I really enjoyed your reaction! You may not realize it, but you've struck gold with Elvis Presley. He sang songs in all different genres including gospel, rock 'n' roll, country, rhythm & blues, and ballads often combining genres within a single song. If you're interested in doing more reactions to his music, I'd like to request: Elvis Presley - Trying To Get To You ('68 Comeback Special) (2:58) Elvis Presley - Surrender ((Official Audio) (1:54) Elvis Presley - Bridge Over Troubled Water (NEW mix! Great sound!) (4:04)

His best stuff in my view was in the blues genre, but gospel was obviously where he was most lauded. I just love his 50s blues works. Incredible vocals.

Thank you very much for the wonderful reaction, good job‼👍 The hopeful, uplifting "If I Can Dream" marked the rebirth of Elvis' career after he spent most of the 1960s recording mainly soundtracks to the movies he was appearing in. It was the last song he sang on Elvis, his 1968 NBC comeback special in the USA, which was his first live performance in seven years. The song was written at the last minute by the show's musical director, W. Earl Brown, at the request of the producer Steve Binder to replace "I'll Be Home For Christmas." He wrote it as a response to the assassinations of the famous dreamers Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King, which had happened a few months previously. In both the UK and US, this was Elvis' biggest chart hit since "Love Letters" in 1966. The meaning of the song is very contemporary: 'If I can dream of a better land. Where all my brothers walk hand in hand.' It's about uniting, it's about peace, freedom and happiness, and it's coming out at the right moment. We're really proud of what we did, and to be part of this project. I have a feeling it's going to be amazing. Priscilla Presley stated at a forum with Ron Onesti in 2017 that this and "An American Trilogy" are her two favorite Elvis songs.

Great reaction! Keep in mind that this is a tribute to Martin Luther King Jr. who was murdered 15 minutes from Graceland, Elvis’ home. That added to the agony of Elvis Presley’s heartache of King’s assassination! It is no wonder he sang this song was such emotions. Probably his greatest performance!❤

As per producer-director Steve Binder's interview, the song reflected the assassinations of both Kennedy's & MLK + the world's problems @ time. They had the TV on @ time when Robert Kennedy was assassinated -- & Binder & Elvis sat up until 4 a.m. talking everything over w-Elvis expressing his thoughts & feelings -- Binder asked Earl Brown to compose a song based on those discussions. The red tie was for the blood shed in Vietnam.

@@nealmalik9142 of course it encompassed the tumult of everything going on in the '60's & not just MLK's assassination; but know that it wasn't Elvis who asked for the song; when you watch Steve Binder's interviews (& there are many) he explains how Elvis, Binder + a few others were together when news of Kennedy's assassination came on in the TV room; they all went in to watch what was going on; afterwards, Binder & Elvis talked until about 3 in the morning about all the goings on; Elvis expressed his feelings & thoughts, & based on that, Binder asked Brown to come up w-something to reflect everything going on + what Elvis expressed. One video is "Gates of Graceland: Secrets of the '68 Special" -- it's long, but keep going until Binder explains how the song came to be; there are other videos in which Binder explains how they sat up all night talking about the goings on; thanks.

Or in contrast, go just two years further in time later after this 1968 Comeback Special and check out some of his amazing performances from his 1970s Vegas show. In the ghetto and Bridge Over Troubled Water, does really showcases singing, suspicious minds and Polk Salad Annie really show how he could have the audience in the palm of his hand and how much he and his band enjoyed performing live together.

This popped up in my feet and I subscribed hoping you will do more Elvis. The really straightforward an interesting take on it that was cool. There is so much here to explore with him. And you have to realize he first became a superstar around the age of 20 in the mid-1950s and this for example is from 1968, and there is footage of him performing all the way up to within seven weeks before his early death in 1977. And all of them are fascinating. He goes through so many different phases and then they had all those movies at some point in his early 20s and 30s. If you want to see him around 20 years old, check out the black-and-white television experience from The Ed Sullivan Show in late 1956 of him doing his hit hound dog. There is actually a more historical and iconic version of a live performance like that earlier that very year on the Milton Berle variety show where he does the same song. It set off a firestorm of racist and religious backlash for things that you wouldn't even blink twice at today. It's a strange Journey he went to but he was so good, surrounded himself with the best musicians, and really had a knack for not only arranging but singing and live entertaining.

@Bonita Oh, so as long as you blow smoke up Elvis's ass it is okay by your standards. So according to your rhetoric, I am not afforded the same opportunity as you to have an opinion, right? However, the moment some one comes along and tell the truth about Elvis you call them a troll, right? What you need to do is open the other eye and have a look at the way the black man was treated. The comment remains the same. It meant nothing to Elvis! Now go cry on somebody else's shoulder.
