Ah unfortunately there were many problems with this performance. From in-ears not working properly to the backing track being messed up - this is probably one of the worst ones you could have reacted to😅 I don’t blame you though, but it would be nice if you went through the comments to look for recommendations. For Jungkook, the best thing to react to are his livestreams. It’s raw vocals in real time - nothing more real than that. Also, I would like to see you react to the whole group before moving on, since them doing solo stuff is something new, and the group, BTS, is what they are known for. I suggest the BTS Tiny Desk performance and BTS Room Live which is a good medley of their B-tracks from their different albums throughout the years. Jk in this performance was really in his worst case and didn't feel well .. He did amazing... But as you are new for jk so he has more like my time performance and his golden performance

I dont blame you but you have to know this performance is after 1 day JK got tooth wisdom out. So he in so much pain.

Also, please keep in mind this was in 2018, 6 years ago, and I think when you listen to Jungkook's more recent performances you can hear how much he has continued to develop his voice - strength of voice, no longer relying so much on cry at end of phrase. (Sorry for the double comment post 🙃)

hmm why this video? it’s quite old and doesn’t really reflect jungkook’s skills. jungkook had JUST gotten his wisdom teeth removed and he was having major trouble with his in-ears - he couldn’t hear himself at all. bts had the same issues later that night when they performed as a group. jungkook still killed it for the situation but still, there are certainly better videos. curious how you found and chose this one?

Constructive criticism is always welcome and I'm not defending him just because I'm a fan but, as the comments say, JK really wasn't at his best. There were a lot of technical problems and he was ill so he held back his lane a lot. You should choose the recommendations from the comments!

Charlie Puth : " Jungkook is a prodigy." I can't count the number of times Charlie puth praised Jungkook's vocals ! This performance doesn't reflect JK's abilities at all . JK really is an incredible vocalist . And I don't say that because I'm a fan . I've never seen someone drag Jungkook's vocals. Even his haters know better .

honestly this is so long ago, according to JK himself, his singing really improved to another level after BTS's 2020 hit single, dynamite, he said that's when he really breakthrough and adapted an autotune-like tone to his voice, hope you reacted to his 2023 updated compilation by Ida S 💜💜💜💜💜💜

I think both of them had issues esp during 'we don't talk anymore'. He was constantly adjusting his in ears. He is never that frequently out of pitch, even without any added effects. Even with dry atmosphere or even with a karaoke mic, he sings well.

I love all JK's lives , but I really think you picked the worst one 😂 He was not feeling well , and there was a problem with the in-ears . I think you should react to his perfomance on the masked singer , he covers "if you" a song by big bang . Its great ! Or you could react to his livestreams , just raw vocals . Its awesome . Somewhere I remember reading that Jungkook had just had his wisdom teeth extracted the day before this performance and was not completely up to par (swelling and pain), but did not want to pass up the opportunity to sing with one of his idols, Charlie Puth.

There is a HUGE age difference and experience here. I remember the first time I heard this, I felt JK was nervous and he didn’t sound as good as he normally does. There is so much of Jung Kook singing live into basically his phone. JK was really young here and I think was probably very nervous getting this opportunity to sing with such a famous western artist. So you know for this Performance: 1. jk had just had his wisdom teeth taken out. 2. the korean award show messed up the in-ears at the award show. lots of artists had issues.

Mmmmhh... I'not trying to be ungrateful or anything but I really don't think this is a good performance to react to vocal wise. The sound is all messed up especially during "see you again", jimin was sick and in general I feel like it doesn't showcase their potential as a group. Moreover you've talked about wanting to see jungkook go off and i believe his english covers/songs aren't the best option for that, as many people have said before me his livestreams are a good way to hear him sing in various styles, from ballads, to trot or even rap. There are many I could reccomend but I really think you would enjoy hearing him sing "emergency room" live. That being said I'll still watch the video and I'm happy that you want to get to know them better 😊

By modern pop standards, this wasn't a bad performance at all. They're both good singers and the arrangements were pretty. However, there are many reasons why this wasn't "amazing". The setup was weird. If I remember correctly, the lineup was Charlie, then Charlie and JK's duet and then all the rest of the BTS members coming on stage to perform Fake Love (a BTS song). I'm not sure how long before they organised the whole set, and got the opportunity to rehearse together and do a soundcheck. Nonetheless, some clear technical issues were going on that day, as the other person pointed out when they said the mix on JK's voice was a lot drier, and as you can see from the fact that he was removing and putting back in his in-ear throughout the whole performance. Not to mention that JK just had his wisdom tooth/teeth removed. His face was still a little swollen, so he probably had the intervention just a few days before this performance. So not only was he either in pain or/and under painkillers, but also his mouth conformation was compromised, which does balance your sound off and distracts you from performing your best, especially if you have technical issues too. He's also very honest and transparent about the fact that he's constantly working on his skills and still improving. He said it himself that he noticed a big leap of improvement in his singing around mid-2020, after Dynamite was released. So 2 years after this performance (2018) and 3 years before he released his first solo project Golden (2023), which in my opinion showcased another step up in his singing agility, experimentation and confidence.

There are so many way better LIVE performance of Jungkook out there, not sure why you would pick this one over many other ones lol...

This is actually one of the worst performances they could've show you. There were a lot of problems with sound engineering, you can see JK taking his in-ear monitor out at the beginning, because he couldn't hear himself properly and to top it off Jungkook just got his wisdom tooth removed so he was swollen and in pain. You should watch BTS' performance of "Your eyes tell" co-written by Jungkook himself or their performance of "Film Out", their cover of "I'll be missing you" on BBC live longue was also amazing.

Well, this was the reason I became a fan of Jungkook. I watched this because of Charlie but became a fan of Jungkook after this performance.

Jungkook was 19\20 during this performance, he’s improved since then. ✌️💜

Even Charlie said that Jungkook was a music low-key prodigy and Jungkook was one of few singers who had a perfect pitch. So, better to find a live performance of Jungkook to react. It was the first collab live performance of Jungkook with western singer which he had to manage with the language and pronounciation as well.

I agree with your opinion that these are 2 individuals with a vast difference in vocal style and ability. But you should also consider that this performance was in 2018. CP has been a pro ~10 yrs vs JK who was only in his 5th year from debut as BTS. Being only 20 y/o at that time he was able to hold his own vs a more seasoned performer despite singing in a language foreign to him. Please give credit where it is due.

The funny thing is that for me JK did better compared to Charlie in this performance 😂🤭 This makes me think that music is truly subjective... But I agree with most of the comments, here JK was very young and a little ill, now his voice is a tiny different, even more precise I would say. dis performance was 2018. This is the 1st time that JK has performed live with a U.S singer and an English song. Expect that JK's performance is not perfect here because his experience in western music or English song is not that wide yet. He is also not fluent in English, even until now JK still says that he still has a lot to learn in western music. But now JK is recognized by Rolling Stone as the greatest singer of all time and one of the singers with perfect pitch, even Charlie Puth now recognizes him too. I'm sure even though JK's performance here is not perfect, CP is happy because JK did a good job with them.

In my opinion and respectfully, it would be more interesting to have a bigger screen for the performance you're watching and a smaller one for you and the background of your studio...

I got into BTS with this performance, so it has a very special place in my heart. But I do know its not the best. Also, I think I watched an interview of Charlie a while back and he said he wrote this song for one of his friends who passed away so this happened to, sadly, fit with the movie at that time (correct me if I'm wrong). I hope this reactions keep on coming, and if one day you want to react to someone else, I'd like to recommend DK and Seungkwan from Seventeen and Chen and Baekhyun from Exo. So many amazing singers in kpop but they're definitely my favorite ❤

So I'm a bit defensive with the initial reaction about him here - there were reasons but they are not excuses why this specific performance wasn't his best. Yeah so I did not finish watching this reaction.

I had a couple comments. First about the mixing differences between JK and Charlie: sadly, it was not uncommon, back in 2018, for BTS to have mix problems, or mic problems, or in-ear problems, or staging problems during award shows that didn't seem to plague other groups. About the exhale: I think some of this is because when English words are spoken with a Korean pronunciation, a single syllable word like 'fake' becomes two (fay-kuh). What is a very slight exhale after the k in English is much more pronounced in Korean. Add to this that JK spoke very, very little English at the time. He's had 5 years of practice to improve his English singing techniques since then.

He's also a virtuoso level jazz pianist. People tend to focus on the perfect pitch and forget that.

there was no autotune used in these performances, theres a bts (behind the scenes) of charlie and jk practicing their duet beforehand and it sounds the same (only difference is that they werent really trying as hard to sing as in the actual performance itself but you can tell they arent using autotune)

There was a lot of chaos behind the scenes. JK was in pain, and there were many technical issues. I suggest picking one of the suggestions made by the army in the comment section for your next jungkook's vocal reaction. Also, I ask you to please stop comparing everything he does with Western artists. He has his own style and skills, and he's worked hard to get where he is. If you want to do your job right here, please stop comparing his every move with a Western singer.

it's not the best performance to realize the incredible voice that jungkook has but don't exaggerate. It's not terrible to listen to, he sings well. especially with earphone problems, not mastering the English language (remember that he is a South Korean singer) and it is not his song.

You should listen to the vocal line of BTS in a ballad, when they don't dance. House of Cards, Film out, Louder than Bombs, Yet to Come... And solo songs with V and Jimin.

Charlie and JK recording is from 2018, when JK was 21 years old and had little solo singing experience. Charlie is 6 years old than JK, so he has a lot more experience, so it`s hard to compare them.

Unfortunately this was probably not the best example, it was proven later that audio equipment had been tampered with. JK was only 21 at the time and it was a tough one for him and the rest of BTS as it got worse when they joined the stage. BTS went through a lot of underhand treatment from some of the bigger entertainment agencies eg: tampering with equipment, false reports, hate and death threats and that was there own country. So although I agree with you that it was not the best performance, I'm not sure how much was technical and/or ability. Like anybody who carries on training (he never stops) he has improved considerably as all of BTS members have despite the dirty tricks played on them from the beginning.

i remember this performance...the staff from the show did them dirty...it was different from when the rehearsal and the actual live performance

I would love to hear your thoughts on BTS as a group, as the singers have distinctly different tones. My recommendations are their FESTA Room Live, or their Tiny Desk Concert, or their performance of "Film Out" (where Jungkook does that drop at the end of some of his lines).

I suggest watching Jungkook performing some songs from his solo album Golden in New York TSX Times Square a few months ago.

It’s one of a very rare performances when JK is in his lowest point. 1. He had his wisdom tooth removed a day or two ago before this stage 2. His in-ear had not been working during the performance so he had to adjust based on a stage sound 3. And I think they played a wrong version of the song We’re all humans after all and could not be always at our top. Still even not at his best JK sounds amazing compared to a lot of other singers. But I’m honestly surprised by the choice of the song for the reaction. He makes a really good job in 99.999999% of performances. Why have you picked this one?

This is not JK's most interesting performance, not even by a stretch. This is also quiet old and he has improved leaps and bounds as a vocalist because he is incredibly committed to bettering himself every day and never grew complacent with his start status. You should check the Audicy live which is recent and that has songs from his own Album he chose because they fit him and allow him to showcase his talent :)

She is bias as she does not like k-pop. She has criticized Jungkook in every reaction him. Charlie Puth and Chris Martin praise for being the best singer they have worked with. Also, she was nervous as a teenager with that huge commitment of singing life with a pop start who is one of his influences and idol. To conclude, you should review other songs like “Hate You” and his covers of “If You” and “Falling”.
