Music has several uses, like: 1) it can produce emotions 2) it can be a vehicle for a message 3) it can be made for getting something in return 4) it can be used for competition 5) it can be for itself, l'art pour l'art (art for art). In any case it's just a tool, and, as a knife, it can be used for good or bad. So, the music itself can't be good or bad, but the person who's making it, his intentions and deeds can be good or bad. That's why, I think, it's not even mentioned in the Qur'an, because it depends on us, on our intentions and deeds.

You're right, there is no straight verse in the Quran telling us that listening to music is haram. However, there are conditions that make music haram, for example if the song leads to doing what’s wrong or urging to do what’s haram, or causing you to neglect prayer times and worship acts, etc. Staying true to the Quran is so very right. Tidak ada didalam alqur'an musik itu haram, bahkan tidak tertulis dimanapun tentang musik ini, dan nabi muhammad tidak melarang juga tidak membolehkan, inti dari musik ini adalah jangan larang mereka bermain musik karena musik mereka rock dan cadas karena sejatinya seni adalah kebebasan.

Are you a muslim, bro? Some scholars believe that music is haram, some say it depends. It really depends on how you treat it. Well, VoB is just trying to speak up that rock or metal is associated with demonic stuff, which is not always true. The Qur'an, the first source of legal authority for Muslims, contains no direct references to music. Legal scholars use the hadith (saying and actions of Prophet Muhammad) as another source of authority, and have found conflicting evidence in it. But in my opinion, why music can tell forbidden for muslims? because many music can make us complacent and forgot pray to Allah. Literally there is other music can remind us with God existence, we can pray and praise God and Prophet Muhammad with music. is this forbidden too? VoB do that, they asking for God and Allah Allow VoB to play music. Jazakumullah
