And, adding one last thought: no painkillers! Unless prescribed by your doctor. They are wonderful for body pains, but KILLERS for vocal injuries. In short, pain tell us to "beware of" (TO BE AWARE), and you are taking that awareness away with medicine. Pain is there for a reason: remove it and you instantly go back to vocal 100% with a damaged instrument. It is like walking with a broken leg. Which is going eventually downhill into a huge ball of shit. haha You need the pain to tell you to protect itself, and if you're recovering or getting worse. By the way, it might be natural feeling pain/discomfort in some situations while in silence for even when we're not talking we make movements in there the whole time to process thoughts, emotions, copying a random sound we hear, it's normal using our voice boxes in a "semi-automatic mode", the pain makes us aware of it while telling us to just stop it.

Me too. Came to this channel to get some advice on vocal fry and here we have this wonderful and super-entertaining mix of a hippie, a cat lady and a true vocal demon. Such a lovable personality. 🙂

Thank you ! Very useful to know when to be cautious. I used to be rough with my voice, but I lost it several times on the last year (one time completely for a mere week) so, well,... I'm grateful for advices on a more cautious approach.

I hope your voice is better now and you're losing it less often :)

so if after every vocal practice (screaming techniques i.e. false chords stuff) that is approximately 15 min warmup and about 45 to 90 min screaming, my upper notes are gone, it is not normal? especially my upper register in false chord is almost not accesible anymore. i guessed it is some sort of fatigue since the next day its fine again.

Sounds like fatigue. It is normal and common but it is also avoidable. If it's happening to you, I would start playing around & experimenting with trying to figure out what is causing it. Check in with your high notes after each song and see, first, if your high notes are there after the first & second songs or if they vanish immediately...

Do you mean while your voice is changing (i.e. puberty-related changes)? If yes, then yes definitely :)

I'm either weird, or I'm overly cautious and not messing my voice up as much as I expect. I find my highest notes are very resilient and if anything's gonna go wrong, it'll be in the middle of my chest voice?? I did just have covid but it's happened other times too, maybe just coz I haven't done as much work on chest voice stuff? idk XD

Chest voice hiccups do happen as well, and even loss of the lowest notes in one's range, it's just less common than the high notes. I don't know where the "middle" of your chest voice is - is it around C4, is it around G4, is it at an A4? How high do you take your chest voice? XD Regardless, if you are expriencing loss in that area, check in with squeaky, cartoon sounds there and see if you can make a sound and coordinate the muscles back to normal phonation :)

@@AlikiKatriou Thanks! Not so much loss, just roughness? Seems to be better now that I've mostly kicked the covid, but I'll definitely try that next time I get the issue! My voice has been weird in general lately though, I'm getting lower notes than I used to and getting higher in my chest voice too... gonna hope that's thanks to practice but there was a long period where I hardly did any work and now suddenly it's all happening?? XD **flashbacks to childhood violin lessons where my teacher accused me of not practicing whenever I actually had, but thought I had practiced a lot whenever I didn't** ...I might need to check I'm not just living in bizzarro world lol 😅
