The drummer’s name is Tomoya (Tomo). He is awesome and has his own RU-vid channel, Tomoya Studio which you should check out. Toru is the guitarist and Ryota is the bass player. You know Taka. Renegades has been out for a few months. It was co-written with Ed Sheeran and you can find making of videos on RU-vid. It is from the soundtrack of a Japanese martial arts film series called Rurouni Kenshin
This song was created for the movie Rurouni Kenshin: The Final( which by the way is an awesome movie) they released this last April 2021 co created by Ed Sheeran and Masato (Coldrain) and other collaborators as well, it was also produced by Rob Cavallo known for producing with Linkin Park, Green Day and other notable artists. And I agree with you guys about Toru, some fans criticize him for not being a flashy guitar player but he gets the job done, I think he was so good in Worst in me, his guitar solo was lit, they sound so good live and that’s what’s important, and their charisma live is just out of this world. Taka is such an awesome frontman, he always gives a 110% on all of their performances.
I saw them a few days ago on their current tour and I have to say, Toru can definitely be flashy when the moment calls for it! There were a couple times during the show when Taka stepped out and it was just the rest of the band jamming and Toru can play some CRAZY guitar
Taka is 35😅 but I can’t blame you he still looks like a teen. He looks younger now than when I become their fan (12 years ago). He used to grow some facial hair which made him look a bit matured that time. And yes he takes care of his voice very seriously. He doesn’t smoke. He also came from a family of singers (both his parents are traditional Japanese singers) and his little brother is also a vocalist in another Japanese rock band.
Try Push Back by OOK.. this is one of Taka’s favorites. Your Tears Are Mine is another song that reminds me of Queen and Steve Perry vocals. For another acoustic setting- Broken Heart of Gold. More great songs from their albums: Good Goodbye, Hard To Love, Wonder, Head High, Change, One Way Ticket, Letting Go, Stand Out Fit In, Neon, So Far Gone, Unforgettable, Waste Nights (my favorite!!), Grow Old Die Young, Jaded… oh my I can list all of their songs… I will stop here now… Lol! Happy listening! 😊
for more angelic soft vulnerable Taka's voice, check these out: - Wherever You Are (Live Ambitions 2017) - Good Goodbye (Saitama 2015) - A Thousand Miles - Vanessa Carlton (Yokohama Stadium 2014) for heavier stuff with a lot of screams and explosive energy, i recommend these: - Make It Out Alive (1Chance Festival 2023) - Deeper Deeper (Yokohama Stadium 2014) - One by One (Saitama 2015) I also strongly recommend Stand Out Fit In (orchestra 2018), it has really positive vibes❤🔥 Waiting for more OOR, thank you!!
Always love your reactions and the things you point out. To answer some of your questions, this song was previously released as a single a couple years ago so it's been around. The concert DVD/Blu-ray for this tour was just recently released which is why they uploaded this song from it. I'm sure others have already mentioned that it was co-written with Ed Sheeran. They actually have some making of videos for this song on their official channel which I think you'd enjoy, especially maybe the second video where they're recording the instruments with Rob Cavallo in the studio. He gives some suggestions on the drums which you'll find interesting. And definitely Tomoya (the drummer) is a genius. He's also very fun to watch. Check out his channel TOMOYA STUDIO sometime where he drums to and explains drumming OOR songs. If Richard wants to hear Toru (guitar) standing out, check out "NO SCARED" at Yokohama Stadium. For bass (Ryota), I recommend "Deeper Deeper," also from Yokohama Stadium. Looking forward to your next OOR reaction! Hope we won't have to wait long😊
They also wrote this song with the lead singer of the band Coldrain. There's actually a video of them playing live with Ed during their Eye of the Storm tour and to see them with Coldrain check out Skyfall, which they did a collab with them, SiM, and Crystal lake. To see Toru stand out even more you can check out Yume Yume where he actually raps.
One Ok Rock is my daughter's fav group aside from BTS. I took my girls to see OOR live here in Ohio last year at House of Blues Cleveland and this is the MOST hyped song you could ever be a part of lol! Taka gets the crowd so hyped! We were right up at the stage and Taka climbed into the crowd and shook my daughters hand. Her soul left her body hahaha!! This group is so amazing and their live show is the best! You've got to go. This is my fav song from them 🫰❤️ I could send you guys some of our vids they are excellent quality and really showcase their live performances 🎶
I was actually at that show as well, but to be completely honest they have a lot more songs that are much more fun to be a part of. Up until the Ambitions albums their music was much more rock sounding than this song. they changed to a more pop rock sound to appeal more towards fans in the West, but Taka recently said that performing those more pop rock songs were a bit boring and so they won't be writing anymore pop rock. Look up Make it out Alive, that's how they usually sounded and what we can look forward to their next album to sound like.
Renegades came out in 2021, it was an OST to a Japanese movie Rurouni Kenshin: The Final, it was co-written by Ed Sheeran and then it was added to the most recent album release Luxury Disease which came out September 2022... I hope you get to react to much more!
In the song Your Tears Are Mine, Taka and Toru's guitars sound even more like a guitar duet. It has a very nice classic rock ballad vibe and Toru gets to show his skills here. There's a live performance from this Luxury Disease Japan Tour you can find on YT, and an acoustic version but the acoustic one doesn't have the solo guitar parts.
"Liar" please😊 It's an old song but Taka's vocals in that song is awesome (as always) That repeated oh oh oh ho was actually used in the movie (orchestra) for some heroic-emo scenes.
Home alone were our family´s favorites. So many great memories. OOR just did their Japan concerts, this concert is new, the song has about 2 years, always amazing. I think there is a piano version. Sooo good.
Thank you for reacting again to them. Pls continue. This band is not just the ordinary rock band. Love them so much. I recommend Deeper Deeper in Yokohama Stadium live in 2014. This is more heavy than the ones you’ve reacted to.
This is a movie OST, for the 4th installment of the Rurouni Kenshin film series. You should check out the movies too :) One Ok Rock wrote the theme songs for the first 3 movies too.
Awesome reaction as usual! You guys should react to the studio piano version of Renegades. It's so good 😁👍 plus it's a cleaner take on the song vocally
They love Linkin Park. Taka did sing with them but he was so nervous singing with his idol, it didn´t come as he wanted, hah. Love Tomoya´s drums. He did some drumming sessions here on RU-vid.
You should react "we are" the version they are with a lot of kind singing along. Also "nobody's home" have a specific concert where taka almost cry because the feeling and the meaning of that song.
One ok Rock is great. I've seen them twice and I've never been disappointed. Another great rock band from Japan is Band-Maid. From what you guys have been saying, I think Band-Maid would be right up your alley. Most people recommend starting with their live video for Domination, but you won't go wrong with anything off their RU-vid channel.
Thank you for your analyzing this band. I like their balance. No one trying to stand out too much. They are usually 4 of them but there is a keyboard player in this tour. So you can listen it, too.
Toru (guitarist) may not stand out in their songs a lot, but from their Netflix documentary, it seems like Toru is the real glue of the group. He recruited the rest of the band, and he's the origin that the rest of the band remembers. Taka still seems to be their musical leader. They refer to Taka as the "King" lol. It has positive and, if i may say so, negative connotations. Taka is a real artist and a perfectionist at that, and that can generate stress & success. He knows what he wants and expects the band and the production to follow his level of dedication.
Toru is the band's leader from the start and will always be. Taka is the creative and perfectionist right-hand man. Taka can bully the rest of the team but he has always respected Toru because Toru is like his big brother who saved him from being a lost cause once upon a time ago. If Toru did not pursue him to be their vocalist, one ok rock would not be where they are now. All 4 of them are important. Not even Alex is destined to be in the band. The band really took off after they became a 4-member band.
he is 35 🤣🤣 great reactionnn 💖 also, yes i dont think he smokes? or if he does, he already stopped? the same other members as per mentioned in their insta livestream before. and taka doesnt drink/eat any dairies probably to preserve his voice!
I remember exactly at the moment if this Song comes out. It was two years ago. I was waiting for the release on RU-vid and sitting at work. As soon as the stream started, I was excited about this song and really wanted to hear it live. Now it is one of my favorite songs. Very nice reaction. I love it. Mayby you will make a reaction to Dir en Grey - Vanitas. lg
I love how you talk about taka's voice and the amount of strain he doesn't put on his voice, taka really knows his voice and he does the coolest things with it while making seem so easy and carefree. If you check out some of their older songs you'll get to hear some of his screams, like in their song Deeper Deeper
Have you watched him scream in the live video of their newest song, Make It Out Alive? Such a banger 🔥 Taka has said they’re leaving pop rock behind ti return to more of their hard rock style from earlier days, which is exciting
I really enjoyed this reaction, thank you! I’d love to hear your thoughts on Make It Out Alive from the 1Chance Festival live, it’s their most recent single and Taka does some really cool things with his voice. It’s a heavier one with grit and some screaming.
A few people have pointed out that the song was already featured before it's release. I just wanted to add: even if it hadn't been, Japanese audiences are very quick to pick up on the interactional parts of the songs. It's not specific to One OK Rock, it's very common in Japanese music to do have these parts for the audience to interact with. After one listen they will know what to do and the whole crowd will participate.
There are songs where their guitar player (Tooru) is highlighted.. it’s more a matter of if he wants to be noticed, you wouldn’t be able to ignore him, and Taka would also give him the limelight. All of their band members are like this. They will serve the song, even if that means they have to be low-key..
Lately their music has a lot of style elements from the modern worship music. Many suspended 4ths and 2nds in chords, chord progressions of 1,4,5,6 minor, break downs and drum stops and chanting, if you noticed. Also pedal notes on guitar.
There is a band called King Gnu that is popular at the same level as ONE OK ROCK in Japan, and I would like you to listen and explain it✨In particular, I would like you to see two of specialz and Hakujitsu (白日)✨❤
Wow. I was initially drwn because of your reactions/analysis of BTS. And now, you hve my fave band. Love this song. And yeah, Taka is great singer. Wish theyd collab with BTS.
I love that you cover so many types of music! Would you react the black veil brides? They are a 2010 rock group, I recommend -In the End, Faithless, and Savior ll.
I like you guys. It would be worthwhile to take a minute or two on Wikipedia to learn the members' names and something about the song before you record a video
Haha I was thinking the same... it just came out?? BTW here's a link to acoustic which is fantastic. Just in case you want to hear pure Taka vocals. He also does an amazing cover of Adele's 'Hello' which you should totally check out. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JmCsAtjuY3k.htmlsi=N5VizV7ejuzVMJ7g
We actually already have reacted to them twice, and we'll DEFINITELY be back because we're BIG fans!! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5f2EtFrnuds.htmlsi=944bgKD_PjMfYX7I ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lG5uc3foloI.htmlsi=GHuabs8-I7wvjBnl
To command such an audience as they have, ONE OK ROCK reminds me so much of X-Japan (which has disbanded, but you should watch them....they are amazing).
ONE OK ROCK is getting better at singing every time I listen to it ... I'm always shocked🫨 As a fan who supported from a small box, I'm very impressed.
To see just how far they are when they really rock out and Taka using his harsh vocals you guys need to check out their song "Make it out Alive" live at one chance festival. So far the songs you've reacted to by them have been more of their soft rock songs, and not their usual rock/alt/punk rock stuff. That performance will give you Linkin Park vibes for sure. Most of their shows Taka will call out for circle pits and you'll see thousands of people headbanging simultaneously.
I have just been blown away when I heard Taka’s covers of Adele’s songs Hello and Easy on Me… I am so curious what you as a vocal coach would say to how Taka is able to sing in that range so amazingly as a man…
I really love you guys started reacting to One Ok Rock! Love the way you are commenting! Hope you will keep doing One Ok Rock! Oh, and also, you might want to check out Ado as well, she's a beast at doing unconventional great songs!
actually, if you are at it, rock and all, you should also check out Dir en grey. Their singer is also incredible. And they are a harder rock band, with lots of screaming and stuff. I think the recommended song is usually Vinushka. Live of course.
