I rewatched his work on the 1st game and he mentioned it being a lil too easy. There wasn't a comparison I caught here, and since he wanted a better difficulty experience in a sequel, I wonder how he felt about that?

I wish they would of added a game maker like RPG maker where you lay the cards, set the monster stats/attacks, and write the text. No voice acting but that's fine. This engine would be perfect for it

I reckon Square Enix should make a tabletop rpg’s like Baldurs Gate etc. They seem to have a good understanding of tabletop games and very experienced in story telling and gameplay with its ip’s.

They most likely released this one after seeing that the first one got more traction than they expected for what was seemingly an minor side project. I’m especially more glad to hear that the stories are not interconnected with each other. Will probably pick it up when it goes on sale.

I'm really digging the art style and the card theme of these games! I really hope that there's gonna be a digital or physical bundle at some point (I guess part of the question is also whether there's gonna be more games in the series), since they sound right up my alley! Just wish they wouldn't do random encounters, like just have the enemy cards show up on the overworld... Anyways, thank you for the great review!

The Forsaken Maiden is so much better than the first game in terms of story and characters. I cared about the characters and I cried as they suffered, I love this game.

I liked the look of the first one this looks like it builds on it. With them being short(ish) hopefully be able to pick them up in a bundle before long.

yesterday i noticed one of my fav devs wadjeteyegames has moved some games to the switch, very recommendable, they are very monkey island inspired in art and mechanics (not in tone tho); i hope they port the blackwell legacy sometime in the future

What is the difficulty like in the sequel? I liked the table top format of the first one but I felt like you become over-leveled too quickly and then nothing is really challenging :/

Thanks for the review. I picked up the first and will likely do the same for this one, but will probably wait a bit as I haven't actually finished the first yet (that backlog only seems to grow, and never shrink)

I initially totally missed the announcement (was there even one?), and only found out two days before launch. I also recently finally got to and finished the other VoC game, so looking forward to this story. Really glad about those small quality of life improvements and a little balancing along with new mechanics and cards (obviously). What I love most about these games are the flipside stories, which tend to be pretty dark, but also adds to the experience a lot. I especially love the music! "oh, uh, yeah- you can't cross whirlpool cards." Or "Nope, nope. Stop right there. You can't cross reef cards." The gm brings certainly liveliness to exploring the world, which does fit better with the theme than the old men, in my opinion. Both fit their setting according. Anyways, I bought both games with the dlc, mainly to support them not for the cosmetics. And on another note, one can unlock aesthetic items when one wins a game of cards for the first with each rule set in the game parlor.

Shame to any smaller titles releasing within this gaming time period. Especially since I heard nothing about a sequel! I said before that I may jump in a good sequel…but I guess I lied since hearing the consistency and slight improvements + recency makes me want a “collection” of these games in the future.

Both games are on sale right now and I was surprised at how quickly the second one was released after the first. Mostly I'm pleased that the second isn't a sequel as I'm a bit torn over how short these two games are. If they were cheaper I'd pick them both up without question, but at $21 on sale, each, I'm thinking of only getting the second one as it appears to add a good 5-10 hours of gameplay over the first and is a bit more polished. Of course...I'm still looking at the opportunity cost on these games and thinking of what else I could put my money and time towards. These would actually be better served as mobile games, but it appears that's a no-go, at least on the Android side. Drat.

Was moderately interested in the first game, but never picked it up because the price was a little too steep and I'd heard it was short. This game looks like it improves on the previous but is still at that slightly higher price point than I'd like. Coming off the back of Horizon Forbidden West and Elden Ring, I'll probably just put the two of them on a wishlist and wait for a sale. Even at $20 each I'd be happy to pay that.

The thing all these dice/card-based games miss is the ability to throw the table in the air with unstoppable rage and swear your lungs out when you roll a bad one. It is a core mechanic of board gaming in real life. Until game developers understand this they will never be able to create a good tabletop videogame, no matter how hard they try, I'm sorry.

Its really not worth the money not ever really a card game The first one was horrid... You gain no unusual cards all are perdicted and repetitve SE could had done better But then make a second?? Should be 10 to 15 dollars 20 is to much no adventure And dont think flipping every game board card will get ypu anything.. Waste of time Waste of money Sorry to say SE I love yals games but Really?? This?? Smh...
