I don't understand why people want her to exactly imitate Lennon,what is the point? This is Christina Aguilera version,with her own mother/father feelings put into it.More authentic and original than trying to out-Lennon John Lennon,something nobody will be ever be able to do anyway.

Come on, without regard to pitch = sloppi- (heroin/cocaine addict) -ness. Lennon's roots were in the blues, and this is the first song of Aguilera's that I've ever heard that had some muscle to it.
@renatoenoch What key did she sing in, and what key did John sing in? They sound the same to me. Although maybe your later comment adjusts for this,. I was always impressed with John for how high he could sing (I'm a sort of baritone, and can't sing for shit above middle C) and how low La Aguilera could sing (always had a thing for contraltos). I love this because she can totally relate. The whole domestic abuse that was going on. She can totally feel connected with this song. She could barely get through singing "I'm Ok" on VH1 storytellers the first and last time she song it.
@johnstevo69 - It's true, the vocals are amazing. I don't disagree at all. I'm just saying that the power of this song is in the emotion behind it, not the melodic structure. Christina has an amazing voice, but her performance on this song is too planned, too pitch perfect, and too well sung to really compete with the lennon version. I like this cover a lot, but it simply doesn't have the same emotional impact. Do you understand what I mean?
this is a pretty good cover, but I prefer the lennon version. it's not because christina isn't a good singer, it's just because i think all the blues licks in her singing at the end ruin the emotional power of the song. lennon's version is so immensely raw, especially at the end, when he just screams at the top of his lungs, without any regard for pitch. john's version makes me cry. this version guts the song a little bit, in my opinion.

Rubbish. She's fine when she copies Lennon's delivery; but when she starts improvising at the end it's totally tasteless and inappropriate. She just goes into vocal acrobatics, like she completely doesn't get the point of the song. Might as well have a big guitar solo there. The song's not about fancy riffing: it's about RAW emotional pain and vulnerability, not hiding behind a bunch of showy flash.
It's not rubbish, it's the way she sing's her whole vocal style has always been her riffing and running as well as doing her famous vocal slide's and growls, she can let the emotion flow without all that easily there are many performance's when she does do that and hold's back but most of the time she like's to go all out because she has the vocal ability for it, if you don't like it then to bad just don't listen to her, i personally like this better than the original... anyone can just sit there and copy the original but it take's a real artist to actually change it up and make it their own, obviously she wasn't trying to convey the same message as Lennon was, she isn't a silly little american idol or x factor contestant you know.
Alex Dakota Listen again. This is a song about losing your mother, your father, and your whole childhood and then begging for it back. There is no way on Earth that Christina conveys this mood and meaning at the end of the song. She sings fast, repetitive three-note blues riffs, which come off as strident, cocky, and aggressive, and in no way convey the pain and vulnerability of the loss this song describes. She completely shatters the mood of the song. She turns it into a "you go girl" moment. But the lyrics are about begging your parents to stay. It doesn't fit at all. It's actually quite ridiculous. Her understanding of the song is completely superficial. As you say, this is Christina's "whole vocal style". I agree. My point is that she simply riffs as a matter of habit; she doesn't have the taste to realize that it is not appropriate. For people like you, good singing equals doing a lot of fancy vocal work; but you've got to engage the material.
So? get over it... she changed it up to fit HER voice, if she want's to add bluesy riff's at the end she can, also you obviously don't know her work at all since you think she doesn't have the taste to realize when something doesn't fit because she has plenty of song's where she actually conveys a lot of pain from her childhood through her song's, if you listen to her song "oh mother" you will understand what i mean, she adds emotion through her run's in there especially when she sing's it live, and her song "i'm ok" has the exact same emotional feel as this song supposedly has, the original with John Lennon has no emotional value for me in fact it bores me to death but this version i really like

Dude, she was abused by her father as a child, if you knew anything about her you would know that, she wrote the song's "oh mother" and "im ok" because of it, listen to the lyrics and you will understand.
