The background voices are supposed to be symbolic for Dolores' gift and how it's getting into her head making it unbearable to hear everything about anything 24/7. The actual voices are just the voices from before, but put together and lowered. It's still annoying though, which is the point.
@icehorse2007

Or3o made the background noises a bit crowdy to make us understand what she hears from her point of vue, since the song takes place right after Mariano's visit, there a lot of rumors around the miracle being endangered and that is why Dolores cover her ears and we hear so many poeple at the chorus.

The back ground sounds are people speaking meaning that Dolores can hear them talking.But, I like. this song and it should be in a Encanto musical.

From my understanding, the singers in the background are reciting their verse lyrics. Because Dolores can hear everything, it overlaps over her vocals. I personally like it.

I think this background is made like that on purpose, because as you said Dolores hears everything, but doesn't want to so she tries not to listen to it and that might be the reason why it might not be quite understandable.

If I'm not mistaken the reason her voice is a different pitch in the final verse may be telling us that Dolores is at her breaking point and won't hesitate to raise her voice so that people can hear what she has to say. To me this makes sense especially when you see the silhouette of her with her ears covered throughout the final verse.

Okay so, the thing is. This song is focussed on the super hearing of Dolores. This is why everything is so highly pitched. And why the chatter is in the background. This overall, seeing the depths of the characters, it fits a lot. Especially considering many singers who worked on this also work on a lot of other songs!

The backing vocals are all the other characters’ parts layered on top of each other to allude to the fact that Dolores hears everything all at once. It’s meant to feel chaotic, and hard to understand. Also for the guy you said was peaking with his mic I’ve listened to his covers I believe that is simply his natural voice.
@KhailSOLO
@KhailSOLO 2 года назад
Nah. She was thinking about the over saturation in the vocals. It’s apparently a trend with mixing and producing music these days. I have one like it in FL Studios called Soundgoodizer. I personally don’t like it, but I definitely appreciate the appeal when it works. Especially if you hear it on a tinny mall speaker or on the radio. Like Carly Rae Jepsen songs. Ultimately, I don’t mind it here.

I think the back vocals are intended to sound like static since Dolores is feeling overloaded from all the voices coming in at once that it seems basically incoherent
@larmurph318

I usually agree with you on these types of videos, don't think I can here. Obnoxiously high or not I think that high note is integral to telling the story. This is post prophecy reveal, so Delores' gift is on the fritz, she had some level of control before, picking up on specific conversations. Now it's just a jumbled mess as she's suffering from intense sensory overload. The music is louder than the soloists for a reason, same as the repeated lines of the villagers, Delores can barely hear herself over the noise. She can pick up her family a lot better than herself but as she approached the end she stops whispering. These high notes are a voice breaking from pain and anxiety and then she settles into a belt which is basically yelling for her. I think this was very well suited for the story more than just a classic performance piece and despite some of the va issues, it could fit into the actual movie imo.

I'm glad I'm not the only one feeling this way! This song is song of the best musical story telling I've ever seen! My favorite aspect about the song is the fact that they added an insane amount of background noise that technically didn't need to be there to simulate the perpetual cacophony that Dolores would experience with her gift and emphasize the message of the song. The song starts out with those super loud trumpets that honestly startled me the first time I heard the song (perhaps a parallel to how Dolores would have felt when she first got her gift; relative quiet, and then suddenly, LOUD), and it only gets more and more sounds added from there with the people singing/talking in the background over Dolores's chorus, and you don't quite realize just how loud everything is/has gotten until it goes to Bruno's part and all the extra stuff get's cut out (for as awful as loosing the miracle was for the rest of the family, imagine the overwhelming relief Dolores would have felt when she could finally experience quiet again). I think the line "the roar of whispers in every crowd" is my favorite line of the song because that's basically Dolores's life. She's perpetually experiencing the kind of sensory overload you'd get by being surrounded by a crowd of people all talking at once, to say nothing of how horrible things must be for her when she's *actually* in a crowd. But this reactor didn't seem to care for the story of how the music could serve that story at all.

1:51 In this part, they're singing their lines in the song over and over again. Like: "So did you hear about the other day?" Its kinda hard to hear since its a lot of different people at once and the main voice is obviously louder, but if you try to PAY A LOT of attetion in ome background voice, you might hear it They did this to represent how it feels like to be on Dolores's shoes. Hearing a billion voices at once over, and over, and over again. Non stop.

I definitely understand what you’re saying. I think its also perfectly acceptable to critique the other singers too, since they are not professional and we are learning to sing here on your channel. Perhaps also keeping in mind that they are not professional, which you did. You were kind, yet honest in your approach. As far as how the maker made the song, in defense of that, the purpose is to highlight that this is what Dolores goes through all the time, so she has to keep it together throughout the song as the gossip from the town spreads and the family becomes more distressed from the ruined proposal to Isabella (which is what the song hints it takes place after). So, from a character perspective, it makes sense that Dolores (Adassa) would only hit the higher notes in the end when the whole town is talking about what happened. This is after all a song about Dolores keeping it together like how the rest of the movie was about the entire family putting on brave faces and acting perfect for Abuela. Belting it any earlier would have gone against Dolores’ character, which is to whisper because her own ears can’t handle the volume of her own voice and display that not everything is perfect for Abuela. That is what is the draw to the song. That it shows Dolores’ experience suffering in silence, which is what the song implies through its lyrics like, “I always listen, but never act” and “There are secrets I won’t tell.”

You’re focusing way too much on the vocals sounding ‘good’. Songs seek goals (usually making you feel a certain way) and the backing vocals throughout the song are clearly this overwhelming chatter and is specifically supposed to be sort of unsettling as to put us in Delores’ shoes, it’s very intentional. That high note is also supposed to be more emotional. I usually agree with you and I for sure do about the recording quality of some of the vocals but I think you’ve totally misconstrued this song.

I need to remember this is from a year ago and I can't get angry because you obviously didn't get the messages in the way of the writing- but I'm getting REALLY frustrated screaming the meaning of the writing at my tv- Delores is hearing EVERYTHING around her, her gift was superhearing, it's literally the main reason she talks so quiet usually because even her own voice at talking level hurts her ears. The layered jumbled mess of a chorus is repeating everyone's lines over and over again, showing how it would sound to poor Delores having having listen to everything and anything all at once. She gets so high Pitched because she is, as she literally states, "at her final straw." She's near breakdown because of all the overloading sounds and voices, and it's supposed to sound shakey, high, almost like she's about to cry, because she probably is. She's had it with her curse of a 'gift.'

What they were doing with the higher notes towards the end was trying to express how irritated and fed up she was and using those notes and increasing her volume to past just a whisper like it usually is shows that she’s just over it and starting to raise her voice but still kinda struggling. At least that’s what I got.

If you focus really hard you can actually hear Bruno’s lyrics in the chorus which is a literally just his verse. It’s everyone’s versus overlapping underneath Dolores is because she can hear everything. It’s amazing and it’s a perfect representation of her ability/curse/gift which is her hearing.
@asagothe_fander

Just a heads up zoning out the background vocals takes away from the experience of the song/immersion because it’s literally Dolores’s perspective/thoughts on the gift she got/her experience/what she’s living with. You’re tuning out a very important song element. I’m not a professional strong judge her but I feel like you’re being a bit too harsh on this song. Not a W in my books

@asagothe_fander Год назад
I’ll be as kind as I can’t be on this 10:34 You sweet summer child you missed the entire ballpark. This is literally about her freaking gift, the voices overlap constantly, because that’s what she’s hearing, they don’t have the resources to request for all the gosh darn voice actors to come on and record a fan song. They knew it it would probably get popular because OR3O has made really popular songs before and has a high subscriber count, this was professionally made and I don’t even know if she is a professional with writing songs, but her channel entirely consists of that so I would think she is professional. I swear you killed my love of singing and possibly voice at my characters more than my family killed my love of swinging by telling me I’m being too noisy by humming. My goodness gracious

It's a fan song, in the truest sense. A tonal and lyrical stampede past all barriers. An introduction to mistakes long forgotten by those who've been training for this moment all their lives. And that's before we touch the quality of the recording itself, or the skills of anyone in the cast. But that's why it's so magical that this happened. Despite all the flaws, there's something that went very right. Something that spoke to an actress and an animator, and millions of other people. I think why the reason why some people in the chat were so disappointed in this video, is because you're grading it like these fans were all people who should have known better. Or like it would just be cruel to give any of them constructive criticism. Did you really hear no potential? You failed to speak about anything except the obvious quality of a world class voice actress. Whom you've already taught us about. You just looked trapped. This sort of thing is why I don't sing. And why I'm skeptical of offers from coaches like you. For many medical reasons, I'm not capable of expressing things I used to be able to, instinctively. If you're only analyzing a performance like you're an engineer looking at the mechanics of a NASCAR race....then all I'm going to do is hurt your ears, while you struggle to figure out why anyone wanted me to relearn in the first place. Sorry, but this is the first video of yours I've given a thumb's down.

It's really annoying to see this, she clearly understands vocal coaching, and yet has absolutely no clue why some notes and sounds are used in songs on purpose... Also you're clearly going far higher than she did, the note sounded fine. It was used to reach a peak and then build down as she broke down, with a last sputter at the end (which was an arguably less powerful note but better sounding)

What I like about this song is it is a good view into her life, how she hears everything until she focuses in on stuff (my opinion) it is a constant background noise that can't become white noise because it is too direct in what it is. If you listen you can hear some of what they say, and I like their take on this but a cleaner set of vocals from other characters would have added just a bit to it, but for what it is I love this song. I think they reason they chose the final pitch was to show her distress, she is unable to control herself and is just needing to have a moment to think without anyone else's voice in her head.

I hate to analyze the analyzer but u have to keep the story of the song in mind when listening to it. This is from Dolores's perspective. She hears literally the entire town 24/7 so of course she's always going to have background chatter in her ears. Just like the background chatter in the chorus. And when she gets towards the end she finally hits her snapping point. Her "final straw" and drops her soft whispering voice and begins to yell herself. She has finally gone crazy from the constant noise. It really sucks the animatic quit cause it would've been so much easier to see instead of hear it happen to understand it

Don't want to give the people any fright Need to find Bruno just to make things right Unless we wanna fall by candle light [Chorus: adassa] Through doors and through the cracks I always listen but never act And though I wish that I could just turn it back The rumors speeding through a narrow track Everything is way too loud The roar of whispers in every crowd I'm sick of all the noise right now Oh, can someone please just turn it down? [Verse 3: adassa & OR3O] Candle won't you just keep burning bright The prophecy won't be our demise (turn it down) Clear blue skies, no rain just shine If we stick together, we'll be alright (oh) I can hear your fear I can make 'em disappear (turn it down) There are secrets I won't tell Not unless they break the spell [Verse 4: CG5] And you could hear it through the casa's halls A crack and scurry coming from the walls So can we answer to the future's call Or will we end up losing it all? [Verse 5: kathy-chan, cami-cat] Why couldn't she just shut her mouth tonight? She ruined everything just out of spite Oh no, my power's fading by the day The pressures sinking in I can't run away [Chorus: adassa] Through doors and through the cracks I always listen but never act And though I wish that I could just turn it back The rumors speeding through a narrow track Everything is way too loud The roar of whispers in every crowd I'm sick of all the noise right now Oh, can someone please just turn it down? [Bridge: upgraded moon, adassa] Feeling like I'm always just barely there Only a shadow and it's never fair The volume's growing Don't wanna know what's going on at all Not anymore! [Chorus: Chi-Chi] I'm at my final straw My powers hardly a blessing at all Heeding to everybody's call Is there a line that I can draw? Everything is way too loud The roar of whispers in every crowd I'm sick of all the noise right now Oh, can someone please just turn it down? [Outro: OR3O] Turn it down Oh Can someone please just turn it down? Oh Turn it down Can someone please just turn it down?

I think on Camilos part (CG5) She thought the quality was bad- but I’m pretty sure that’s just the way his voice is- it’s rough, pitched and exaggerating. I’m not saying it as a bad thing! I mean I love his songs and his voice! I kinda have the same exaggerating voice as him when I’m singing! Kinda- I’m not a voice coach so I’m not sure if I said it correctly- ❤️

Being on the Autism Spectrum, I have to say that as painful as this song is on my ears, I certainly appreciate the sentiment of the song and can fully relate to Dolores, as I too cannot completely tune out the background noises of the world the way most people can. Sometimes I fully miss what the person next to me in my own living room is saying because someone a block away started their lawnmower, or a plane flew by overhead, etc. It's part of the reason I've always had problems singing and I am only recently starting to learn how to work around some of those sensory issues. Kudos to them for making this and thank you so much to you for reacting to this and for all of the other Encanto videos you've done! 🙏💕

The background is to simulate the noise of a crowd you're not supposed to understand them, it's also supposed to be a loud and High pitched, the song is literally based on a character with super sonic hearing

She sung Higher for the song to make Narrative sense She's singing Louder to Signify That She can't even hear herself when she talks Normally...Please stop with the Unhelpful Critiques...The Notes Do Not Need to Be "Better" or Rewritten They're Perfect just the Way They Are...

Wow… this reaction was not what I expected. Kinda mean and rude for many reasons where you shouldn’t be. If you understood the movie and the character, the song would make a lot more sense and I don’t think some of the singing was as bad as you made it. Sorry. This is not it. Thanks.

I would've loved to here comments of the other singers like what you think they're doing and what you would've preferred them to do. Idk why you felt the need to review only Adassa's voice, but it is what it is.

You should do a reaction/critique to BYU Vocal Point’s recent cover of We Don’t Talk About Bruno. Its soo amazing and it does features Adassa(Dolores) too which makes it even more amazing!

This is a fan made song, meaning you cannot expect everyone to be a professional, and most of the content in the song would make 100% sense if you have watched the actual movie You were unnecessarily harsh here, sorry girlie

The hilarity that her reaction to the background noise was exactly the point. Dolores hears EVERYTHING ALL THE TIME, it's muddled and chaotic and everything is way too much. Which I've seen a lot of comments say. Or3o's direction for this and how she wrote FOR Adassa, and not TO her is an amazing accomplishment. It takes skill to mold a song around a singer's style and vocal tone instead of getting the singer to change their style and vocal tone for a song. Or3o worked with her after Adassa told her she was down to do the project and they didn't change the notes on the final segment so- it must be what they were going for. It sounds like she's in pain, which is the point of the song, not just frustration, but pain and anxiety and that crushing feeling of being able to hear everyone but no one listening to you, so they probably decided to keep it as is. I think the comments already address everything, but I'll say it again anyway. A falsetto takes away the emotion in the song. It's about her being overwhelmed by her blessing of super hearing. The "Not anymore" was essentially a scream of "this is enough". Making it soft and falsetto completely destroys the point. It's not supposed to be pretty, it's supposed to convey pain.

That part when Adassa sings a Higher pitch, it's because Dolores is getting stressed, and her voice Is trying to express her despair. I think it's Intentional.

They're all obnoxiously High it's because it's what Dolores hears not what everyone else hears she has hyper hearing remember that that's why they decided to make everyone with higher notes and that's why they decide to make Dolores have higher notes in the last part it's because she had enough and will not hesitate to raise her voice to get the people to stop talking I don't want to seem like I'm a know-it-all cuz I know I'm not a know-it-all I don't know everything but you don't seem like a very good vocal coach to be honest because you would have picked up on that right away a vocal coach would have picked up on that right away and let me tell you every other vocal coach on RU-vid picked up on that so I don't think I want to take your courses

The lack of symbolic meanings is shocking. Especially when reacting to other songs that were actually from the movie. From being in choir and being immersed into multiple fandoms. I can easily understand changes to a characters voice by looking into their characteristics and role as well as the entire plotline with theories to add some insight on things I missed. I am not going as harsh as I would due to this being the first reaction video I've watched on this channel.

“For the chorus I did something like the end of we dont talk about bruno where everyone is singing on top of her and sort of overwhelming her so she has to sing loud to hear herself!” that’s the explanation for the chatter according to the creator and they don’t sing at the same time some start later than others making it all gibberish there’s 10+ at the smallest singing there 😭 edit: and CG5 who sings for Camilo thats like his style and his fans like attack ppl 😭
