@@bagdii like Jen and Taxos pointed out - for Sennek 2018 and Hooverphonic 2021. Both times he didnt make it onto the stage but he was in the backvocals... and he was Vocalcoach aswell in 2021.
Lyrics may not be the strongest .. however , the song is a bop , he sings this 10/10 .. and the back up women gives it the extra sparkle .. this can go so far !! .. He sells this song so good
It's been stuck in my head all week 🫶🏻 I am a proud Belgian🇧🇪🖤💛❤️ happy feeling, catchy, good vocals and lovely personality. Thank you for your positive comment.
I am so happy you like it! There has been a lot going on during and after the national selection final. We had some very good, (typical) Eurovision competitive songs but Belgium chose this catchy BOP instead. A lot of people were confused and mad because this was a total surprise for Eurovision fans. Give this man some love and appreciation because he had/still has to deal with a lot of hate on social media...I'd dare to say he can surprise internationally as well at the big Eurovision stage, the same way for instance Moldova did by just having a huge party in the arena.
I would be surprised if it even qualifies . Cherine was the best, but hosting the event costs alot of money and Belgium doesn't want to risk it. They are already 5 billion in debt 😮
Nice to see a vocal coach reacting to another vocal coach - which is Gustav’s ‘day job’. Re. the lyrics: you have to take into account that simple, straightforward lyrics are more likely to be understood by a wider audience with English as their second, third or even fourth language. Gustaph has confirmed that the staging is still a work in progress and the act itself is something he’d like to improve and further finetune in the coming months. So fingers crossed he will indeed get to move around a bit and interact with the audience… if that happens, Liverpool may be in for a fun party.
You know Georgina, most people in Europe aren't English native speakers and simple lyrics works better for us. The advantage of this song is that after one listen it sticks in your head the entire day. Lyrics don't always have to be complicated.
This song has really grown on me. The vocals are really strong, and the whole song is just so fun and charming, with strong 90s nostalgia for me. The lyrics I can see easily be song along to at a club, especially gay clubs. I feel like this has potential to become a song that lives on for a long while in especially queer clubs. Even though it’s not a genre I normally listen to, the song keeps popping up in my head, makes me in a good mood and make me wanna dance and sing
I love this! ❤A catchy bop that is both positive and uplifting. Plus Gustav has a really great voice. ❤ The voting showed this was loved by both the jury and the public. Good luck Belgium!
Because Of You is a positive battle song about accepting yourself and being who you are. The 'you' represents your self-chosen family, which supports and strengthens you in life. That can be your family, but also your best friend or your partner. In short: all the people who have made you who you are in life.
❤ this Song ... Brings back that happy retro House Vibe with great vocals and that hook is fantastic. Its a Feel Good Song we all need at this time of such doom amd gloom. My other Favorites, are Spain, France, and Norway
I think it's a good pick for Eurovision personally. The song is very positive, upbeat, fun, and has relatable lyrics that are very easy to sing along with! People are going to remember the fun time they had with Because Of You, and give points 🥰 It's not a winner, sure, but 100% belongs on that stage.
I don't mind lyrics, they're simple and a bit cheesy, but all in all the song is fabulous and vocals both Gustaph's and backing singers' are fantastic. Probably not a winner, but I do hope it'll go to the final. Apparently this year only we, the viewers, are choosing whose coming out of the semi-finals, so fingers crossed.
Due to LGBT+ exposion. I do not like it myself at all. Song, voice, performance really good, and joyful. Without all this LGBT shit, it could be marvelous. Pity.
I love the song, I felt it was an instant bop and wanted to make me get up and move about! It’s definitely the best out of the three out so far! I don’t think it’ll win but I really hope it gets to the final because we need some feel-good songs! It gives off Boy George and a mixture of 80/90s for me which is the music I love and I hope the rest of Europe loves it too!
I've been following Belgium with interest for some time now, it always manages to surprise on the positive side, to remember Blanche - City Lights in 2017, and now... I'm no expert, nor am I looking for a special meaning for the lyrics, let's face it, we would have to be all polyglots, listen to the rhythm, and this one, has everything to work out, I've heard most of the countries and this is without a doubt my favorite one. Congratulations Gustav! It could be from this Belgium! a kiss from portugal
Loving your ESC reactions as always. This is my fav song of the 3 that have been released so far. Can't wait for you to check out Ireland (my country) 🇮🇪❤️
It was the best song proposal from Belgium. He sang as well with Hercules and the Love Affair. Very kind and funny guy with a good flow and positive vibes :)
Georgina- What a classic jumping groovy comment you brought here to this Ecs Belgian entry. you are so right about everything . I guess you can easily join the backing vocals of this one . 12 points to yet another precise inteligent reaction of yours .Keep on rocking Girl!!!, Regards from Tel Aviv, Israel
I love the song and think it'll bring a load of energy in May. I also hope Gustaph moves a bit more in the final performance to get that party vibe going.
Gustaph is also a vocal coach! Love this bop and it gives me RuPaul's Drag Race vibes! I , too, hope he keeps his back-up singers ( live of course) in Liverpool.
Hey! I've absolutely loved all your commentaries on the ESC23 songs I've watched so far, and I was so happy to see that you enjoyed Belgium, because it's not a favourite lol. But I love it!! It case you were wondering, this is a late 80s/early 90s ballroom scene style song and the dancers are voguing. I hope it qualifies!!!!
Loved to see your reaction not knowing the other national final contestants!! really feel like people don't take the time to judge his song seperately and immediately rate it bad because they had others faves in the Belgian Eurosong. Think this is a fun song that def has its place in the final, not really a big contender tho in my opinion, but doesn't deserve the hate its getting
I think, the lyrics are the thing that people want to remember as an after thought. They are not important, the Feeel is important. The lyrics just remind you because they are som-how/what stuck in your head.
I think this song has potential, because it's definitely a lot better than some of their previous entries, but it's a bit basic. Looking forward to seeing it in the competition though :)
I'm glad you like it, I've seen a lot of people hating on it bc their favourite didn't win the national final(get over it, it's not the end of the world), but this performance was amazing watching it live. I don't think he will place very high (I would love it if he did) but it's definitly going to be a party at eurovision when he preforms. btw, I hated this song first, but now I can't get enough of it. I hope people will learn to like it as well. My fav was Chérine, but Gustaph just really brought it all and he definetly deserves it.
I really do like Belgium 🇧🇪 my country this year and it really give me wanting to dance and singing with him! I didn’t know him before, but he’s just amazing! And in the final he changed his outfit too and he moved also more! Just love this song 🎶 and I’m happy that he ended in the Top 10! Really deserved! 🙏🏻🍀👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🤩🎶🇧🇪✌🏻💥🔥💥
Gustaph is not a bad choice at all, he actually had the best vocals in the national final in my opinion. But they really should have picked Gala Dragot which was the standout of the night and had a chance to do wonders in the contest.
Hellou, this is Pekka from Finland. I´m so really going to vote for Belgium this year. I love House music and this song is so ready to be played in clubs, I just love this song. This is not a traditional Eurovision song, this so much more!!!!
I.M was really arrogant and so full of himself and the song was about him. This song isn't, it's something that speaks to everyone. Also Gustaph is far more loveable and has better vocals.
Reminds me a bit of some mid 90s stuff too - M people and D-Ream? I think with some good staging he might get through - I’m not a fan of the grief he seems to be getting. I hope he has a cracking time in Liverpool! ❤
It's got a great vibe, he's a great vocalist, it's got to qualify hasn't it? I liked your Lisa Stansfield reference, I knew the groove was reminding me of someone from the eighties. I read that he has been a backing vocalist for much of his career, and as such, wanted to highlight the girls behind him, so that's why they come to join him at one point. I just hope he avoids Norway's and Finland's semi-final to ensure a safer passage to the final, because whoever they select between them are definitely qualifying.
Always happy to hear your opinion. Because you are looking into "voice, vocal technique, musical inspiration", ... but more than that. I completely agree with you. It is a bop that needs some spicing up for the act (and he said he will be, even though this is the blueprint). Though this is the first time Belgium had acts of great quality, they surely have the time to make them perfect for bigger audience! As to the song: I agree the lyrics are kind of "bwa". He definitely was not my favourite, but apparently he is a hit with the older generation (who are nostalgic to the 80s-90s). He really wanted to make a statement on live vocals and putting a spotlight on the backing vocals, considering he was twice backing vocal at Eurovision (hidden backstage) : Sennek & Hooverphonic. I hope for some extra voguing to get the party started (why not and 2 drag queen dancers). I really want Gustaph to stay himself (if moving around or dancing is not his thing, please don't make him do it). I prefer perfect vocals over attempt to combine. And as to the outfit : this is a creation of Belgian Fashion artist Walter Van Beirendonck !
Go Belgium 🖤💛❤ 🏳🌈
I agree with every word of your judgment Georgina 👌 I just heard the options for Germany here and I am in tears nearly... and def not happy ones... 😭😔🙈
You are so right about the feel of this track - though I wish you hadn't said Lisa Stansfield as I can now only hear her singing this (and she'd perform the outro vamp so much better!!). At this stage he gets me vote. Both Lisa and Rochdale will forever be winners - - best JtF
I get what you're saying about the lyrics but I don't think that many people really care about the lyrics. As a Belgian I'm happy you're positive about the song as he has received a lot of negative comments since he won.
This has got a superb 90's beat & production which I completely live for, but his vocals are very reminiscent of Boy George, and I also get the same vibe from his outfit. Not a popular opinion, but Belgium are in my top 5 this year. Its not pretentious, its not desperately trying to be groundbreaking, it's in its own lane and I respect Belgium for seeing something a little retro.
I think the song is great. With this kind of song I'm only looking for lyrics that are half decent with an excellent catchy chorus that you can sing and dance along too. Left hand side, possibly top 10 if this grows on the community more which I think it will as ae get closer to the competition
You are right, a bit lyric challenged. Who cares, it nails the fun. My question to the aether. Which act will benefit the most from 2023 eurovision. I vote for Voyager (AUS). They will be welcome at any euro summer festival for years to come.
How I love your Eurovision videos, and I wholeheartedly take your point about the lyrics. Although with all due respect you are overlooking the fact that they won't matter whatsoever, to the viewers in the thirty-three competing countries for whom English is not their first language...! X
Can I message you directly? I am portuguese and I TOTALLY UNDERSTAND the lyric! Some parts are difficult to translate, for sure (different languages, different expressions...) But if you answer me here, I will know that you read this, and I can explain. This song is amazing, for so many reasons! (I am also musicion, harpist, and this is my favorite portiguese eurovision song ever!) Lol. But yes, it's fun, sexy, intense (and not Spanish!), and about the incredible rollercoaster of love...! 😂😅Oh, and congratulations for your work, I "love" watching your comments!!
The lyrics may not be super complex, but the ones that are there are meaningful. I'm a sucker for overly complex meanings and lyrics but something about the simplicity and what he says is just so feel good. I think the main issue with the lyrics is this sort of thing can feel inauthentic but I think it comes across really well in this song. Gustaph is singing it as a love song to the LGBTQ community and it really has that authentic feel for me.
It's actually a 90s vibe rather than an 80s one I think, very much reminds me of early 90s garage house. However the staging of this is poor - that audience is not excited at all. Won't pass the semi finals unless that improves significantly, which would be a shame cos it's a real bop!
I personally would have liked Chérine to win (her vocals and staging brought her down a bit), but I'm glad Gustaph won! Yeah he shouted out his backing vocals immediately after the performance too! Apparently they're really good friends, part of his "adopted family" that this song is about. There was a jury of 4 there (including Alexander Ryback, which surprised me!) who gave feedback, I think one of them mentioned that he could move around more as well Great observations as always!
