Look up most Indian singers. It’s actually a cultural thing to do those intricate note changes! Like runs! It’s sick, totally awesome! I have a friend who is Indian and does stuff like that with no effort, because she grew up listening to stuff like that! But HE, HE IS AMAZING!!!

This is the beauty of Indian music. Once you start listening to it you will never stop. And Arijit is one of the versatile singer along with Shreya Ghoshal. You should react to Sunidhi Chauhan too. She collaborated with Enrique Iglesias few years back. This video is the compilation of some of his hit songs. You might have noticed transition changes in the songs.

Westerners who don't understand the language and the dialects of India are really missing out. There's such a lot of variety in his pronunciations too. There's a huge difference in the diction between urban and rural India even if it the same language. He nails those nuances also. He adapts his voice to the country-ness of a song if it demands that. He's amazing.

In my experience, the difference between Indian and contemporary Western singing specifically is that Indian singing tends to be fuelled by emotion, and you'll notice that in the performances. Western singing can sound generated/constructed sometimes and often lacks (genuine) emotion, while the opposite is true for Indian music. This is coming from someone who lives in and primarily listens to Western music
