I really hope they bring back Jason Griffin to do series someday, I've been seeing a lot fans saying they should recast him as Shadow for Sonic 3, and he's probably the best voice Shadow's ever had & he still sounds great to this day
I love jaleel white, jason griffin, roger craig smith, ryan drummond, jason griffith and ben schwartz are wonderful as the voice of sonic but ben sure brings the heart in sonic and humor so I can't wait to hear ben again in sonic movie 3!
I enjoy all the voices I grew up with (Jaleel, Ryan, and Jason) but for me, Jason is my most favorite and how I imagine Sonic would sound in reality. Even though I was sad how SEGA replaced him after Sonic Unleashed, I grew to become a fan of Roger and he's my 2nd favorite. And I love Ben as the voice of movie Sonic. Thank goodness they changed his design
For me, it’s Roger Craig Smith. Though he still does sound too old to voice a 15-year-old. Ben Schwartz is my favourite voice but he’s the movie incarnation and not the Modern Sonic incarnation.
@@HydraSpectre1138 Why does everybody bring up his age, nobody cares about sonic age. When you think about sonic you don't think a 15 year old hedgehog and jason doesn't sound like a 15 year old either. even sega doesn't acknowledges his age.
I have to admit, I like most of them and have a hard time trying to make a preference. It's like they had the perfect voices for each project. From White's ultimate 90's dude to Smith's sardonic version of the character in Boom, to Ben just "Deweying" it. And even the Sonic Schoolhouse one fits that version. Bad game, lousy Sonic. However, when it comes to Robotnik/Eggman, just hands down Long John Baldry. He had such a blast playing that character that he was THE reason to watch AOSTH. Though Mike Pollack and Jim Carrey are close seconds. Actually, when it was announced 4Kids was going to dub Sonic X, I had a feeling Mike would have been Eggman. Now he's the official character voice, even when they recast a bunch of them.
In my opinion Eggman's voice is the same case as Sonic's - almost every actor fills his role perfectly within the style of the product. You have hilarious Long John Baldry in AoStH, super menacing Jim Cummings in SatAM, Deem Bristow in early games kinda combining both of these performances, Mike Pollock who practically became the ultimate Eggman as much as Mark Hamill became the ultimate Joker and Jim Carrey with his great performance although voice wise differentiating from the usual. Edwin Neal in OVA was also good! The only Eggman voice that was kinda lame was Gary Chalk in Sonic Underground but it was just because all other voices were great and you can tell that all actors had just SOOO much fun playing the mad scientist :D
Fun Fact: Ryan Drummond got to reprise his role as Sonic in the 2020 audio series "Sonic & Tails R" by EmuEmi (Emi Jones), who voiced Tails. The audio series also starred Mike Pollock as Dr. Eggman, David Humphrey as Knuckles, Kirsten Candelore as Tikal, Jason Griffith as Shadow, Oliver Wyman as Big, Lisa Ortiz as Amy, and Pete Capella as Silver.
@@twilight776 Yeah but that's not about the evolution of Sonic. That's also surface level. Want some deep info? I got you... Ryan Drummond has ALSO voiced both Sonic and Shadow at some point. AND Knuckles. And Metal Sonic. Shadow is currently the same voice as Orbot in the games. Shadow in Sonic Prime shares the same voice actor as Big the Cat. Eggman's voice actor in Sonic Prime is the same as Knuckles in Sonic Underground. Sonic's voice in Sonic Prime was also the voice of Rockoon in an indie web series called TOME, created by Kirbopher known for his Brawl Taunts and Parody Rangers videos before eventually, himself, becoming the voice of shows such as Reigen Arataka in Mob Psycho 100. Mike Pollock voiced both Eggman and Ella in Sonic X. Cosmo and Charmy were the same voice in Sonic X as well. Tails and Charmy are currently the same voice actresses, Colleen O'Shaughnessy. Tails' first voice in the current cast was Kate Higgins. Kate and Colleen also voiced Sakura and Ino in Naruto, 2 rival characters. In Riders, Jet and Storm are the same voice as Sonic and Knuckles but Wave is different than Tails until Free Riders where Wave and Storm are the same as Tails and Knuckles but Jet's VA is different than Sonic's. So Dan Green voiced Knuckles, Storm AND Mephiles. But Travis Willingham voiced Knuckles, Storm and.... Zavok!! Until we got Dave B. Mitchell as Knuckles and Patrick Seitz as Zavok. Travis Willigham is also married with child with Laura Bailey, who voiced Omochao and Blaze the Cat when the current cast first debuted. The first voice of Blaze the Cat was Bella Hudson, who was that first voice of Wave. And Shahra I believe. Espio was voiced by Troy Baker in Generations and then Mathew Mercer in Forces. Mercer also fills in or takes over for Troy in shows like Naruto as both Pain and Yamato, otherwise Troy's most famous role is Joel from The Last of Us and Mercer's is currently probably Levi from Attack on Titan. Speaking of Attack on Titan, the voice of Eren Jeager, Bryce Papenbrook is the most recent voice of Silver the Hedgehog. But going backwards a bit, Gerald Robotnik's SA2 voice is the same as Vector in Sonic Heroes. Meanwhile, the voice director for the Adventure era, Lani Minella, is the OG voice of Omochao, Void, and Rouge the Bat. There's more... but figured if you liked Fun Facts, then here's a bunch that may blow your mind assuming you didn't already know them.
Fun Fact: during the development pf generations they tried to get Ryan back, but they told him he had to leave his union (the only way he can get paid) and do additional voice work for no pay
I feel like Jaleel White returning as Sonic has the potential to be good, if he did a little tinkering of the voice. Like in 3:06, that was as close as he got to Modern Sonic. Be interesting to see what he could do. Though seeing him as classic again would of course be a welcome return too if classic sonic ever comes back
Jaleel White does pre-teen Sonic perfectly. Ryan Drummond, Ben Schwartz, and Jason Griffith does teen Sonic perfectly. Roger Craig Smith does young adult Sonic perfectly.
All of Sonic's English-language Voice-Actors; 1. Jaleel White (Sonic DiC Cartoons 1993-1999) *¹ Tahj Mowry (Sonic SatAM Season 2 1994) 2. Meg Imglima (Schoolhouse 1996) *² Sam Vincent (Underground 1999) 3. Martin Bruke (OVA 1999) 4. Ryan Drummond (Games 1999-2004) 5. Jason Griffith (Sonic X 2003-2006, Games 2005-2009) 6. Roger Craig Smith (Games 2010+, Wreck-It Ralph Duology 2013-2018, Sonic Boom 2014-2017, OK K.O.! "Let's Meet Sonic" 2019, Rise of the Whisps 2020) 7. Ben Schwartz (Movies 2020+) *² Benjamin L. Valic (Movies 2020+) *³ Tim Robinson (Chip & Dale 2022) 8. Devon Mack (Sonic Prime 2022) *¹ Child Voice *² Singing Voice *³ Ugly Sonic (Unlicensed Parody)
Drummond was the best voice out of them all. He was the first, and honestly the only one to capture the true spirit of Sonic in all aspects, not just one. It's a shame that he was forced out way too soon. Shadow The hedgehog should have been the last game of the original voice cast and the 4kids era should have started with Riders or 06.
Jaleel White sounds a bit younger in his teens Meg Inglima had a raspy tone She was the first woman to voice Sonic Jason Griffith as Sonic sounds incredible Roger Craig Smith did an excellent job
My favorite Sonic voice actor has to be Jason because just hearing him as Sonic is just perfect. Although I have to give credit to Roger he does make Sonic sound more grown and stuff like that but I think Jason takes the grand prize though.
Jaleel White Seems To Be One Everyone Love As The Voice Of Sonic From The Original Cartoon Series He Does Awesome Job As Sonic In The Cartoon Series But I Also Like Craig Roger Smith And Jason Griffith In The Games Ben Schwartz Vocing The Character Too But With Ben's Voice They Made Sonic Funny And Give Him So Much Personality Which I Thought Was Great
My Favorite Sonic Voice Actors are Roger Craig Smith and Ben Schwartz I Love the Other Ones but Roger Craig Smith and Ben Schwartz are My Favorite Sonic Voice Actors I Love There Energy Yeah Gotta Go Fast 💙🌭🔵💨
I prefer Jaleel White as the voice of Sonic the Hedgehog. "I'm waaaaiiiitin'! What a couple of Dumb Bots! Happy Honeymoon, Ronutnik!" Next I think you ought to go for a Cartoon and Voice Evolution of Sonic's Arch Enemy, Dr. Ivo Robotnik. The first person to give Robotnik a voice was Long John Baldry, who is sadly deceased. "The Hedgehog's right outside my window! You did WHAT with my Egg-O-Matic?! I HATE THAT HEDGEHOG!"😂🙃
My favorite is a toss up between Roger Craig Smith and Ben Schwartz. But comparing those 2 is like comparing apples to oranges because they both work in their own right.
Former Sonic fanatic; grew up with mainly White, Griffith, and Drummond, but I dig Roger Craig Smith's sound a bit better in recent years, even if it sounds a bit too fatherly.
I grew up with the 1990s Genesis games, so this is actually the first time I've heard Sonic speak! As someone who is into voices and performing, here's my reaction to these… *Jaleel White* (2:08) I really like this voice and they made an awesome choice casting this guy for Sonic's first speaking role. IMHO, Jaleel White is the most talented voice actor here, and brings so much character and personality to the role. Andother thing Jaleel gets right with his interpretation (and is the only actor here to do this) is to give Sonic a classic "cartoon" quality - a sense of quirkiness and strangeness. And Sonic really needs that because visually he looks slightly odd, like the quirky early Disney cartoons. Unfortunately, Jaleel's voice is just way too "young", making the cartoon seem like a "baby Sonic" cartoon aimed at a younger audience. Jaleel's voice is PERFECT for that, but it's not the mature, leading figure of Sonic from the games. *Ryan Drummond* (4:17) and *Jason Griffith* (5:00) Purely in terms of style, both these two performers get quite close to the style of how Sonic should sound - with a more mature, leading vocal than the babyish 1990s one. However, IMHO, neither of these two guys have the level of talent as performers to play Sonic. They lack character, expression and drama, with no sense of genuine emotion and "heart", which is something I think they really fixed in the next one… *Roger Craig Smith* (6:02) Roger is easily My favorite overall. He has a strong, commanding, cool voice which is the best match to how Sonic looks - a hero. He's also a fantastic performer, really expressive, and it's just so pleasant listening to the sound of his voice. He has a voice you want to hear. The only downside is his Sonic is not quite "young and hip" enough. He also doesn't have much quirkiness, which Sonic needs. Basically, this Sonic sounds 100% human. Sonic should sound like a strange cartoon creature… because he is! *Ben Schwartz* (7:22) And finally, the most recent, and most different of all the voices. And I absolutely HATE this one! They might have managed to created a popular movie franchise, with a likeable character, but for me, this isn't the tough, resilient Sonic character I know from the games. To me, Sonic is supposed to be a tough, cool dude - a leader and a hero. Sonic is a dude who greets you in the title screen with a commanding raised finger and strong eyebrows. He's a creature who leans confidently forward as he goes into battle, bulldozing through any obstacle, always landing on his feet, protected by his armory of spikes. Facially, Sonic reminds me of Popeye - with tough lips and a tight mouth. Sonic doesn't need to talk very much - he carries all his expression in his eyebrows. IF he's going to speak he needs to be strong, commanding, and one of the cool kids. In contrast, the Ben Schwartz Sonic does the exact opposite - giving us a pathetic, soft, nerdy 'loser' character - the kid who gets bullied at school. This robs the character of his strength and heroism. So for me this is a 100% fail. Now I'm not blaming or criticizing Ben. The fault ALWAYS lies with the producers and casting directors who chose the performers and make all the creative choices. I'm sure Ben is supremely talented, but for me, he's just not Sonic. And there's a bigger criticism I have here which is the scripts. Since Sonic is such a cool, mysterious character, he should speak as little as possible, but these scripts have him blabbering away constantly. They feminize and emasculate the character by making him seem soft and insecure. Well, just my thoughts! :-)
Jason is my favorite Sonic voice, but I'd be lying if I said that Roger hasn't grown on me, especially with the Sonic Twitter Takeovers and his appearances in Wreck-It-Ralph and OK KO. Ryan was fine for his time, peaking with Heroes, but he was a bit too nasally and awkward sounding, and Jaleel is in a similar boat, though I do like his voice best in Underground when he added more base to it to distinguish it from his Sonia voice and his performance is more solid than Ryan's overall. On the other Hand, Ben's performance and voice for the character is good, but... it's literally just Dewey Duck again. Like seriously look at all of the "Blue Justice" lines from Sonic 2 and try not not picture 2017 Dewey saying the exact same lines. The rest don't have much going for them.
I think all the official voice actors are great. I just the hope the new one is just as good. Or they can just make Ben Schwartz the new official voice actor.
Jaleel White: Most Iconic Sonic voice Meg Inglima: no Sam Vincent: 🎶I CAN SIIIIING🎶 Martin Burke: Best Classic Sonic voice Ryan Drummond: Most Iconic Modern Sonic voice Jason Griffith: Best Sonic voice Roger Craig Smith: Most Natural Sonic voice Ben Schwartz: Perfect for a realistic Sonic
I love every single person who’s voiced Sonic except for Roger Craig Smith. I’m sorry but he always sounds so flat and bored out of his mind. Granted Sega isn’t helping matters but even Collen sounds like she fits Tails despite the crap writting, but I’m always open minded. Maybe Frontiers will be the one to finally turn me around on his voice.
My favourite sonic voice actor is Ryan Drummond, cause he reminds me of sonic himself, cool, calm, and just a guy who loves adventure, who else agrees with me?
Jason Griffith and Jun'ichi Kanemaru are my favorite voices of the characters. I especially think that Griffith works best as the most matured version of the modern Sonic
