ABOUT…
I am Rebecca and I am one heck of a passionate vocal coach/singer/songwriter/impressionist/health/fitness/self- improvement/anything that makes me smile!! I love anything vocal/singing related and geek out on it every day. I want to motivate and inspire others to follow their dreams…corny? Well maybe but it’s true. So what’s motivating me?? I had a huge tumour removed summer 2017 and my ovaries and fallopian tubes. The tumour was the size of a 20 week baby!! However, despite not being able to walk for a couple of weeks, and feeling generally awful…. It has made me create and do what I love! It wasn’t an easy time but I won’t let fear dictate my life. I didn’t think ‘why me’, there are plenty of horrific issues people have to deal with…it’s not always smooth sailing. It’s true when you hear, ‘Life is short’, the crazy thing is, I am glad it happened…I appreciate life even more and practice gratitude everyday…It’s so easy to get caught up with the little things…and I do sometimes, but look at the bigger picture, will it matter in a year or two…?
Also thank you for all your support. It means a lot.
Subscribe to Rebecca Vocal Athlete to get inspired by new videos!
Have a great day!!
Rebecca

Becca, Bobby revealed in interviews that he always sang a song "the best that he could". A very sweet - but manly - guy he was always working at his songs indeed (as the very fine voice coach astutely discerns). His performances betray no evident physical stress (especially when he was younger & in optimal health) because of the extraordinary gift of voice that he was given by Almighty God. His musical gift was so much a part of his life that he was NOT aware of how extraordinary his singing was to the world audience that admired him. Proof of this statement is that he admitted he NEVER thought of himself as a legend: It was Bill that he most humbly looked up to as the music legend! (As you can imagine, this public confession visibly startled Bill Medley - it also gave him the courage to continue to use the name "Righteous Brothers" for the act even when Bobby was not performing with him.). Bobby was a simple, hardworking and very kind hearted guy - very characteristic of men of the post WWII, pre-feminist Christian era in the USA. He loved to sing and had a most extraordinary talent for doing so: all these facets blended together making his soul-filled performances so memorable then - and unmatched to this day.🌹

I’m a 67 year old guy and i recall vividly the first time I heard this song when I was a young teenager. It blew my mind then, and it continues to give me goosebumps to this day. He was pure vocal talent on a scale not seen in pop music today. No auto tune, no pyrotechnics, no dancers, nothing except a microphone. Unbelievable.

My husband and I were separated by the military forces 12 months. Toward the last half of his tour in South Korea we each separately discovered this very song back in he 1960’s through written letters. No Face Time back then. We have been married 54 years and we’re in our very early 20’s. When my husband finally returned home, met our 6 month old daughter he had never seen when the evening approached and we had put the baby to bed we had a romantic evening getting to know one another again after a 12 month separation and we did it by listening to Bobby Hatfield sing our song and we danced the night away. It was beautifully romantic evening thanks to this great classic song, which was a fairly new hit back then. You hear older folks refer back to the good old days. Well, those were the good old days for sure with playing the vinyls on the stereo over and over. ❤️💕😍🥰. Two young lovers. Now we are two old lovers 💕 and still manage to dance to that every often.

I was born in the 50's grew up in the 60's and 70's, I suppose our generation was spoiled with GREAT music. When you grow up listening to Elvis, Tom Jones, The Temptations, The Supremes, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Janis Joplin, Stevie Wonder, The Jackson Five, Aretha Franklin, The Guess Who, The Who, The Bee Gees, Marvin Gaye, The Eagles, The Carpenters, Frankie Valli, The Grass Roots and Bobby Hatfield and Bill Medley (The Righteous Brothers) along with scores of other AWESOME artists, we were so very fortunate to have grew up during that era and to be blessed with all that incredible music. I've listened to this a hundred times and I still get goose bumps. I am 75 years old and did take some voice lessons in college but could never get anywhere near this level. You mentioned how beautiful the song is. It was written for a 1950s B&W prison movie called "Unchained." The story is about a prisoner who misses his wife very much and wants to be with her. He has an opportunity to escape when he has only a short time left to serve of his sentence but decides not to run but serve out his time. He knew that if he ran he could only spend a brief moment with his love and then have to keep running. A great moral lesson and a great love story, sacrifice a brief moment of pleasure today for a lifetime of love..I guess that is old fashioned.

Hi Rebecca. I'm 76 years old and I remember this song very very well. Driving through the country on a beautiful early Sunday morning and the car radio turned up loud. He sang it live on TV, so no studio tom foolery, and in 1965 so no auto tune. He was worried and nervous because his parents were in the live audience and also because he had a slight cold. You can imagine the reactions to that wonderful silky voice and masterful execution. You only have to see Ghost to get the idea. It was said with some humour at the time that the main sound heard after the song was the sound of women undressing.

My wife was and I were great fans of the Righteous Brothers. When we became empty nesters we committed to being a coupe again and part of that plan was to see as many of the old time Rock N Roll groups as possible. The Bros were our first live group and the absolute best. Bobby was in his early 60,s then and you could tell the audience was anticipating him hitting the note in Unchained Melody. He took his time and wound himself up when the time came. He got a standing ovation during the song because everybody knew it was not easy for him to do it. We went on to see them 7 more times before he passed. Also, he was very comedic on stage with Bill Medley. Two old pros delivering a great time each time.

I think what makes this performance so emotionally pervasive is that Bobby Hatfield gives the impression of potential energy under control...He has us waiting for the impending eruption throughout the performance and unleashes all that pent-up energy at the climactic ending. IMO- One of the most important points is that he uses the more extreme vocal expressions to punctuate the lyrical message. He fills the hall with a woeful cry of anguish with "I NEED your love!" for a most powerful emotional moment. This is very different from singers who launch into all kinds of vocal fireworks just to show they can do it. It is not over-done, it is not a display of skill. It is true mastery of what music is supposed to be and of what music is supposed to do; convey emotions in a way no other form of communication can. The chills and goosebumps are evidence of this. Yes, you will still experience them again and again every time you hear this performance. It is that good!
