Avril sings with her heart and emotion. Ariana sings with her excellent technique. They are both great in their own way, but I prefer Avril because she sounds more real and pure to me.

Sam Zhang i can agree diction never been strong side of Ari even on her Broadway days. Anyways it's more stylistic choice. If you watch her performance with Barbra or last " You don't own me" cover it's better than on her hit songs. I think in terms of technique Ariana's a bit better. Avril has better diction, but overral Ariana wins. According this video it's very close battle.
I think I prefer Avril just because I like her sound more. Avril does have a great range too, but to me it’s more about what you do with the range you have than simply how big your range is.
Ari is good, very very good, its unfair for avril vocally but avril music more honest, her music its come from her heart, thats make me love avril more, love avril since 2002

The rest is pop generic and trying but failing to succeed at going toward different genres. Avril has done pop, pop rock, punk rock, rock, power ballads, pop ballads, jazz, r&b, soul, country, country-rock, rock ballad, country-pop, etc,. And all of her songs are gorgeous and honest and she brings that emotional factor that Ariana fails at delivering. Also the fact that, sure Ariana may have died in Manchester, but Avril spent a full year in bed, waiting for her death day to come, wondering if she would ever be able to put her head above water, begging God to give her a chance, she barely had enough strength to pick up the pen and write her music.

Yea Ariana has generic pop songs but there's way more emotional from the heart songs than the songs that you have listened, Manchester bombing isn't the only thing ariana has gone through, you need to do that deeper research on ariana like you did on avril, but I love them both tho but only person that had me cry during their song is ariana, Avril I just scream my heart out.

Avril's technique is better. she resonates sound higher in the face and doesn't use her throat to sing like Ariana. She also widens her mouth to let out bigger sound. She also can access head voice. Something Ariana cannot do. Ariana uses falsetto instead.

In fact avril genre's were Pop, country, pop rock, pop punk, punk rock, heavy metal, soul, jazz, edm,electro pop, rock, christian rock, alternative rock, post grunge, power ballads, country pop ...Arianna can't relate though... a true artists discover new genre's with not following todays trends but I do love Arianna as a singer too coz her voice was good the problem is that she didn't put a heart when singing.

These are the best clips I've ever heard from Avril! I'm shocked! I do think Ariana is a better vocalist and has better technique but Avril reminds me of my childhood and has a lot of heart in her singing. Very haunting voice at times.

I don’t think one is better than the other. They have such different styles and techniques. Avril enunciates sooo much more and thats always more appealing to myself. Ariana has amazing range but I just prefer the rawness of Avril.
I absolutely love Avril and I've been waiting for more videos with her but this battle is not gonna be fair, to be honest xD I'm sure Ariana's gonna win but for me Avril's the winner. I love her music, her personality and the fact that she writes her own lyrics, music and plays instruments. I've been a fan for almost 12 years. I think she's way too underrated, where I feel that Ariana is overrated. I respect her, of course, and I think she's talended, just her music doesn't speak to me anymore.

Both are really good singers, but I prefer Avril Lavigne for numerous reasons. She sings with her heart and soul. I can really feel what she says through every note she sings, and that really captures my attention. It doesn’t matter if it’s a pop or a rock song. Technically, Avril uses more her mid and high registers and has a unique style of singing, which I find more interesting than just showing off what you can do with your voice. Of course this is only my appreciation. Don’t get me wrong. Both are really good singers in their own styles.

Avril bring me more emotions than that version of Ariana (2013-2017)... I prefer her music all the way if we ignore TUN. Ariana's vocals may be superior (4 octaves and her signature is high belting) but Avril can do whatever she wants with her voice changing the style of her songs without sounding like a different person or losing the emotions. 2 different persons w not even the same style. Not really a fair competition, but it was ok. It showcased the 2 girls talent.
I really want Ariana to win. She literally has 4 Ocatves in her range so i think that can out due Avril even though she has stunning clear mid belts and a great tone. Ari wins with riffs whistles falsetto notes resonance clarity and the list goes on IMO

5:43 those transitions from chest voice to head voice are really impressive, wow! As a singer myself, I can say from experience that those transitions are a lot more difficult than they seem.

I absolutely respect Ariana for her talent. There is no way to say something against her abilities! When it comes to my personal taste I would always go with Avril Lavigne. I mean.. I grew up with her music. I love her voice, it touches me differently. On every song she sings there is true emotion and you get that emotion and that is what pulls the strings for me.
I don't know why, I tend to skip Arianna song and keep playing Avril's song whenever I'm alone... Avril's voice and music speak to me emotionally. Avril all the way.
Ariana's a great singer, don't get me wrong but her music doesn't speak to me the way Avril's does. Pop punk is what Avril really believed in since the beginning and she's emoted beautifully through it. It's not about technicality always, it's sometimes about the emotion and that's where I'll gravitate, more than trills and tricks because that's what singing is about. It's about escaping, believing and emoting.

It's one of those times when you hear a vocally deft singer but their voice doesn't speak to your soul or give you goosebumps but on the other hand there's this singer whose voice is slightly less powerful than the other artist but she can make you fall in love with her. My personal preference is Avril.
Not a lot of people talk about it but Ariana has a lot of technical support for live performances. Avril really came up in a time when you need to be able to please crowd with nothing but like a guitar and voice.
Ariana can hit high notes better than Avril but for me, when it comes to genre, song lyrics and the emotion it's Avril. I can literally feel goosebumps when listening to her songs, esp those emo ones. Both are good but I still chose Avril. - LBS

IMO, Avril is better vocally as her pronunciation is way better and she could sing wider genres of music, back to back, without losing any breath, even on live shows/concert. Ariana has very good, bigger vocals than Avril but that's about it.
It’s hard to compare those two because of the different singing styles. Arianna likes to show off and use her voice to full potential while Avril likes to sing for fun and be more chill about how and what she sings. Arianna is like that one theater kid and Avril is the one who can sing who is always in the back of the choir, if you know what I mean by those references.
