Love the reaction both of you had as soon as Amber started singing "Sweet Transvestite". This is one of my favorite covers that Amber Riley did on Glee. For me this is the highlight performance of the Rocky Horror Glee Show episode ."Time Warp" is a close second for me because that is a great group performance where multiple members of the Glee Club sing.

If I remember correctly the elevator got stuck with her in it for a few hours during a rehearsal. I am a huge fan of the original movie so I was a little concerned how they were going to do it in the show but I was pleasantly surprised. They all did a wonderful job and Kurt as Riff Raff was incredible.

Amber is great and this is an Amber song without a doubt. With rocky horror, the bar is the original songs. Its tough to imbue the essence of them due to what the movie is at the time it came out. Tim Curry's performance is what gives this song panache. Toxic Love from ferngully truly benefited from Tim Curry as well.

Tim Curry’s version is untouchable and I remember being so anxious when it was first announced Glee was doing Rocky. But Amber completely made it her own and was the only cover I’ve actually liked of this song. She kills it!

When I was in my mid twenties, my sister and I took our parents to see a stage show of the Rocky Horror Picture Show. Lucky we were in the seats in front of them because they were not impressed and were horrified because it was a graphic rendition. They must of let us watch it in the movie form because everyone, when we were teens, was singing 'Let's do the time warp again'. Let's just say we weren't allowed to pick what show we went to as a family after that. I think the next show we saw was the Buddy Holly stage show which was quite good with a bit of history added in.

But oddly, it worked for the two reasons they needed to do so. Network television still wouldn't allow those situations and words today without editing, let alone in 2010. It was even worse before _Glee._ Also, in-universe a public high school is attempting to perform RHPS. So the writers were, more than likely, commentating on how hard it would be to allow students to perform RHPS in real-life American public high schools. Its easy to see the parents and faculty protesting. A compromise could most likely be changing lyrics (and/or cutting scenes). "Transsexuals" to "Sensational Transylvania" are just the tip of the iceberg on lyric changes this episode made, though. But even then the outcome of the episode is probably what would happen, in that the higher-ups wouldn't allow it.

I disagree that the original movie cast weren't as talented of singers. They certainly carried a tune well and of course sang in their character's voice. And that is true in many a good musical. But yes, the Glee cast did a great job as well.

Sorry to disagree with you but the original from the movie was better. Maybe not from the singing aspect but from the performance of the rolls. None of the members of the cast from that movie were embarrassed with their performance in it. The Rocky Horror Picture Show is the longest running movie ever. Several of the cast including Tim Curry were members of the stage production from 1973 which did very well and toured Europe and the U.S. before being adapted for the screen in 1975.

The majority of the cast of the movie had already done Rocky Horror on London's West End - basically British Broadway. Tim Curry is a trained singer, as was most of the cast except Brad and Janet.

I have to say, Amber did one HE*L of a job performing this. Tim Curry sang this great back when he did it, but Amber made it her own and just KILLED this performance! The second she opened her mouth and started singing, my jaw dropped and I was hooked!

I'm sorry, but this is a bit of a travesty of non-representation, isn't it... Why have we gone backwards since the 70s? I'm not denying for a second that Amber is a great singer but I feel like this was very cis-washed with no purpous, which is not Amber's fault. Anyway, great reaction, as always.

well she's got a Voice....but nothing else....there was a LOT more to Frankenfurter than just a voice and sticking a black woman in there just because she's a black woman is silly in the extreme important to reremember, no matter how well trained, all these people doing these songs later are just copying the people who made it real the first time.

This is all show and theatrics with no depth whatsoever. The original version had HEAPS of emotion and VULNERABILITY and depth. This doesn’t portray any struggle whatsoever. I can still enjoy it but it’s really whitewashed and PC. Sad 😔
