent. Love to hear what else you think of Billie and AURORA.
yes I was thinking of that Sunny cover she did was so great too. And Everybody dies on HS was so amazing, the fact that the girl was super sick coffin and all in that interview and then sing that song like that...my god, no words! She is out of this world.
Like your comments Nina...nice to watch ...What about some blues?? Beth Hart?? Am I the one.Live in Paradiso Amsterdam..!!! Though to analize for sure...
Wow Jazz suits Billie's voice. I notice you haven't reacted to one song of Angelina Jordan !! She is probable one of the best singers to come along in decades! Jazz is her thing, but she can sing anything! how about you reacting this 16yr old singer?
I propose to draw your attention to a unique singer from Russia - *Diana* *Ankudinova* . Everyone who hears it for the first time claims that he has never heard such a voice in his life and recognizes it among thousands of other voices!
I was there last Wednesday. It was at the Hollywood Bowl for the Frank Sinatra-Peggy Lee tribute. She only sang two songs but she did close the show. I think I finally became a Billie fan that night.
A jazz album by Billie would be amazing, a rock album by would also be amazing… This girl can honestly do whatever she chooses. Not to mention, FINNEAS is a musical genius!! His production & songwriting skills with her and other big-name musicians makes me wonder if there is anything he can not do. They truly are a dynamic duo! Also, GREAT reaction, as usual! ❤️
Yess! I'm so glad you reacted to this, I was waiting for this video haha. On my page I also have a video of her from the same concert singing 'Is that all there is' together with Debbie Harry, also an exquisite performance!
It was a tribute concert for Frank Sinatra and Peggy Lee with the Count Basie Orchestra and various other artists at The Hollywood Bowl. It was great fun, you should have been there
So glad you analyzed this one. She's so versatile and I've wanted her to do more jazz singing since she put out "My Future". Most jazz songs are in that beautiful, sexy mid-range she has. I think it would be epic to Finneas and Billie put their stamp on some classics.
Yes! A Billie jazz album please! Here's a Billie covering Julie London if you're interested. Gorgeous. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kMpUUCgGjcA.html
This diamond should be in your collection. I would like to share with you my discovery. The voice of amazing beauty, power and depth, crystal clear, I heard from a beautiful girl and was fascinated by her. Her story moved me even more. At the age of 3, this little girl was found at a bus stop with a broken collarbone and other psychological and physical injuries. The child ended up in an orphanage, where her future foster mother worked as a masseuse. The story itself is a ready-made plot for an Oscar-nominated film. This girl is now 19 years old. She has about 70 victories in various vocal competitions. If you understand what it is to sing with soul, then this is about her. Diana also has a huge army of fans, and reactions are gaining tens and hundreds of thousands of views. The total number of reactions on RU-vid to Diana is about 13 thousand.
Best choice from Diana's channel: Can’t Help Falling in Love 4.6 million views 147k likes - total 797 reactions to this performance by Diana. Total number of reactions to Diana, about 13 thousand reactions, all added to my playlists. One of the most famous hits of the king of rock 'n' roll in an unrivaled gorgeous, phenomenal performance by Diana Ankudinova ( 18 y.o.) Can’t Help Falling in Love (Elvis Presley / DARK VERSION cover)
A few days ago was the release of the song Revelation. This song was the first completely original song by Diana Ankudinova, she herself wrote the lyrics and composed music. Several dozen reactions, all reactionaries are shocked once again, but now not only by Diana's voice, but also by a talent that can create not cheap one-time music, but hits for all time.
It's more big band than jazz, but I would love to hear her sing Ain't That a Kick in the Head. Also, Is You Is or Is You Ain't Ma Baby. That would be killer.
I second every comment here. More controversially I would add that I think Beyoncé has destroyed RnB by wailing way too much and influencing a generation to make RnB a wail-fest from start to finish. One should leave the fireworks for the finale for them to be effective.
It may be controversial, but I agree with you. Along with the wailing is an almost perverse tendency to quaver tone all around the melody so much that the actual tune disappears! This is simply abuse, not interpretation. I don't know if Beyonce gets all the blame here, but she is an occasional offender. She did a version of Fever, and I can't stand it. Give me Peggy or Billie any day!
Oct. 28, 2022 - Nina, I wanted to direct someone to the original and your link takes me to Alana Morissette "Could You Be the Messiah"; this note is for your eyes - I know there are a few "channels" with this song, so I'll look elsewhere. I just wanted to let you know - I'm not sure if such things can be edited after their posted - perhaps.
I have not listened to much of Billies work but I did enjoy her voice on this so maybe I'll listen to some more. You say you would like to hear her sing "Nature Boy" ... but would it be as good as AURORA did at Melkweg in 2018? Somebody in the audience called out for her to sing it and she did an impromptu performance.
