Jodi's version gives me cute and curious. She wants to be a part of that world. Halle's version gives me desperation and frustration. She needs to be a part of that world! I love both versions, Halle did this song so much justice! Amazing!!!
Saw the movie twice and this scene still gets me! She added so much depth and characterization to this song you can’t help, but love it and be in awe. She BODIED the role of Ariel! 🧜🏾♀️
When am I gonna be able to listen to her sing this song without crying like a baby??? 🥹🥲 Beautifully done with so much longing, passion, and conviction! Thanks to Halle, it's officially my favorite Disney movie song ❤️👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
@@stephaniewhitaker3566 tbf, if you know Audrey well you get used to her misremembering names :D at least in this vid she remembers the right name for Flounder
Seeing it in THEATERS is really an entire experience I saw it twice, you might as well support the movie and see it at the box office since your reacting to clips of the movie anyway.
I watched once but i really dont see why not to see now in theathers and then react again. It will take months to get to the streaming. I mean you know you wanna Watch the film, cmon and watch the film ,oh no shes gonna miss the film 😢.. 🦀
@@vincentjohnflorio Me too. And then a week after for a third viewing. It is THAT fun to watch in the theaters. And I enjoyed and recognized different things each time. My only regret is I missed the 3D viewing.
I understand why you’re holding off to watch this movie but I really think you should give yourself the theater experience for this one. It’s a great movie.
The film can use all the support it can get. Halle is fantastic as Ariel and the movie is the best live action film Disney has produced. I wish you would go see it in theaters. I don't buy dolls or merchandise usually and I have bought multiple dolls (and will be buying more all will be kept in boxes as collectables), books, and Carol's Daughter conditioner sets just to show Disney thanks and love.
You're missing out if you don't go watch this in theaters. It's absolutely *gorgeous* and makes you feel like you're by the ocean with the characters. The music with that lovely theater surround sound is stellar as well.
It’s so hard to pick just one moment as my favorite, but I guess the one that I always come back to when I hear the song is when she taps the picture of the fire in the book while she sings, “What’s a fire and why does it…what’s the word…burn!” Just that visible frustration of trying to remember a word that’s on the tip of your tongue, ugh, so good! But I do also always do the eyes closed swaying at the “I wanna see, wanna see them dancing.”
Brooooo u readd my mind. That part felt like such a genuine frustration, the urge to just leave everything and just swim above, the urge to finally grow and know. I love Halle man.
That final crescendo is my favorite part. I stop breathing almost every time, because she’s so good! But I also love “what’s a fire and why does it - what’s the word - burn”, because her acting is just flawless. Halle is perfect throughout.
Audrey you should keep an eye out on the DisneyMusicVEVO youtube channel, because in the last few days they have kept releasing the videos for every song in the new "The Little Mermaid"!! They have a few to be released yet but I think in the following month all of them will be already out, at the pace they are posting them!😊😁🤞🙌
No one ever is happy when it comes to talking animals in these live actions lol what do y’all want?? If they look too cartoony, it’s not a true live action… but if they make them look more realistic, everyone is freaked out 😂😂🤷🏼♂️
realistic live action animal is honestly ugly and holds no magic of wonder. If I wanted to see realistic fish then I'd visit an aquarium or watch a documentary on animals not a fantasy movie were things can be unrealistic and exaggerated for expression.
@@tikiingrahm2428 but it’s “live action” lol by definition things should be more realistic 🤷🏼♂️ so then they should redefine the movie and make them basically a modern animated version? lol
Seriously. Can't please anyone anymore. I thought this movie did a good job with the animal characters. At the very least, it's an improvement from The Lion King.
It is such a different experience to see it in theaters, the volume, the surround sound really give you goosebumps at so many moments. I think you should see it in cinema, the money is so well spend!
You should definitely see it in theaters. Its absolutely amazing. I've seen it 3 times and gonna see it a 4th time. Each time I see it, i find something new. Its worth it to see it in theaters and then again with your patrons.
The one thing I love about this 2023 version compared to the old version is as if she's not singing, she's asking (in a song form) for a chance to be happy for her 😭👏🏼. And it's like that throughout the entire movie on every single song! ✊🏼❤
The rock part with the reprise was such a phenomenal belt -- and I do mean phenomenon -- that I thought it was gonna rip a hole in the theater screen. People were shaking their heads watching it like they had stank-faces on. She has exceptional talent.
Looking forward to you seeing the scene for For The First Time to see if you change your opinion of the song. It was another highlight in the movie for me like Part of Your World and Poor Unfortunate Souls.
@@theshadestartsnow9818are they going in order? I want to rewatch the second reprise, aka the scene that made Halle cry when she first watched it! It really evokes the Hans Christian Andersen fairytale for me!
Like with most everyone else, I saw that riff first in the trailer. I wasn’t mad at it like some were, but I wasn’t as impressed either; i was just neutral BUT when I saw it in the cinema and went through the emotions of that whole song, I felt like crying at that riff it was so beautiful. Perfect!
I actually got emotional watching the film. I was such a fan of the animated movie and this brought back those feelings + Halle's singing was so emotional. Loved!
in my opinion, SO much better than the original (the whole movie is tho). As a kid, the little mermaid was my favorite disney movie and i admit i was kinda not on board on the whole "Halle as Ariel" thing but that went away as soon as I heard her sing. Same with Flounder, Sebastian and Scuttle. Yea its weird that they used real looking fish/animals but 5 minutes into the movie it didnt even bother me anymore. So love this version of the movie and i honestly cant wait to watch it again with you!
It really is better than the original, I knew when they cast Halle it would be perfection bc having been a fan of hers and knowing her vocals, her aura, she always felt like a princess. Idk ppl automatically think when it’s a black person bc they’re black lol black ppl aren’t just handed roles unlike a lot of yt actors so idk why yall were trippin. Should have done research before even forming opinion., but I guess at least u gave it a shot.
@@bigblue4579 I'm honest, it was of a black actress getting casted. As I said, TLM was my absolute favorite movie as a kid and we live in a time where it can get annoying that they constanly recast other skin colored people for characters, instead of creating a powerful, great black character themselves. And I was just so being used to Ariel being white. But yea as I said, the second I heard Halle sing, and seeing videos of little kids being happy to see them being represented (dont know if thats the right word lol) on big screen, I was completely on board. After all, its not my job to judge something that is made for little kids anyway. But I gotta say I'm thankful for changing my mind and watching the movie, Halle did such an amazing job in this role!
@@sashav.3189 tbf I never heard of her before but yea, she's crazy talented and totally embodied the role. And listen, it was just me being used to a different looking Ariel. Cant blame me, as I said I grew up constanly watching that movie
@@mrpatmichele I think that's one reason why characters are getting race swapped. "I can't imagine them not being white", "that's how I grew up". When non white characters get played by white actors, the frustration is definitely made but not as debated as this. When people say there should be characters created for black roles, asian roles, Latino roles, etc--while it would be amazing to get new stories, it also let's people stay comfortable in their own boxes. Like saying, "you stay over there". There are times when these things do feel forced or gimmicky. But as the audience we need to be patient and wait for the final results and hope the choices made are not just a money grab. I'm glad Disney made a good casting choice with Halle and I'm also glad people are seeing she's a good fit for the role. Ariel was also my favorite princess when I was a kid, and as a Chicana seeing a poc as a princess, I definitely saw doors opening. Kida is forgotten, Pocahontas is a historical figure, Esmeralda is not a princess, which only leaves Jasmin.
She tried to hold her tears. Cuz, yeah. Fish doesnt cry. And at the movie Ariel doesnt shed tears until her dad says goodbye (ending when she totally become human)
Been loving your breakdown and coverage of the little mermaid !!!!! The animated classic was my FAV MOVIE as a kid and trust, the live action was a dream come true for me ♥️ been loving your content and look forward to more !
I've seen the movie 5 times already. You're gonna love it and yes the audio fits with every scene, even that Scuttlebutt song lol I'll subscribe to your Patreon so I can watch it with you.
Also why didn't they do the Iconic shot of her slowly sinking back into the grotto with the backlighting and gentle flow of her tail and hair. ''Twas a missed opportunity.
@@EveofPyrite yeah that's why I said it was a missed opportunity to not put the shot in where she slowly sinks back down to the grotto floor. She almost tried to go to the surface and was blocked by the walls around her and drifted back down to the ocean floor. Bathed in the suns light. Couldn't get more metaphoric than that. Again a missed opportunity. Respectively.
Not only that, the shot of her hand reminded me of the horror genre, so it takes me out when I see it lol if they had the camera focus on her face and exit the cove/cave, leaving her hand exit the hole while still focused on her, it would have showed how she's trapped she is in her world
The hand part kind of freaks me out, but in a good way? What I mean is that it makes me think of movies and shows (particularly Pretty Little Liars) where a character’s been buried alive and their hand just bursts out of the ground when they’re fighting to break free.
I thought it was a weird angle...it made me think of a horror/zombie scene lol then it did help when everyone started to poke fun of the cliff scene. Wish they had instead had it pan out of the cove she was in and see her face blocked by the tiny opening. Sort of like the original, but it would have been cool to see her be minimized physically with the camera play.
@@psychedelicyeti6053 I was wondering why it bothered me and OP's description of it being like she's buried alive and bursting free (like in Kill Bill: Volume 2 or the ending of Addams Family Values) is exactly it! I also don't like it and think including her face, maybe with a shadow cast over it, would've been more effective. *edit* Or like the original when she sinks all the way back down to the ocean floor and Flounder's frown deepens since he notices how much she yearns for human interaction. [Why did this Flounder barely interact?]
I love that you pointed out how it feels like at moments we're looking down at her while she's looking up because that's exactly how it ends. We see the climax of her reaching out of that hole, but in the next scene, with her still reaching, she's firmly sat down at the bottom of her little cavern as if she had been sitting there the whole time. It's like the whole time she was imagining everything except for every time we were peering down at her and her staring longingly up at us. Really neat. Your vocal reactions were cool too.
I’m so glad you finally got to see the music video because you were killing me with these reviews girl!!! 😭😂 but I’m excited for you to experience the live action Ariel and see why all the numbers are different and how powerful they are with the message the movie brings ❤ It’s a needed full experience.
I just had the opportunity to see this movie in theaters yesterday and I smiled throughout the entire movie. I grew up on the original, but I felt like a kid again. Halle WAS AMAZING. She IS a Disney princess. She IS the Little Mermaid and it was truly incredible.
Okay... after watching this.. my 1 take away is @ 1:29 ...how did that "Thing-a-ma-bob" (Pocket watch) have THAT MUCH WEIGHT AND GRAVITY under water?! xD It should have floated down. 🤣🤦♂
I always enjoy your reactions to The Little Mermaid songs. Yoy said don't like dark water so i recommended you to react Under The Sea clip. The scene is full of colour.
