Floor bamboozled me in this performance! I have no regrets!! (I never do with Nightwish songs). I loved the aggressive element of this song from the growls to the physicality and the fire!!

I'm 99% sure it's a stylistic choice WRT the distortion she's using. It's an intense song with a dark meaning so she's accenting in that way.

You should also have a look at Floor former band Revamp. I recommend "Revamp - Disdain", a more aggressive song of her. :)

Tuomas actually wrote some parts where Floor had to request for some pauses to actually breath somewhere. She spoke about it on some interview.

Sound engineer here. That effect on Floor's microtonal vocal part was some reverb, giving it that little echo-y effect. You can change the amount of reverb you put on the effect, this one had a very light touch of it, but enough to be able to hear it and give it that kind of creepy, siren-y sound. Also so glad you realized it was Floor doing the growls! There really is nothing she can't do.

Agree. The reverb probably has a slightly longer decay on it it which will give it a longer trailing effect .

Great to hear from the tech folks! As repetitive as a lot of reactions videos are, we never hear from the unsung heros. Tank is good for production and stagecraft. But we never hear from a sound person. I would love to just see a video about what you al are doing during a concert. Then analyze a song for its engineering techniques. Nightwish engineers are the magic gnomes of the band. None of these videos would be so popular without the brilliant work you do getting all the parts so perfectly balanced.

I do miss AF and Revamp, but Tuomas has been, as usual, composing masterpieces. I just wish there were more that used her high registers... They give me chills.... Soooo good....

The contrast could not get bigger. Floor singing Shallow and “angry” Floor singing and growling Empty hope. At the same Wembley concert Floor also sings Poet and Pendulum. So devil vs angel🤫 Besides that: Empty Hope is an awesome Nightwish song: the composition and keyboards from Tuomas, evil riff from Empu, epic drumming from Kai and Marco as always badass with singing and bass. Enjoy. 😈

When Floor has told being a vocal nerd no doubt she has stopped by a Mongolian throat singer and asked how to do it. Floor nor Tuomas just have not seen use to it. Yet. ; ) IMHO singing and harmonising the singing by deep growling under it like the Mongolians do sound awesome.

I hear you on the strobes. With my epilepsy, I have had to bow out on many a good time so as not to spoil it for the rest of the party. Nightwish music has become many of my most favorites, and I really enjoy these reactions and such - but I often have to watch 'to the side' of my monitor when the strobes are so intense. :)

Yeah, I’m confused how they’ll work… Marco is just… Marco. However if they find someone to take his place for the time being I hope the community won’t be mean to them. We’ve all seen how mean some Nightwish fans were, and continue to be, to lead singers… Wish we could all just be a little nicer. If Marco feels like needs a break and he wants to find himself, I wish we could all respect that and not take our frustration out on a person who hasn’t done anything wrong.

Floor has been growling since her early days in After Forever .. Age 16-28. (edit) I was incorrect. It wasn't until ReVamp that she growled.

No she never used growls in AF. Mark Jansen was the one using gulturals. She started using growls in Revamp.

@@yuriperez1221 ReVamp is what got me into Floor... and I followed her into Nightwish. Her songs there more gritty than Nightwish, and phenomenal. Who was the composer on those 2 albums?

Thats false. Floor didnt growl in after forever. She started growling in revamp. In fact there is a story where in the early days of revamp, in a Q&A someone said to her they didnt know she could growl, then she replyed "neither did I".

Thank you thank you thank you. This is the classical "Floor growl test" (as in "who does that") for vocal coaches (or people who claim to be one) on RU-vid set up by the Nightwish Army. I was (we were) waiting for your reaction to this song! I personally had no doubts, you have totally made it obvious that you are real. (I don't know anything about singing, except what people like you and Floor have told me on RU-vid...)

This is a great song. And the Live at Wembley version has much better sound quality. You picked up on Floor growling much quicker than most. PS video-Julia's demon face is very cute :D

A suggestion for breaking into another genre: "Krigsgaldr" by Heilung. It is some sort of proto-germanic folk music, wiht a language mix from modern German and English back to some ancient dialects that must have been reconstructed by archgeologists. Honestly, I don't know how these ancient languages actually sounded like.

I’m pretty sure that Floor could out-growl even a Tasmanian Devil, if she set her mind to it, lol! Julia, please please do “How’s The Heart”, acoustic version - perhaps as a double reaction (it’s not a long song) with the album version - there would be SO much for you to talk about; technique, vocal choices, etc! And ofc course it’s gorgeous ;) I’ve been waiting and hoping for you to do this, ever since you did your first NW song - because you see so much that other vocal coaches/vocalists don’t

Enjoying your videos. Your reaction video to Ghost Love Score was one of the first music reaction videos and the first I saw your comments. Since then I keep coming back, especially for Nightwish. Must say you are in my Top 3 voice coach commentators and reaction video producers. I like your honesty, when you are not sure about something and I find your reaction very genuine with well founded knowledge and understanding. You helped me to appreciate Floor as the new and most well rounded vocalist of Nightwish so much.
