Vocal Coach Reacts to Greta Van Fleet Broken Bells 

One thing you didn't mention and it's what first attracted me to GVF when they were on SNL. Josh is an incredibly good looking guy - but he's not afraid to make the weirdest faces to get his vocals out! He opens his mouth, curls or flattens his tongue, etc, to get the tones and inflections out perfectly. He has an amazing vocal coach and has come a long way in the last couple of years! Great reaction - but I wish you had played the part where Josh comes in (wearing different clothes) at the very end! I think you would have loved it! 🥰

It helps to have the lyrics in front of you when listening, it makes the song even more beautiful when you know what he's singing. I am obsessed with this band.

I agree 100 precent on Josh's vocal evolution. I appreciate their first two albums for what they were, but this album is where they truly evolved unto their own and I definitely appreciate it on a higher, more appreciative level.

The last several years Josh has been working with an amazing vocal coach out of Nashville. Ron Browning? I believe that’s his name.

Some people say that they can't understand what Josh sings - I do - I think people have to just adjust to his vocal and it really is pretty clear. He has indeed great breath control - watch the clip of Light My Love - while he is posturing his body he is opening his diaphragm. Also want to thank you for saying who they are NOT copying. They are all talented musicians in their own right - and Danny - is a fabulous drummer who just gets better and better - so much so he won 2021 drummer of the year.

GVF does not have to copy other bands...they have enough of their own great writing skills and talent. They are not trying to sound like anyone else, they don't need too. People must realize that the natural genetic makeup of Josh's voice just happens to be like Plant's. It is something to be cherrished, not condemed. It's not Josh's fault, and it's great! I heard GVF doing a Bowie song once, It sounde like Josh, not Josh trying to sound like Bowie.

The JP like riff actually reminded me much more of Ian Anderson's style. Bottom line: GvF is a wonderful product of a lot of 60s-70s approaches to rock. As an 80's child who didn't particularly like the music of that era and played the previous decades music on my hifi, it's great to hear at least some people creating in those styles, by far my favorite in modern music.

I love your observation ! I think on the song heat above you really see the Freddy mercury and Robert plant had a baby vibe hahah. I haven’t listened to much of rush so I can’t compare. I’d say objectively a better singer than plant but not as good as Freddy mercury. In saying that I prefer gvf to queen but that’s a personal preference and maybe because I’m the same age as these guys 🤷‍♀️
