Presley Ryan plays a teenager who is sad because her mom died. Sophia plays a goth, who’s mother died. They have the same script but are so different. Sophia plays off the movie, and goes with that. Presley plays a teenager (which she is) who is sad and alone. Both are good, but one is rough while one is more soft.
Yess and dana plays a girl who is odd and also grief has matured her a little and it feels confusing (i was not found of dana util i listened her "home " and then her portrait of the character became oh so clear, i love her emotion there)
Mia JONES oh... well I’ve never seen the show and I agreed with comments because of wardrobe (that I’ve seen in pictures), and the way they portray the characters... so idk

You're right. And I do not want to compare so im not saying who's better bc neitger of them are better than the other. But for me Sophia's performance is more like Lydia's been hurting for a much longer time. The sadness has become a lifestyle and a part of her being. But we dont even know how much time is inbetween the funeral and the rest of the show so its saying nothing.
I hate it when people say Presley is not a good Lydia just because she can’t do the scream things. She takes a different, sadder approach to Lydia. If she wasn’t a good choice, she wouldn’t have been chosen.
Absolutely, she just interprets the character differently! I get frustrated when people think actors and shows should be carbon copies of each other. Where's the art in that? I love to see different interpretations of the same character. You can obviously have preferences, but I don't get the people who hate on actors who just make different choices.
Caitlin The Noodle I honestly feel like Sophia is a Sadder version and Prez is a more wholesome version but I love her so much I met her at stage door and she’s the sweetest.
Presley Ryan makes me think that even I can be on broadway while also feeling like “wow we are the same age and she’s on broadway why aren’t I?” So it really do be conflicting.

Presley was in Fun Home as a kid. She was already a pro when they went looking for Sophia’s understudy. She also attends a performing arts school. Don’t compare yourself to someone who already committed their life to Broadway as a child.
She actually sings this song easily but she adds the growls and rasp which I personally love instead of the same sweet clear broadway voice you always hear
Sophia adds an edge and vocal fry, cries, and rasp which I really enjoy. This song would sound really easy for her if she sang more traditionally. You can hear her do this in “life on Mars” Lazarus if you would like.
Presley does have a naturally higher voice which makes sense as to why it’s easier for her. Sophia on the other hand has a lower tone so it is a little harder for her. Personally my voice is a little lower than Presley’s, (kinda like sophia’s) therefore I can’t belt dead mom in the original key. I’ve tried to belt the chorus in the alto key which was a little easier, but the other verses were too low for me🤷♀️
Please please please react to Jaime Lyn Beatty and/or Dylan Saunders from Starkid! I recommend “Harry/Sami”, “Join Us and Die”, and “If I Fail You”. Those are their best songs in my opinion!
Prezley has really grown on me as Lydia, the first time I heard this recording I’d been listening to the OBC album a LOT so I was very accustomed to hearing Sophia’s Lydia which, don’t get me wrong I still adore, but I really wasn’t feeling a much more high pitched Lydia. now it’s been a while since I’ve listened to the OBC and I like her sound a lot more than I did before.
I was lucky enough to see Beetlejuice on one of the last Tuesday nights before the shutdown and Presley was MAYBE the most talented actress on stage. So, so impressive!
I’ve commented this several times but please react to Carrie Hope Fletcher she is amazing and I think a great example of supported and clear belting and that you would love her
Hannah Bayles I think the pippa soo part is the cheeks. They’re very cute and round (like a Disney Princess) and Pippa has that as well. Plus you both have a beautiful singing voice so that adds some of it
Unlike Sophia, Presley has/had that more sad Lydia which you could kinda understand more. Don't get me wrong, I love both interpretations of the musical-Lydias, let's keep winona and dana out here for a little bit lmao. I absolutely love Presley, mostly because she is so young and manages to keep everything so good every show. And yes she didn't play the role full time and didn't have to sing those hard songs every night but still. I love her technique and I'm sure she would've been an amazibg full tim, more sad, lydia. I would love to hear your thoughts about dana, who played the girl scout and lydia. I think she is sooo good. Also philippa soo and jasmine cephad jones!!!

I love Presleys take on Lydia, she makes the role of Lydia have more of a innocent feel. I love Sophia's version to! They are both very talented, I just prefer Presley version of Lydia! No hate towards Sophia though! Love them Both

this show just recently re-opened and the new Lydia, played by Elizabeth Teeter, has a wonderful voice and sounds a lot healthier! I saw it live this last weekend :)

I think Presley is incredibly talented, has a healthy technique and should be proud of herself for making it this far at her age. That being said, I think that something about her performance while good is not my favorite thing. I don’t know why and don’t wanna seem hateful.

I feel like Sophia, while she’s a bit more comedic in her general performance of Lydia- was given an edge because she sang in an unhealthy way. She sounded good because she was pushing her voice to a dangerous area.

I love Presley’s Lydia. I find her so easy to empathise with. She’s just an odd young girl who lost the one person who actually understood her. Sophia’s Lydia was more standoffish and I found it hard to have much sympathy for her. Also I’m another vote for you doing a Carrie Hope Fletcher video!!

I love both Sophia and Presley as Lydia, however I really love Presley's take on Dead Mom as it sounds more natural (if that makes sense). It sounds more like Presley is actually having a conversation.

I saw the other day a video from the cast of Hamilton singing helpless at home for the Jimmy Fellon show. I really enjoyed it because of the cool editing and the fact that they just used tools they hat at home to recreate the song.

I really like her version tbh. I think she does just the right amount of screaming and singing. I also love Sophia’s version on the cast album. I think that it is okay to scream a bit on the song but sometimes I think it’s taken a bit too far. But hey, just an opinion.
I just love how she’s singing it how she wants to sing it, and not imitating the other girl who cane before her. She seems to have a really good idea of her vocal choices when playing this part and I really enjoy how she sings :)
