When depression becomes normal, being ok is terrifying. You know it's not going to last long, and you can't enjoy it because of that anxiety. "When and how will this end?" Yeah, it's rough.

I'm torn between "I'm scared of being okay, 'cause all things change," and the line "In the gallows, balanced on my toes so I can breathe." Both of those hit me like a sack of bricks.

Just wanted to say that, as someone who has struggled with severe anxiety and depression, the part where you pointed out that it’s really difficult “because it’s a fear of yourself” hit me as hard as the song did. I’ve never heard it simplified that way before and my god, that resonates. Thank you for that. Seriously.

At 51 I was just diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. I was told I've probably had it most of my adult life. I've struggled mentally for as long as I can remember. Depression, anxiety, cog fog, attention issues, blah blah. To now learn that most if not all of it could have just been chewed up wiring... who am I really? Who could I have been. It's got me really f-ed up. F-ed enough that I finally went into thrapy. Life really be life-ing on us sometimes! ❤

I don’t believe they understand how special they are together. Because so good on their own. But Ren might be one of the biggest savant musicians I have ever heard. There is no denying she brings something even more special out of him. She has a voice that is just unreal. It pushes him!! Love them both. But boy together it’s unreal Area 51 type good.
@rebeccaburnell9319
@rebeccaburnell9319 8 месяцев назад
One of the great truths in life is that Ren is *always* so much better than you remembered. Even when what you remember was that the last thing you heard from him was life-changing. "Scared of being OK, cause all things change" - for me, I'm scared of being OK because if I were ever to get better and then get worse again... this time, I know how bad it gets, and also, how many people you lose, and also, how much work (and how long it can take) to recover even just to the point I've fought for today (which is FAR from OK). And since I've been on Disability for 19.5 years, if I ever got better to the point of being "OK," I don't think I could ever fully *trust* that I wouldn't crash again. I got an extra layer of emotional watching you watch this just because I know you had that voice-focused conversation with Chinchilla and felt that vocalist kinship strongly with her. I can't imagine we'll ever see another reactor react to Chalk Outlines only *after* having an in-depth conversation like that with her. Unique.

These two are precious. Individuals who have dealt with debilitating issues and stood at death's door know they can become chalk outlines at any moment. A sense of normality or "being okay" are scary feelings. Powerful performance.
@saltydroog854
@saltydroog854 8 месяцев назад
I honestly had forgotten that you haven't yet done their duets. I think I had just assumed that you listened to them on your own and therefore weren't going to "react" to them. They were SOOOOO hot in the reaction community that it was hard to imagine you just not having gotten to them. That's not a judgement, just an observation. This song gets me every time. I myself have never been on psychotropics for depression or anxiety, etc. But someone very very near and dear to me was for many years. And whenever she would take them I could almost watch her disappear before my eyes, like a slow leak from an inflatable pool toy, and there would just be this empty person in her stead that kinda sorta resembled her. I've probably heard this song 200+ times, and still every time I hear Chinchilla chime in with the word "Sertaline" it absolutely destroys me. "The feeling goes, and you draw a chalk outline"...wheeeeww. Those words are like a baseball bat across the head. IDK what is going on with our society, where such a large number of us need to be on these life long subscriptions to mood altering drugs. IDK if it's the water, the air, or the fake food we eat...our lifestyles, or what. I don't want to say it's a scam for the pharmaceuticals to collect a tax from us, but I'd be lying if I said if didn't feel like it sometimes. Whatever it is we absolutely MUST get to the bottom of it. We are systematically homogenizing our young people right out of what makes them unique and special, and it's absolutely tragic. This is not to say that they are not appropriate for some people. or even most of the people that are on them. I am not qualified to say. But if so, the fact that we've made a world where this course of action is in any way appropriate for so many, is a damning indictment on our society as a whole. Please, please, please... I beg of you to do their live duet of "How to Be Me". Name your price...I'll donor it right now. Aside from the fact that I think Ren's message on mental health is a modern equivalent to Orwell's in the past, this particular performance is absolutely gorgeous. And I would imagine someone of your singing expertise would have a field day with it.

Actually the worst part is fearing being happy because of the cheques and balances mentality and that to experience even a moment of happiness means something terrible is going to happen, the shoe is going to drop and your life is going to go to pieces in ways that were worse than before the moment of happiness. Safer not to be happy, safer to sabotage potential happiness. Safer to pull the cover of the depression and the anxiety over you and live in that so that it doesn't get worse. I think the most fascinating aspect of this song is the eye contact and the chemistry between Chinchilla and Ren because that's the reality of what people who experience clinical depression and psychosis and things are always seeking and needing and finding a like minded soul who gets what you are experiencing and can share that with you is more powerful therapy than so many of the drugs that professionals try to push on us. This song is also about how the professionals want to provide drugs and downplay the potential side effects, downplay the fact that the drugs are a crapshoot. They are throwing mud at a wall and have no idea if it will actually help or not. That so often what they force on us leaves us dead inside, no creativity, no passion, nothing but the chalk outline of what we used to be before they turned us into zombies. The fear of happiness is called Cherophobia, from the Greek "chero" which means to rejoice in something.
