For me, it was Streetstar that got me into watching Vogue videos. Around the 3:00 mark, there's a dancer in a purple sweater must've inspired Leiomy. I love it.
So y’all think this is where Madonna got her inspiration from for her song Vogue? Or are they inspired by Madonna? The dance seems very similar in her video.
Energy Guru What you are witnessing in the video is what inspired Madonna’s “vogue” song. Not the other way around. You can’t take ballroom away from us. Us LGBTQIA+ blacks and Latinos INVENTED vogue. Learn your lesson.
Tyler Starr if you don’t have the mental capacity to have conversations that helps someone to become a little more knowledgeable... And if you’re not helping enlighten then it’s probably best you keep your mouth closed and let some one with class and civility take charge. I simply asked some question so that i can learn lessons and to help my research.l and i was very respectful about it. where did anyone try to take ballroom away from anybody? You’re probably not even into ballroom. So please move around because you don’t know how to inform anyone of anything, and you don’t know anything so let the real ones step forward.
So happy to find this. ‘Pose’ has really opened my consciousness to the LGBTQ+ subculture that I truly hadn’t known about. I’ve been doing so much research and learning about the Ballroom culture’s history. These humans paved the way for so many. So much culture comes from this era and these beautiful souls. Thanks for sharing!
Christopher W Yet you’re here? Don’t like it? Don’t watch. Most people have never even heard of the ballroom scene before so it’s really fascinating to see it and learn about it. This is representation that people need to see. Don’t be mad bc you can’t do what they’re doing baby girl
@@McGregorsPlumbingandHeating Now you sound over dramatic. These people have brought inspiration to modern Lgbtq today. If you're a bigot, just say that and sit back down.
I appreciate the new school of vogueing; however, I will always be partial and love the old way of vogueing. It's simply because I grew up during that time.
Love how there was a perfect balance of masculinity and femininity in voguing back in the day. There was just a certain level of class that you just don’t see anymore. Love the last beat, btw. So ovah, so ‘90s. 💕✨
They were SERVING! I swear I love old way. Don’t get me wrong new way is great as well but something about those clean lines, precision and style gets me every time.
Love the history and culture of my community. I can't imagine how much the pain and sacrifices they had face just to give us good contribution into dancing.
WERK LEGENDS AND ICONS........the 90's was an era where you DEFINITELY had to VOGUE....the competition was FIERCE so you had to make your vogue your own.
And finding that resonate energy & conuring it back up; for the past 2 generations.... Is the only thing that'll save the Creation for what we knew for. Or, dying off & being forgotten about is what will happen.
I’m obsessed with the squatting duck walk vogueing. I really respect people that are able to do that. As a youngster we used to snap and fan people on the dance floor, when they were bad ass. I never knew where it came from until Pose came out.
Why are you telling people to forget "Pose" when it brought Voguing back to the spotlight, introduced many new people to it & really let the people know what the culture was about. Pose is an absolute masterpiece of a television show & I highly recommend for everyone to watch it even if they aren't necessarily into this type of stuff, it can turn you & sooner or later you find yourself vogueing 💃🏻💅🏼Ryan Murphy is a genius & he picks his actors/actresses well to play the parts & they all did an OUTSTANDING job along with the people who chose such a beautiful soundtrack for the show! It REALLY showed how these times were & brought to light many important issues so Pose should be anything but forgotten 🗿
DEREK MUGLER...can be seen at 6:40 (team performance with Randy Mugler) 8:44, 9:17 (White Gloves, Mark Ballroom) 10:23, 12:06 Nike Pavillion Atl Legendary battle with Armani to Cuban Pete. It would be hard to tell the story of vogue fem in the late 90's without mentioning Derek Mugler
Hey Orlando are you one of us from back in those days too? just asking cause it's so good to know man, i'ld give anything to see all those people again in the clubs, i took them for granted, my God
This video definitely deserves an award no doubt it’s a classic film iconic to the fullest extent of life remember some of the guy’s in this video are not with us they have taken there journey to the afterlife wishing the guy’s the best journey in there new life
I’m Glad I was there to witness the birth of Vogue and free style Dancing I’ll never forget it never it was classic iconic moment in my lifetime I remember Paris Dupree and Danny extravaganza and many more iconic Masters Tracks and the tunnel uncle Charles there was two uncle Charles bars with videos and we used to just hang out and watch videos and that’s were I met all the Masters many are here with us and many have taken there journey to the afterlife I wish them all the best in there new life of happiness and peace and prosperity and love to all and one day we will all vogue in the heavens above serve it
Hello! We would like to use this video for a culture series, particularly how vogue ballroom migrated to Asia in the 1990s. Here is the legal jargon I'm obligated to use for this request- South China Morning Post Publishers Limited (SCMP) would like to use this video within all SCMP platforms and/or distribute to partners in perpetuity for news reporting purposes. We seek your permission to use the same and will give you an on-screen credit as 'Derek Prada-Ebony/Rob @Film at Eleven'. Please let us know whether this is agreeable to you.
I love all the facets that the ballroom scene has influenced without ANY PROPER CREDIT... they took voguing and call it "whacking..." Y'all just keep on keeping on and inspiring us all!
Wow the guy in all white with white hair reminded me so much of popping and breakdancing Thank you for sharing. Absolutely awed by all of you especially doing your thing when acceptance was so far away from present day. Which still isn't great.🎉
Best Vogue Dancers were in the 80’s 👑🇵🇷👑🇺🇸they were unique, had style, precision, timing, incredible flexibility, and dancing was waaaaay superior than nowadays 🤷🏽♂️🙏🏼
Voguing used to look sooooo much better i could cry looking at what the standard has become now. Back in the day you had to create your own signature moves, they used to watch their shadow and let the music speak to them. That’s one of the most special parts about performance to me, it should be YOUR OWN. UNIQUE. Nowadays people vogue with stupid faces and their tongue out, do backflips and silly dances into dips. It’s very heartbreaking. Bring back real VOGUING
@@DaytonaMeth7 there is only a handful (😢) of the recent generation that Vogue beautifully with technique and precision. Shout out to those keeping it alive and the archives aswell! All of this vintage footage is gold.
Besides from this obvious unique room full of talent it really hurts to know the majority of these people are no longer with us see it's not what you do it's how you do it this is why they say the old ways pave the way for up and coming it is really our responsibilities to teach the youth about wearing protection thank God for prep I know this is a little bit off topic but again I was just thinking about Willie Ninja and how he possibly could have made it a little longer if he was around with the advancement of medication and technology etc
Fierce is really not a positive term in the scene. I know Tyra Banks made it popular by the term is actually a read....When someone comes up to you and says "You look fierce" they are actually saying you look ugly and are a hot mess.
I remember there were seriously cool parties back in Budapest, Hungary with Queens 👸best parties of my life. The ballroom if I remember correctly called: Capella that time. I’m happy I met this culture early in my life 💖 can only imagine how was it in New York back then. Love you all.
