The song is a masterpiece. Often people wonder why I listen to metal. People experience hellish things, and metal is the perfect medium to express negative emotions and srotey telling, and in the end it's very cathartic. This song embodies that, You can't do this in a pop song,

I have always loved this song. I saw them perform it live at the Grammy awards in 1988. It was one of the most powerful moments I’ve ever seen on live tv. They were clearly nervous at the start, but by the end they just went for it and got a standing ovation. I remember seeing tears in the audience and thinking “Wow, people are starting to get it, metal will finally the credit it deserves.” Then Jethro Tull won the metal Grammy.

This song fills me with survivors guilt ! I passed away on the operating table soon to be 9 years ago . Yet somehow , someway they got me back . I laid unresponsive for almost 10 minutes , then I remember opening my eyes . I couldn’t see to well do to double vision , and I remember hearing all of the surgical staff yelling oh my god we got Chris back. I can’t believe we got him , thank god , he is back ! Powerful piece and a great reaction/review. Life is ugly sometimes and it's the human in us that recognizes it and still move forward. Great job. I love your channel.

Thank you for leaving the heartfelt honest emotions in the reaction. I too felt those pains, for I have actually been through a multi-month damaged body and coma but was partially aware and dreaming but they assumed I was out. It's quite the harrowing experience indeed, and I'm really happy that people like you have empathy to understand what we went through. My friend died right next to me, and although we were both victims in the car accident, I still have survivor's guilt, but his neck was broken so thank God my neck was still intact, though many other parts weren't. Anyway, thank you again for the heartfelt reaction. It's nice to know that someone else opens up and feels for the worlds of both physical and emotional pain that such an excruciating situation can invoke. God bless you Kevin.

Completely classic song. Heavy, harrowing video. And commendable for leaving the raw emotions in.

Thank you for sharing your emotion. Nothing to be ashaned about. This is such a powerful song! I love "older" metal bands because their lyrics were so raw, powerfup, moving. They really made you think and feel.❤ Love the video, love the song choice.

Thank you for putting this video out. This is indeed how many of us felt growing up, and if we were lucky enough we get this perspective before our lives were thrown away. My brother and I, and many of our friends, joined the military straight out of school, and I can tell you most of us have a very different perspective on things after seeing that side of it.

I really appreciate your emotions. no matter your background or musical preference we all share the emotions. every person in this world will need to have a connection, we cannot let our emotions control our fate yet we cannot let our emotions be real. no fake, no happiness, no depression. our reality is who we are. what a beautiful video!!

The final chapter of this song musically reflects the frantic desperation he feels. Faced with an agonizing descent into madness, he scrambles for any glimmer of hope. To no avail.... Thank you for the heartfelt reaction. You remind me of the good in people, and that is nice.

I know this song is hard sometimes but thank you for sharing your reaction. Being real to you makes you stronger. As a high school and college music nerd that had a career calling somewhere else, I love listening to your reactions from the standpoint of a vocal coach, and that includes your reactions to the emotions in the song. Keep up the good work and never be embarrassed to let the music or accompanying media move you. It is doing what it's supposed to do.

This song is a hard song on many people. You nailed it on the head. This song strikes many cords in areas that many either have not or do not wish to face. From personal mortality to loss of loved ones. It is hard to deal with. This song brings those feelings front and center, and it is hard to deal with for a reason. Part of what makes this song great due to that. I appreciate you leaving in the emotional reaction. This helps others to see it is not just them that this song hits like that. It oddly helps to ease and make the feeling easier to understand when shared in such a fashion. Thank you, and I hope you see that it is appreciated.

The song and video are based on the 1971 Movie starring Jason Robards as the soldier's dad. The move is an adaptation of Dalton Tumbo's "Johnny Got His Gun" (1938). Trumbo wrote the adaptation and directed the movie. I got my hands on a copy back in 88/89 when this video came out. Read it in like 6 hours. Amazing book. Dark, for sure; but well worth the read. It's on Amazon for like $8.99. Great reaction. Thank you for not editing out the emotional bits. Authenticity is appreciated.

a truly amazing song - never fails to breakthrough my masks - your reaction is true to yourself and to the myriad angles of human nature that this song evokes and imprints on each listener - God bless dear Ken! Anyone not afraid to examines one's own mortality has already oriented in the right direction to overcome fear of death - however the song and the music video, as you rightly pointed out, takes us to the in-between zone, the fear of physical pain and the fear of knowing I'm half-alive and half-dead
