EXO’s concerts are divided up into sections (acoustic, edm/hype, cute, sexy, etc.) and are usually around 3 hours long. The purpose of the acoustic session is not only for them to take a rest from non-stop dancing, but also to prove that they don’t need a backing track to sound good and cohesive. Even during the other sections, where they’re dancing, they try and keep the backing track to a minimum, to the point where it’s only really for vocal effects that are included in the instrumental. Everything up until the part where they all got up was completely live, without any backing track (here’s a focus video, just so you can see everyone at the same time m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XjwYJIPvjeM.html ). Part of EXO’s training was actually singing while running on treadmills, which is why they sound so flawless live. One of the main vocalists, Baekhyun, revealed a while ago that, even 7 years after debuting, he still goes to vocal lessons 4 times a week, despite being an extremely accomplished singer. EXO, since their first concert, have continued to top their world record for fastest concert to sell out, with their most recent record being 0.2 seconds (1 million people were trying to buy tickets at the same time and crashed the website). In kpop, you’ll quickly find that not all members of a group can sing really well, which is honestly fine, they might be there because of rap or dance skills, although sometimes they really are there just to look pretty. EXO is an exception to this because all of the members can genuinely sing, which is very rare for an industry driven by visuals.

THEY sang it live they didnt recorded it everyone who went to exo concert knows it. They are literally so so stable even when dancing real hard there is a reason why everyone calls them Vocal KINGS

If you could see the program on another clip you would see that they are all lifting their mikes and there are no track vocals behind their voices. They just harmonize this well.

Anyway, when exo doing a live performance it's really live (they really sing it and not a recorded voice) and even though they dance they can sing really stable because they have been practicing for years before they debut They have been training to sing while running on a treadmill every day for years, and after their vocals are stable they can debut Maybe sometimes they use an auto tune but still that's a live singing not a recorded voice P's:just want to tell you this info 😁 And so sorry for my bad English 😅

EXO has one of the most power house in terms of vocals and talents. You should watch more about their live performances 👏🏻 too bad sm entertainment, their company is not good with promotion🙄

there was no backing track on the accoustic session BUT the production of the DVD version of this concert (the Exordium) has added "flair" to it (the MSG added by the audio engineer I think). even though the fans never think its necessary, i mean EXO are very stable in singing live. and if they made mistake or a little crack here and there, we acknowledge it as a very humane (and a proof that they are singing live) 😂

And the fact that this is live is so amazing. Not all kpop group can do this👌🏼 please react more to their live performances. You'll be blown away. You will see them running and jumping all over the stage but their vocals are still stable!!

I saw this reaction late. But I'm not surprised he thinks there are backing vocals. It's how they harmonize. When Chen and Lay harmonized at the radio station, it literally sounded like four people singing. They ended up shy and giggly after that but we were all like HOLY SHIT! @Sam Scott-Thorne: Session Singer & Vocal Coach EXO is the result of practicing as a mostly as a group for several years before being assigned to debut as EXO. Only the 2 leads: Baekhyun and Chen joined less than a year before the group debuted, the others trained while still in high school.

I totally understand your point about making it more raw. Its the reason I love their radio show performances, so pure and spontaneous. Sadly, they don't do it anymore.

There are about 2/3 Baritones in EXO but they’re mostly all rappers. Chanyeol is a rapper but he sings a lot too and he’s a baritone, maybe you could react to some of his covers eg his wind of change cover

There’re no back track in the first.the harmony is pure live vocals

You should react to some Day6! They're an actual Korean Rock-Pop band, that play instruments on stage. Their live performances from what I can tell are pretty raw unless it's on a music show (which most require their artists to have almost full synching and instrument synching). Their concerts are quite genuine though, which I saw firsthand live, and their voices are lovely too.

EXO vocal kings

The camera cuts in and out so much that you can't tell sometimes, but they do do quite a bit of the harmonizations live- some you can see better in their other acoustic sessions. The backing track is minimal here, but still present. The camerawork makes it difficult to tell what's actually going on, but I've noticed Xiumin or Chen's voice underneath the others, and Chen honestly is always pitch perfect, and I see him holding the mic up most of the time- but I can't be sure!

If you really want to hear their raw vocals, try to look for Knowing Brothers, a variety/comedy show where they give a sampler; Chen & Baekhyun singing Thorn, Chen singing Tears, Baekhyun singing Sweet Dream, Chanyeol & D.O. singing Billionaire.

Unfortunately, in this segment, the two baritones of the group don't really go into their lower registers in these songs. The members with the lower voices are one of the guitar players (the one that played first, Chanyeol) and one of the two dancers (the darker haired one, Sehun), one of the main singers, Chen (that was hitting the highest notes, he has a really huge range) can also go really low in his vocals. After those three Kai, the silver haired dancer, and D.O. the singer that sung first, are probably the next lowest voices, with the rest being higher tenors.

I'm checking out the comments section halfway through the video and I keep seeing people commenting that this is all live with no backing track and you having to reply that there's nothing wrong with having a backing track over their amazing vocals. And I agree. I love my boys; they have amazing voices and the acoustic section really showcases that. Having a backing track for some parts in no way detracts from that. I just wanted to drop by and say that. We can get a little protective over our boys. 😂 I do hope you check out more of their work. Thanks!

I really enjoyed this video. I think you hit the nail on the head. They are not trying to outshine each other because they are equal in their profession. Although in singing, they are members who have more singing and vocal range than the other, they just hid it very well. As for their voices, almost like 4 is sweet voices and 4 is somewhat different type of voice that I'm not expert at 😂

I'm just going to finish one of my work tasks that I set for today and then I'm gonna watch this video as my reward haha

Dude, you keep saying there’s back vocals/track behind but there’s none. Once instance you said ‘there’s the track again’, there’s literally 2 members holding the mic and harmonizing. If you listen and watch more of them, you’ll realize why EXO are called vocal kings.
