Serious kudos to the writing and delivery of this banger of a tune from Eskimo Callboy. Perfect blend of influences, different vocal techniques that is still super fun! P.s I see you all asking for a Hypa Hypa react and I'm definitely down to explore more of their music. So many questions from We Got The Moves... so much potential future fun to be had.
Hypa Hypa was their big "reaction scene" blowup. They liked it enough that they collaborated with other German artists and bands from totally different genres to do an album worth of covers. Strangely fresh every new version you hear, despite essentially being the same song Lol.
The big songs to check out from them would be Hypa Hypa as others have noted (there are also a lot of additional covers from other artists on that one, with WBTBWB being a notable one), MC Thunder, MC Thunder II. They've got a knack for very fun, very catchy songs, easily one of my favorite bands these days.
The thing you need to be aware of is that if you go down the Hypa Hypa rabiit hole, you will come out with about 8 reactiobs, because you will certainly want to find out in just how many styles that song sounds great.
I absolutely knew you would love this, and I seriously can't wait for you to do more stuff from them. I'd give you my personal favorite recommendations, but it already seems like you're getting slammed so I'll spare you. 😂 Also, totally unnecessary, but much love for the shoutout!
And after the original Hypa Hypa, please a reaction to the Cover from "we butter the bread with butter" (yes that is the name of the band), i think this will be more confusing to Julia :D
Someone once said Germans weren't funny, lol. It's a pure summer party anthem. It manages to get deathcore into a pop-friendly idea that is otherwise quite reliable and time-honored. They just do it really well with their own unique sense of humor, which what is really new. I think the hair is symbolic of the groove - the whole band is locked in to start and everyone else joins.
At the end the guy shouts: „What the f**k is going on??? P**s off, you rags“. Rags can be translated to loser in German. What a great reaction, thank you, Julia Greetings from Germany 🤘🏻
Definitely one my favorite recent metal groups😄 Great melodies, great musicality all around, and they don’t take themselves seriously at all, it’s almost adorable😂😍
The new Devo for this generation (with broader range of genres). They instantly popped into mind with the video style, matching looks for everyone, and an electronica based central theme that’s just tons of fun! I’m glad to have discovered them with you, and thank you as well for your very informative commentary and the honest reaction!
The whole "I...can't...even..." reaction you had was absolutely perfect for this. The thing is, a perfectly suitable answer to most of your questions could be "...It's a German thing..."
There's a making of video that they've put up as well as a video reacting to reactions which helps answer some of your questions. But what it really comes down to is they just like fun gags in their videos
This song (and this band in general) never fails to bring me out of a funk of depression...it's impossible to not love them and how brilliantly they mix genres into fun and catchy upbeat anthems...I've heard their live shows are absolutely phenomenal...
Super catchy, fun, heavy yet poppy. They're literally the full package. Not sure how long they can maintain though before it becomes predictable, but for now it's a joy ride.
I agree with you when you were talking about how the music might get general listeners to listen to harsher vocals/genres that they might not normally like. It was the opposite for me. I'm a huge deathcore, metal, screamo fan and i got into electronic music way more after listening to them. It definitely works both ways.
Eskimo Callboy is a German metalcore / post-hardcore / trancecore band from Castrop-Rauxel, founded in 2010. With their often comedic songs, music videos and live shows, they are now among the most successful bands of their genre worldwide.
They're weird in a fun, joyful way. I only recently found them, and I'm hooked. You can't continue having a bad day when you hear their music, it's impossible.
To say I am here for this is an understatement, these guys are hilarious and make some real catchy music! I must recommend Hypa Hypa by them! Another band, not quite the same but they rule is Spiritbox! Their new album rips! I’m still waiting on their reaction from ya 🥴
@@jvoxfox I’d say great minds think alike! I’m just out here trying to teach the people the greatness of metal music! If you’re looking for some more great vocals, gotta give Dance Gavin Dance - Inspire the Liars a listen! Talk about some nice high vocals and some nice screams as well
I enjoy your reaction cause it’s different from “most” reactors. For the most part reactors don’t actually break down influences, layers, etc. Its completely different and refreshing content I can’t get from other reactors.
I love your genuine happy expression throughout the video, that's so awesome and I think exactly what they are going for in this kind of music. Just happy hardcore metal fun :D
9:07 he's basically saying piss of you "weaklings/idiots". (Not to sure how you'd translate the word in englisch. The literal translation would be "piss of, you lobes/rags". :D
I love the vibe. Did anyone else get a new wave/metal "Devo" feel ie gotta whip it whip it good. Can't not help but like these guys. Brilliant. Another band I would not have found if not for you Julia and thanks to Tank the tech.
Def check out more from EC, namely Hypa Hypa and MC Thunder Parts 1 and 2 (I'd put closed captions on for part 1) - and if you want another good recommendation, I'd go with 20km/h by We Butter the Bread with Butter. And for something more serious, do Spiritbox, basically any song by them. Rule of Nines, Holy Roller and/or Constance would by my picks (in order of personal preference) - but you really can't go wrong with any of their tracks. They've put out banger after banger ever since they got together.
EC is such a fun group that I discovered due to tank doing a reaction to hypa hypa. And I have been dying for them to put out more music and this was so perfect. And happy that more people are reacting to them still
Your reaction was so enjoyable, that I enjoyed this song even more than usually 🤣 I would love to see your reaction to their "Parasite" and "Mindreader" songs, I'm pretty sure you'll love them! 😊 Enjoy and have a fantastic day! ❤
You aren't wrong about the layering but also the guitars add extra tone to the growls and also Eskimo Callboy are absolutely killing the game. Amazing band for sure!
Keeping in mind that I have no formal music training whatsoever... I just really love how she is able to dissect a song that truly is "genius" but also just something fun to listen to. This being the only video I have ever seen from her channel really is able to get across her wide range of knowledge in the music industry. 👍 Good job hitting the nail on the head as well as being able to bring in your own intuition of song progression.
Hey Julia first time beeing on your channel. I am a German guy who talked to British, American and Australian people before and I must say you're perfectly understandable. Clear voice...good production. Well done...really.
I think an important aspect of this band you missed, I think becuase you’re covering just the vocal tonality of things, is this is a German band singing in English. It was jarring watching an interview and it was in German and they sing their songs in English. Then all of the discotheque beats made sense.
They are a German band. That explains a lot!!! Just kidding! Thank you Julia for reacting to this song. I dare you to react to Eskimo Callboy's song Hypa Hypa!!!!!
Such a fun song to put a smile on the face at the start of the day. Love your reactions! would love for you to check out the amazing cover by ghost: "if you have ghosts"
Great reaction what's funny to me is in the beginning you're like the rock metal stuff like you're not into it but immediately on the breakdown you knew exactly to headbang perfect
xD Glad you enjoyed! Tank's a great presenter on here! Definitely a fan of his content, like I am yours. Don't really have much to say this time around. hahaha, I just enjoyed this song/reaction! Keep it up. :)
I'll add a request for you to analyze another Angelina Jordan performance. For insight into her method/technique, I'd recommend her studio rehearsal of I'm A Fool To Want You. It's just Angelina in the booth with a mic and a barely audible instrumental track. Here's the link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-79tM-Spcr1Q.html
Now the road is paved to get to We butter the bread with butter! Have fun! I'm really looking out to the WBTBWB Hyper Hyper version reaction done by you.
It was so cute that you got speechless for a bit. Your reaction was perfect. I've become a fan of Eskimo Callboy and I'm not into dance music. I love the mixture of the dance and the rock and they're a fun band. This is why I love rock music because it can add almost any other genre and work. Also, you ask great questions! :) A lot of people would say listen to Hypa Hypa next, and that's a good song but I would suggest MC Thunder II (Dancing like a Ninja) because I love that video! Hypa Hypa is a funny video too, but MC Thunder II Is my favorite! Oh also there is another band called "We Butter Our Bread With Butter" who is like Eskimo Callboy but they don't sing in English, but their videos are just as funny!
This is fascinating. I have seen many people discover Eskimo Callboy through Hypa Hypa, but literally every other reaction I've seen for We Got The Moves is by people familiar with Hypa Hypa already. Seeing you interpret Eskimo Callboy with this song as your only point of reference brings a very different perspective. Thanks for being different.
The whole look came about as a "we must look as silly as possible" idea, and the bowl cut came up as a throwback to school days if I remember their interview with Alex Hefner correctly. For the whole range I recommend all the songs including their new singer: Hypa Hypa, Hate/Love, Dancing like a ninja...
Just discovered your Channel and watched some of your reactions today. I Love the way you’re trying to explain how they sing and build up songs. It kind of shows me why some of the uses of voices work to me as they do. I really would love to see you reacting to the japanese Band Dir En Grey. Some Songs I would recommend are Ranunculus or Vinushka
i watched an interview with them and they said that this song was intentionally upbeat. because of the pandemic and everyone struggling with losing their jobs and loved ones to COVID they wanted to release something happy and to get people pumped up
hi so basicly they have 2 vocalist, (actually the 2 sitting by the horse in that video you reacted to), also if you listen to older stuff, they changed one of their vocalists, so that can throw stuff off probably. and yeah they are an insanely good band, their live show is insanely amazing
one of their singers, "Nitro Nico" has a wunderful clean voice. And yes you got it right, the guy in the end says "get of my land you fouls" in a really rude way ;))
"I feel like I want to watch it again" Oh, I know that feel. Every time it pops up in my reccomendations, all I can do is say "OH FUCK YEAH, LET'S DO IT AGAIN!" ;)
Good ol Tank. He really made your day. No jump inbto the rabbit hole, there is lots more to find, but beware, the rabbit will bite your butt without warning.
Might be double tracked, but what I hear is a take on what Tuvan singers do. I guess Bel Canto calls it 'fry' but that's not what happens when you train properly. It's the regular tone in the vocal folds while the distorted part can be done simultaneously higher up in the throat. Crows and ravens speak like that, but instead of vibrating two places in one tube they have syrinx, two tubes to make up to five tones at once.
Your interpretation of the last guy with his german sentence is btw rather near but in rude. He is first asking "Whats going on?!!?!" and then "Get Lost you rags." or rather "F*** off" Glad you liked it. yeah it totally is a fun video to watch.
This song led me to dive deep into Eskimo Callboy, and while this is still my favorite song and video from them, the runner-up is Tekkno Train which is only slightly less absurd.
In an interview they said that they deliberately look silly (on stage at least) so that people in the audience feel like they can look however they want.
