Oh well, just another one who turns off the video after the music stops, when the most important part of this artistic masterpiece starts. I recommend having a look at the lyrics. And too bad you did not realize that there was a voice in the background, that was not just noise, but had meaning. Ah, OK, windmill or not was oh so important.
@lossow1
@lossow1 4 года назад
One of the reasons I love your reactions is the emotion you show on your face and the obvious joy you have at the beauty of the music. And the 'flute' that Troy was playing at the start was a Tin (Irish) Whistle in Low D I believe. He seems to have a number of them in different keys. I always love tin whistles over recorders as they always seem more mellow and flute-like to me, even though they are less versatile with key changes! Also, it is a shame you missed the last 20% or so of the song as there are some beautiful melodies and thought provoking lyrics spoken by Prof. Dawkins (his own words and Darwin's) which are the culmination of everything Tuomas was working towards on this album.

Really appreciate the comment about opera tone not having to be only the strict rounded head voice shown here. Have in mind though that the particular way Floor approaches this part is actually important. The tone she uses shows a lot of vocal discernment if you take into context the actual lyrics and what this part is designed by Tuomas to represent. The juxtaposition between the pre-existing opus perfectum that is Gaia with us as imperfect entities still sleeping in it and waiting to evolve into existence is shown perfectly via the way the big operatic sound thins and then cuts into the whispering part (that's when you paused the video). A brighter tone would actually fail to convey here both the - introductory to this show of life - narrative aspect of the lyrics AND the intended contrast I wrote about above (as well as the move from minor to major, also intended here). Cheers..C:

I was about to write this (1 year late lol). There isn't a single reason for her to not sing exactly as it is... the first part is about coming to life, everything is still dark. Things get brighter exactly when Mr. Dawkins says "Isn't is a noble and enlightned way of spending our brief time in the sun, to work and understand the universe, and how we came to wake up in it?", and that's when the music explodes (big bang, someone?). I just watched a ton of Elvann reactions, and liked it in general, but her technical analysis (whichs is good) often makes her miss a lot of context.

Floor is the next stage in human evolution - have you seen the size of her neck - who knows what her daughter will be capable of when she is older? 😜 If you listen carefully, you can hear snippets of Toccata and Fugue by Bach, Enter Sandman by Metallica - and the keyboard from 22:30 - 23:00 is very reminiscent of the theme from John Carpenter's "Halloween".

To me it express the start of the universe, dark, simple but evolving - like she is doing through the song - evolving and using all kind of voice nerd gigs plus body/facial expressions. She is quite unique in this. You also really see it in The Poet and the Pendulum - and 7 days at the wolves - but she actually almost always do this kind of building up. I think Tarja is the better overall classical singer, but I adore Floor because she does everything well and can seamlessly flip between them, has borderline supernatural stamina, and is an unparalleled belter. She adds so much depth of emotion to their music - even their older stuff is in some cases transformed by it (Dead Boy's Poem, Ghost Love Score, Poet and the Pendulum, etc.). Tarja's renditions are still great, and I think there are a few songs where her more operatic sound works a bit better (She is My Sin, Phantom of the Opera obv.), but Floor is just the best. And she has a stage presence where you just can't help but love her. I've watched so many videos of people seeing Nightwish for the first time (usually Wacken 2013 GLS), and they're all in love with her by the end. Floor and Tarja are both forever imprinted on the history and discography of Nightwish, so I don't know why their fanclubs are so ridiculously zealous in flying to their rescue in YT comments. Tarja went on to her own successful solo career, and Nightwish fans were eventually blessed with Floor. We all win.

My honest opinion ...you just sang it the heavy Operatic way....like Tarja ...floor just didnt, did it lightly ..listen it back and i hear/ read it from you....though..further Great reaction Lady 🙏🏼

The fireworks at the beginning were not for amusement... they represent the Big Bang ! The origin and creation of the Universe !! This whole Epic Masterpiece is about Genesis, Creation of the Universe and evolution of all the species on Earth..!! Evolution of mankind, evolution of Nature even evolution of music 23:07 - 23:30 (from Bach to Metallica)..!!! "The Greatest show on Earth" is not other than the miracle we call "Earth", our planet itself and all the life on it !! 12:14 when Floor is standing still and recites instead of singing, is because she represents Goddess Gaia (Θεά Γαία in Greek) and is not Robotic monotone voice, it's more like Homer's rhapsody in fifteen-syllable measure !!! Before the end of the song the phrase "We were here" it doesn't mean we were here in the Tampere concert of Nightwish... but the time we lived/live on Earth and have witnessed "The Greatest Show" LIFE !!! Some research before reacting could be very helpful !! A musical masterpiece is not only music and good Floorgasmic singing...is also presentation of the story behind the music - lyrics and how to support them with vocals..!! Tuomas is a genious composer/poet and collaborating with amazing musicians and Floor, the result is just magical !! In my humble opinion and without trying to offend you, don't bother with superficial things as headbangings, hair windmills and high heels, because you are missing the real meaning of the whole thing. The end of the concert could've revealed to you, what this Masterpiece is all about...!!! Thank you !!

I try to give your reactions a shot, but every single one are songs you've already heard and know. I think your titles should be more like "Vocal coach analyzes [artist - song name]"

I think each song was composed for the singer of its era. The problem for Annette was that she was not really fitted for the Tarja Era. But Floor can do everything, so she got no problem to blend in. Plus she can make each song her own by giving it even more emotion.

They did indeed sync the fireworks. TankTheTech says there are two ways they could be done. One is on timers. The more reliable way, which he believes they used, is to have techs firing them off in response to audio cues (like a click track.) The "flute" is an Irish tin whistle, if I'm not mistaken. You ended too soon, though!! There was more to see (plus a heartwarming concert ending, if you go far enough.)
@Freeze014

Troy plays the tin whistle also called low whistle. And the pipes, were Uilleann pipes, an instrument for those with a masochistic trait. And it was the final song of the set list.

Funny you should comment about how big Floor's approach to the openning section is, because as of the 2018 Decades tour she now does it *even bigger* in the kind of operatic mixed voice she used in Phantom on Beste Zangers (and in the Decades tour on The Kinslayer and parts of Gethsemane), which I personally think sounds absolutely amazing but I'm a total sucker for female classical voice types using at least some chest resonance. Oh, and this song was the last one they performed in that show, which makes her energy level in this performance even more impressive.

Floor's windmilling alone? Remember she is a lot younger than most other band members. Head banging and windmilling probably discouraged by these old guys doctors. Floor does it because she is a performer and crowds love it. (And she is super human.)

The monotone part Floor is singing (?) is also bound to the theme at that point: gravity. So it comes from her mouth with… gravity. Where also the drums and bass go. There's so much composed to this, you really can't get them all at one listening. And it actually helps if you'd know the lyrics beforehand - then you have time to notice how they are woven together with the music, the story told in many layers at once.
