Great lesson, thank you! if I'm accompanying myself, I would then have to include the bass note I assume? Also, what would be good embellishment's to include between chord voicing?

Yes, when playing solo, or duo with an instrument like a horn or vocals, I throw the root in the chord. The idea of voice leading with the 3rd and 7th allows you to connect the chords so the motion between voicings can be as smooth and connected as possible. Between chords, you could include single note embelishments, or add on extensions (9,11,13) to the chord you've already played.
