Playlist: • 🎶Lesson #1 - Just the ...
This is an Advanced range vocal warm-up for Soprano Voice. Beginners, take this slowly and only go as high as comfortable.
Time Codes for each exercise are listed below!
Take lessons from me or find a reputable teacher in your area!
www.nats.org/cgi/page.cgi/_mem...
DISCLAIMER:
This is a basic vocal exercise series. It is not a beginner's exercise series.
All examples are in the soprano/alto range.
Ideally, a teacher would assess where your voice is at and give exercises accordingly. I have, however, been asked to put together a regimen of standard exercises that I use in my studio for current students. These 10 exercises are a small compilation of years of training and 20 years of teaching voice. In particular, these exercises stem from study and guidance from my voice teacher Bill Bauer, of Dallas Texas. He is, in a word, genius!
If you are a soprano/tenor and the exercises feel high, simply go to the alto/baritone-bass exercises and begin from there. You will eventually stretch easily to your upper range. The range I recorded is modest.

Why spend the money to take a vocal lesson?
You are not only paying for the education and experience of the teacher but the ears. A trained teacher (NOT coach) should be able to hear and assess your personal issue and lead you on a path to fix and balance your voice!
I HIGHLY recommend a NATS approved vocal teacher!

This is an excellent warm-up. I did the warm-up, went to rehearsal and I was able to reach E6 on pitch and with power. I also sustained my breathing while singing my lower notes. Thank you!

The lip trills or what ever they were called, reminded my of my musical theatre class. Cause we do that and a few other warm ups. Lol we do one where we say "red leather, yellow leather, red leather, yellow leather, red leather, yellow leather, red" and we just get faster and faster. It's fun lol.

For your annunciation? Correct me if I'm wrong, lol. What I was taught was the sequence you just said and PUH-TI(H/ not the 'E' sounding I)-KUH. Sp puh-ti-kuh and you say it slow then gradually get faster! It's really fun.

Wooww.. I'm in choir (I'm grade 7) and I did this test on youtube for my voice a while ago today and my highest note came to D5 and my lowest, F3 so it said i was Alto... So I searched up some tutorials/warm ups and this was the first one I found. This is the best singing warm up I've ever found. My voice feels like its exercised! This is great, I might even do this same warm up daily! Thanks!! :)

+Zony Metsio The best thing for you to remember about breathing is your intake. You MUST have a relaxed, deep, open (yawn-like) breath in. If you are stressed in your intake it will negatively effect phonation! Make sure you do not have tongue tension when you breath in...if you do, think "uh" as you breath in. "Uh" as in summer - s"UH"mmer

Thanks for giving the top notes. This is out of my range by about one whole step. My top note is a F#/Gb. Also, I had no trouble at all with the lowest notes (probably an F3?). I must be a true alto, but I will use this to stretch! Thanks. 😲 🎶

"Nyea" sounds so weird and it's so hard to do! Thank you very much for this helpful video! Throughout the video, I found I could sing the highest notes more and more. I'm not sure if it was my vocal range "expanding" or if you only put the high notes in the beginning.

This is too weird. I came here looking for a warm-up to pass on to my vocal student and then realized who you are. I'm from Texarkana too and I remember seeing you sing SOMEWHERE (maybe at a fair or festival). I think you might've known my parents, Joe & Janelle Livsey...they had a country band called "The Blackhawk Band." Anyway, I'm now living in Nigeria and I teach Art and Performing Arts at an American school here. Wow. Small world. Congrats on your success Karmyn. :)

How cool is that!? I have heard of your parents! Yes! The I think we were on the same festival circuit! Seriously! What a small world!! I hope you found something for your student. I’m doing explanation videos for each exercise to help do these more effectively. Those may help too! Congrats on your teaching gig!! That’s outstanding!!

love your warmup! Do you think you could put the note occasionally? Mentally I'd like to see what not i'm on when i'm practicing with you.

This was really helpful. It pushes my upper range, but I wish it would've done the same for my lower range too.

when I saw everyone commenting this...I skipped to it and it was pretty easy...just make sure youre relaxed, standing straight, breathing and singing from your diaphragm.

Hey could you give me some tips on breath support to avoid voice cracks please? Because even on the low notes, my voice tends to crack. Thank you

Hi Zony! How have you been? Warming up does exactly that- prevent cracks and unevenness when it comes to the voice. Having a neutral/relaxed throat as well as good, straight posture with the head slightly tilted inwards towards your back (straight, neutral neck) can also work wonders. Happy singing!

The "kiu" is unusual vowel sound that I am not used to hearing in vocal warm ups. Can you give some guidance as to what this vowel does in terms of placement, or rather what the purpose of this sound is? is to connect with the mix area, or...? Where should I be focussing? Especially as it goes higher . Thank you.

+Wanda Nowicki Of course! The Kiu exercises balances the EE to OO with a "moment before" support and stretches the vocal tract. The EE can sometimes be too bright and the OO to dark. This exercises, when done properly, helps center the sound. You will feel like you are holding the breath for a moment before you phonate the 'k.' Support is essential during the entire exercise! Keep your throat relaxed. Sometimes it helps to move the lips to a very small opening with an elongated jaw to phonate on the higher notes. (Think whistle lips.) The sound will be light but not breathy. If you need to have this position for the entire exercises it is fine. When your muscles get stronger, you won't need the extreme jaw position. The jaw position keeps the tongue from pushing back down the throat and closing off the sound. Hope this helps!

+Karmyn Tyler Cobb Vocal Studio Thanks for the clarification. what does phonate mean EXACTLY?
@ktvocalstudio
@ktvocalstudio 8 лет назад
To phonate means to articulate a sound and in particular when your vocal cords vibrate to make a sound. I should have said: “This exercises, when done properly, helps center the sound. You will feel like you are holding the breath for a moment before you articulate the 'k' in preparation to phonate the EE to OO.” Sorry about that. You do want to ‘think’ as if the ‘k’ is on that first pitch. In reality is doesn’t have a pitch. It is a voiceless plosive sound. Lingua-velar to be more specific. Thank you. Sometimes I have limited time to answer back. Thank you for catching that!

I'm always better in the afternoon, but it depends on when you need to sing, early morning isn't ideal though

Just sing to which ever point feels the most comfortable for you and stop until the piano descends to the point that point again and resume the exercise. You're probably an alto. I'm an alto too :) so it's normal lol
@daniabadeister1526
@daniabadeister1526 7 лет назад
it's normal. You have to use your falsetto on the higher notes. Never push your voice during warmup!
@firstlast-wg2on
@firstlast-wg2on 6 лет назад
Don't just stop when you reach falsetto, falsetto is the most important vocal register, it encompasses mixed voice and head voice. Only your chest voice matters when you're wanting to sing maybe contemporary music where you're doing some chest belts.
