@@spiwolf6998I curse you to... Something awful, I'm not creative. That movie is a DISGRACE to one of my favorite series. It's shameful it ever existed, and Disney deserved to almost go bankrupt from it! #notmycauldron
It sounds like the voice video games just when they need an evil corporation ad voice lol. I guess that's where it comes from, but it's stuck as the voice of Hyperion ads in my brain 😂
Old kids books sometimes came with cassette tapes and vinyl 45's with exactly that style of voice acting. And chimed when it was time to turn the page.
@P-nk-m-na exactly! Sounds like the ads I hear on American radio (I don't know which one, or why my mom is listening to it from Europe, but I swear that woman sounds JUST like that 😂)
@@peggyknecht5551 forgot CNK. I didn't watch a whole bunch of modern Disney. But she was like the go-to kid voice back in the day and seemed to make adulthood without a whole lot of drama. (At least I never heard anything bad about her.)
@@elsvaughn7959 I read the books, even have copies on my shelf to this day. I also had an opportunity to watch a filmstrip with audio version of the series before the movie was released. I was VERY upset when I went to see the movie in the theater. The ONLY thing I liked in that movie was Gurgi, and even he was altered from what he was in the books. I still refuse to rewatch that movie to this day. There is also a video on RU-vid about how that movie not only almost lead to the downfall of Disney animation, but also spawned Pixar and Dreamworks as animators left over disputes with the execs over it.
Always blared through speakers louder than whatever was on the actual tape. Can’t tell you how many times I scared myself because I forgot to turn the tv down after putting something in
@@imkindasortofmaybealittlegay Yeah, her personality is a little Rapunzel-esque (as every disney princess has been in the last decade) but respect to ya. Honestly just want to see a character who isn't "adorkable".
I never understood why everyone ignored the black cauldron and sometimes sleeping beauty... it's as if since there's actually a visible castle with higher detail they forget about it.
That movie was beautiful. I watched it with my auntie before she passed and she told me she was gonna come back and reincarnate like the grandma in the movie.
That's spot-on impressions of Snow White, Cinderella and Ariel 👏👏👏👏 Well done 👍👍👍👍👍You girl could already qualify as the future voice actors of these three Disney Princesses 😉
I don't think the tree is supposed to be her actual grandmother as it mentions that her mother also got advice from the tree when she was young. Grandmother/father used to be a term of respect for older people.
Yeah, I remember that (like how you remember a bad dream). My three favorite Disney films are Treasure Planet, Atlantis, and Tarzan - so obviously I’m a little bitter about how they treated these awesome stories and characters. Jane and Kida taught me so much.
@@OneWhoDreamsAwake Atlantis is a huge ripoff. I'm kind of glad it was memeory-holed otherwise it would have overshadowed the original, and this would have been unfair.
Personally, I really like the unique blend of common media accents in the common refined lady voice of the 50s, like halfway British and American with the Transatlantic sound due to the events and social roles of the time. As an Australian who doesn't quite sound like any of the mentioned accents here (including Aussie), it's kind of comforting, I felt like an old movie Princess as a little kid
Yay, The Black Cauldron AND Atlantis are being remembered! I still watch both of them to this day. I adored Kida the most out of any princess, she was strong and vibrant, she was a warrior and cared deeply for her people. She was definitely one of my role models.
Kida being forgotten is such a crime against animation, she’s still one of my favorite princess characters, she’s quick witted and snarky, she’s loving and independent and she’s got the “born yesterday” naïveté energy which is usually adorable on male or female characters
I think of it as Commercially Feminine American, or essentially, Barbie. I even used to joke about that exact type of voice as a little kid years before tiktok, because saying anything in that voice just instantly sounds like your trying to sell the idea to little girls, like the vocal equivalent of glossy hot pink plastic to me.
It's cool to learn the depth behind the 1930s voice. I honestly thought it was because Snow White was literally a little 14 year old baby and they had to make it clear she is 100% in that cutesy little girl trope, and the popularity of her movie pioneering animated films started a trend. As a non-American, I did also notice that wra where princess media became very commercial American sounding and modern, kind if eases me into the new princess media standard of everyone being quirky, adorkable, awkward, and jarringly modern. Works for Rapunzel, she was locked in a tower for 18 years only able to speak to and try earn the favour of a woman who only sees her as a tool, and I guess Anna for very similar but less abusive reasons? (Surely the castle staff cared what she had to say and taught her a little conversation etiquette?)
Eh, modern Disney princesses are all over the place, with Disney having no clue what the role of a princess even is anymore. They feel like confused and horrible mixes of "not like other girls" and "I did nothing wrong, yet the world oppresses me." They feel almost too perfect, with their "flaws" being that they are "quirky" or "clumsy".
@panmoncada7257 she had beauty and the Beast music in the background so I'm thinking when the fairy turned into the old crone in the beginning, she might have been implying that?
@@panmoncada7257 I'm thinking it may be because of the wisdom and care a grandmother brings? Since I was and still am really close to my grandmother, and very lucky to still have her around, those movies stick with me. I absolutely loved Pocahontas. Grandmother Willow was one of my favorite characters because she reminded me of my grandma :-)
“And sometimes, even a personality!” Finally someone is honest about old disney movies. There were no characters, just humans who may or may not move the plot.
oh fuck it just clicked that Ursula is a subversion of the fairy godmother trope! “helping” the princess get the prince in order to gain leverage so she can become the evil queen. Combining those two characters into one character’s arc was really good writing now that i think abt it
the 1950s sounds so amazing, like a reporter with short black fluffy hair, a red suit with a tight red skirt 😭 (i hope you guys are as delusional as me ong)
treasure planet is the goat of all Disney movies, and one of the most underrated; on the bright side, however, since its underrated we'll nvr have to worry about a crap live action remake
As a 90's kid, hearing that 90's announcer voice is like a punch in the face and I don't know why. I think it's from how Disney merchandise used to be advertised on the hour but back then always cost an arm and a leg. I could only see but never have u.u
I don’t want to be rude but you are an amazing voice actor. Like most people can probably do a singular princess voice but being able to fully encapsulate the specific era of voice so well is super cool.
Your 1950s voice was cool kinda reminded me of when those types would be written as “go getter ladies with attitude” the kind that would say “now listen here buddy” or smoke cigars and steal
I literally just had a nostalgia moment! With the 90s Barbie Voice… it takes me back to sitting in my grandma’s pantry, playing on her windows 98 computer playing the horseback riding game!❤
Just found this, had to go back and rewatch it because I was laughing so hard after the Eilonwy bit that I missed the rest of it. Also, we do stan Kida and the fact that she's left out of the princess lineup (and not acknowledged as the first princess of color) is a CRIME.
Actually, 50s princesses actually did have personalities. Whether it was being sweet, fare, or innocent. They did have personalities. It was the princes that didn't have any personalities.
She wouldn't be forgotten or ignored if Disney grew a functioning brainstem and adapted the Chronicles of Prydain faithfully, perhaps into a series of movies if they insist on being theatrical. Eilonwy was actually one of the best fleshed-out characters in the originals books.
Our girl gets ignored way too often, she's a very refreshing change from the usual Princess performance. Idk, she feels more like an action/adventure protagonist from a non-Disney series.
Wanna know a secret, Snow white spunded like that because she was voiced by a 14 year old girl. As the popularity of the films proved their worth more adults got the work and the transatlantic was a popular accent in the 40s and 50s. I think it a little patronising to say that Disney were imposing this on people (and believe me Im not a fan of Disney) they were infact just following trends. Disney impose a that more 💩 in people than just accents.
Thank you for acknowledging Kida and Eilonwy i love them so much , The Black Couldron is one of my aunts favorite movies and i absolutely love Atlantis
