Check out The Travelling Wilburys here: www.travelingw...
The Traveling Wilburys were a British-American supergroup consisting of Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Jeff Lynne, Roy Orbison and Tom Petty. Following Orbison's death in December 1988, the Wilburys released a second album, which they titled Traveling Wilburys Vol. 3, in 1990.
"Handle with Care" is a song by the British-American supergroup the Traveling Wilburys. It was released in October 1988 as their debut single and as the opening track of their album Traveling Wilburys Vol. 1. The song was the first recording made by the group, although it was originally intended as a bonus track on a European single by George Harrison.
* "Nelson Wilbury" - George Harrison
* "Otis Wilbury" - Jeff Lynne
* "Lefty Wilbury" - Roy Orbison
* "Charlie T. Wilbury, Jr." - Tom Petty
* "Lucky Wilbury" - Bob Dylan
“Handle with Care" was the Wilburys' most successful single.

Actually George got everybody together because he needed a song to be on the B-side of his latest single. But when people at the record company heard the song they said it's to good to simply be a flipside, it should be it's own hit single. So they decided to do a whole album together. Fortunately for us, the fans, they did.

The conception of the band goes back further than that. In 1986 George hired Jeff to produce his album, Cloud 9, and the two legends immediately became best friends, what with Jeff actually moving into George and Olivia's house. While producing Cloud 9 George proposed to Jeff that they start their own band. Jeff said great, who would you like to be in it with us? George named Bob Dylan, and asked Jeff who he'd want in it. Jeff replied, Roy Orbison. Then they agreed that Tom Petty should join, too.

You got that right it’s sad Roy died, just when he was making a comeback too just think of what they could have produced only 2 of them left now Bob and Jeff, there is one other singer who could have fitted in with them and that would have been Gerry Rafferty sadly he’s gone too.

Three friends George, Jeff and Roy were having dinner. George's own words, Jeff offered to help with the B side, Roy asked if he could tag along, they had to stop by Tom's to pick up a guitar, when they got to Tom's and Tom heard what they were doing, Bob has a studio in his house. The rest is history.

Thanks, Beth! this was, in IMHO, the best "super-group" evah! this song features George & Roy, but there are quite a few others... each of these superstars were incredibly generous in sharing the spotlight... I hope you listen to more of them! appreciate your reaction on this one...(p.s. Jeff Lynne - such a key member, who never got enough credit for his vocals.. in addition to his songwriting!) - Finally, it's so clear how much they enjoyed each other... (oh, wait.. and drummer Jim Keltner!.. who was offered a credit and declined.. he was integral to their sound!)

Its raw, or organic, because these guys did this entirely on their own. No corporate stooges, execs, etc. All on their own, purely raw, organic and out of the utmost love, admiration and respect for each other and all they brought to the world of music, and of course, just how much joy & fun the got from each other and the experience as a whole. Its also a direct product of their era, the time when music was ENTIRELY about and based on the genuine talent and abilities of musicians, and not any importance or focus was ever on "performance/showmanship", looks, extra stuff like lighting and stage props, or even how they dressed. None of that stuff mattered back then. But by 1980, the massive shift into showmanship, looks, outfits, etc being emphasize over talent and ability went into full force. By 1990, we wound up almost entirely based on that instead of the stuff that matters, which is again, talent, ability and passion. And that's how we got to where we are now, where everything is quite literally, "Overproduced, Commercialized", as is said in the song at hand. That's why its so rare for so many of us to find any music and musicians we truly like/love and enjoy now. That said, there often is one or two songs from bands or musicians in the modern era that stand out from the rest, and become long-standing favorites. Speaking of such... I recommend doing a reaction and vocal analysis of Seal - A Kiss From a Rose. I think it'd also be kind of interesting to hear a vocal coach/expert do a analysis of Akon's vocals. From say, Lonely, to start, to Hold My Hand, which he did with Michael Jackson shortly before MJ passed.

Great reaction video, as always! Love how you ended the reaction because I agree wholeheartedly. If you want to listen to Roy Orbison by himself, may I recommend "Running Scared" for a future reaction video? I think it really shows the breadth of his singing ability. I know it's from the era of Doo Wop (and the early days of Rock and Roll), but his voice sounds almost operatic in the song, especially at the end.

I think these guys together represent what you and other voice coach reactors emphasize: don't try to sound perfect or like someone else. Find your own voice. When their albums came out I had no problem knowing which one was singing from the first words. Just imagine how boing it would have been if they all sounded alike. Today's music, with auto tune etc.... I find it very hard to find singers who don't seem to sound anything other than an over produced product. But when I do I love it.

Regarding regions: Orbison was a small-town Texan, so his natural speaking voice was closed-mouth, like the characters in King of the Hill; he learned to sing that way to hit high notes. Petty was from Gainesville FL, a Southern drawl which comes out in his music. Bob Dylan was Minnesotan but his singing voice is mostly an affect. Lynn and Harrison were of course English, not sure how their regional accents impacted their singing voices.

I love that George NEVER lost so many of his Liverpudlian pronunciations. "Care" is "kuhr", just like how he says "I don't kuhr" in his one big scene in Hard Days Night. And 'been' is pronounced 'bean'. And yes his voice was distinctive and effective. I think it took him a while to find his true range. It basically started around the time he began writing and singing his own songs rather than singing Lennon/McCartney compositions, and his vocal ability came into its own with Abbey Road and his solo career.

Geiorge asked jeff ot help him with a track for an album, One of them neeeded to get their guitar left at tom's, they needed a studio, bob had one so they called him. finally they decied to get together for the short period their calendars matched and write an album full of songs in that week or so. Of course as Tom Petty says, "When you have the best voice ever, and the best songwriter ever, I just felt lucky to be there.? George recorded the song with some friends in his home studio and wanted to put it out as a single. They talked them into doing more songs and it became the album. Their 2nd album Ray had passed and they were all so busy it really never came together but has some good songs. At that time Tom Petty was doing long tours in stadiums and really just did not have the time to contribute much. Bob's songs Tweeter and the Money Man is by far the best song on the 2nd album that was not really a TW's song.
