It most definitely is not lipped the entire performance, but there is a couple places where it is. Mostly where she gets into more engaging choreography. She probably wouldn't of lipped it if it wasn't on live television, since most times television programs force singers to lip some parts. They don't want any mess-ups.
As a singer myself, I sound completely different when I speak and sing. I sound like a mezzo-soprano when I speak but I'm actually a soprano. That's due to voice placement and breath. We don't think much about that when we speak.
It’s so cool how you’re fascinated by her voice as a music teacher bc it truly is an amazing instrument people take for granted since she does pop music. She has improved a lot with her enunciation and her technique too. Ari could still work on it and sharpen her tool but she’s so good as is definitely in a league of her own this generation
I love your reactions. You're probably the best and the only from all vocal coaches / teachers that explains us what the artist is doing and how it all works and I actually learn a lot from you so I appreciate that
Right now I've just been trying to do reactions to stuff I haven't heard before. When I start doing things like Beyonce I'm gonna have to be super upfront that I'm a stan already.
yeah like i like that guy tristan’s videos but i feel like sam knows more about what he’s talking about and doesn’t keep saying the exact same things over and over
him and tristan are probably the most reliable voice coaches on youtube i’ve seen! such passions for singing and music, and so much positivity! it’s hard to give out amazing constructive criticisms to the singers without fans coming at them! definitely gonna watch more :))
I honestly can't stand Tristan. He's too petty and unprofessional, and his reviews of performances often borderline on bullying. I used to watch him but I got tired of him tbh. But I'm so glad I going this channel, he's super professional and I love his personality.
I'm so happy I found you. I've been looking for reactions to singers by vocal coaches to learn more and to know if what I think about them (vocally) is correct, but all I can find is "vocal coaches" who don't really know what they're talking about. You're amazing. The way you analyse everything and all you notice on the little details show that you actually are a vocal coach. Please keep on doing these videos, you're amazing. I'll be watching them 😊
Esther Akampurira Tristan pisses me off sometimes, and his voice isn’t all that great for him to be talking about everybody else. “He was like the mic rubbing on the mic and no noise proves she lipped this one part” but when I watched her hair never touched he front of the mic only the back.. he thinks he knows it all, cuz he studied it..
I just can't stand how he just reacts like a normal react channel would most of the time but markets himself as a vocal coach who gives insight in people's singing. Like, I come for a reaction to Ariana Grande's singing so I know how she pulls off her singing and all he says is "yes, slay" like ??? I'm glad I found this channel. Much more focused on giving real information.
If you’re interested in someone similar to Sam who provides really good information about how the voice works, you should check out Tara Simon. She does a good job explaining how vowel sounds change tone and resonance.
Yeah is so good seeing someone actually enjoy something, he smiles through the video and its probably fun for him to react and teach us. There are a lot of youtubers - in and outside of the singing section - that arent the most passionate about what they do and take it more as a job and that can get tiring. He just seems to enjoy singing and teaching and having his little own channel. Im not the best singing and have 0 idea of what it is about but watching him just makes me warm, i actually like learning something here. ♡
Sema Ibrahimova I seriously love when he smiles because he just loves a note they hit, like its so cute!! You can really tell he has a passion for music. ♥️
Love these videos, it’s so nice to see someone who actually knows what they’re talking about rather than wanting to just pick apart every error. Plus, he’s so adorable
Ink King no its not shes just that talented it wasn't lipped because you can hear her breathing through the mic the whole time and she switched up the lyrics and change the tone or however you say it
Astro That doesn't mean it's not lip synced. Jason Derulo use to prerecord his vocals live and lipsync them and sometimes breathe into the mic to make it seem more authentic. Justin Bieber use to do the same. This is obviously lip synced. Slow the video down u will see on some parts her mouth doesn't match the words. Watch tristan paredes video he slows down and video and proves it!
Astro No it wouldn’t. It was pre recorded. She’s not lip syncing to the original, she obviously sang the song before the performance and lip syncing when the performance started
Wow! Your face at the minute 2:39 is priceless, that’s the face of a professional person who’ve recognised the real talent. I love your video. New follower
Hey! It'd be amazing if you checked out the duo Akmu/Akdong musician. They're a brother sister combo, where the brother composes songs and the sister carries a lot of the vocals. People are calling her the princess of YG due to her amazing vocals. It's really cool to see their charm since they aren't known for their looks but their very charming songs and vocals. It would be cool for you to check out iu too, who was considered the princess of korea or child of korea due to her songs and vocals. Better yet, both of them. I'd check out: eyes nose lips akdong cover, suhyun's akmu, AKMU SOOHYUN VS IU - HIGH NOTES BATTLE. That's be great. Thank you :)
When I hear vocal coaches react to singers I’m like *eye roll* . But you really know what your talking about , If i was looking for a coach I’d go to u. Your awesome !
Quite literally the best RU-vid rabbit hole I've ever fallen down. I love how genuinely passionate you are about music and music education. You are the very definition of constructive feedback. You are too pure for this world, Sam.
TheatreofSymphony I wish I could press like on your comment 1,000 more times. Florence is my all time fav, One of the bests singers ou there right now! 😍😌
Before yesterday (when I stumbled upon then started binging your videos) I had no idea singing was such a complex skill. I figured you were born with it or you weren't. I have such an appreciation now for anyone who puts themselves out there in this way!
@Rara Cat please rephrase that, as a person that was deeply affected by his passing it sounds wrong, but yes unfortunately he took his own life. Sorry if I sound rude, I take it seriously and personally
Hey Sam, just discovered your channel and I couldn’t be more excited. As many people say in their comments, it’s great to find someone who really can talk about music. In your videos you answer a lot of questions I ‘ve always wondered about voice, I used to play viola and piano for almost 10 years and ended up realizing how ignorant I was about this. Especially, I’m thankful for your respect and sweetness when you talk about the singers, it’s more than we could ever ask for. Thanks for your work! ♥️
This is my favorite performance of hers to date! She’s come so far from her days on Nickelodeon. Thanks for the insightful breakdown of her vocals, so interesting!
Omg yes Tension is her biggest problem it blocks her suppot, it makes her sound nasal and tired. If u compare her from her Broadway days u would see huge diffrents
Ariana has been super consistent vocally especially with her recent few albums. Her voice is amazing and still super controlled with great technique. I love her and I love when professionals acknowledge her skills.
I'd love to hear you analysis of her Sweetener tour rendition. A lot of alternative notes, and she changed the whistle tone beautifully. This one is a lot more similar to the album version, but the Sweetener your version is it's own. So lots of change to analyze.
I really like how you point out consistently when people are doing physical dancing/movement and how that affects their singing. I think sometimes people are too critical of people's voices without taking into account that it's live and that they're dancing. It can't be easy!
I'm always excited to see many talented people working together. Like in this video. Actually many 'good jobs' in one place! However, for each of them I still have small questions. For each, with one exception - yours. Sam, you are the star. Definitely. Happy to stay signed.
I like how everything you constructively critiqued was everything my voice coach told me to work on today. You have a world of knowledge, I can tell. 🙌🏼
I love the way you listen to the whole sentence before giving a comment. Not just stop the moment she hits the note. And also love your professional + positive thoughts. #absolutely subscribed
She has incredible vocal talent. I wish she'd enunciate more clearly, but that may just be me. By the way, I just found your channel last night via your reaction video to Disturbed's The Sound of Silence, and now I'm bingeing. Thank you for being so informative and so positive and enjoyable to watch!
It's a style. She doesn't really have to pronounce words more clearly. It's a choice. One you don't like, but still, it's a part of her style of singing.
It’s amazing listening to professionals such as you. And every watcher could see how you really feel about singers you react to just by looking at your face. Really enjoying your videos and they’re all very educational :D
ariana is really talented. her technique is much better now on belts and lows, she supports consistently C5/C#5 and G3/G#3 at the sweetener tour. i disagree with the people that compare ariana to young Mariah and Whitney. Mimi and Whit had very good technique (infact they were star rated),while ariana has passed from B- to an A+ technique, that is pretty admirable. conclusion : we don’t have to compare singers to other singers and ariana is talented.
I think shes working on her technique. Since she supported a few C5's and a short C#5. She also said on insta that shes worning on her singing so lets hope she gets C5 and C#5 in her consistent supported range
You and Tristan are amazing! I like to sing from time to time. Being in women's choir for four years presented my love for it and simply just doing it for fun. I wouldn't mind jumping back into it though and watching you guys keeps my understanding of vocal techniques from going away. Now, I just need to get my ass back into sight-reading (solfege, I think that's its professional term) lolz
You said it looked live, is there way you can tell? I sort of go on sound, like how they're breathing into the mic. Is there signs in the neck or anything? I swear I learn more from you than in your videos than I ever did in any music class. I think you should check out GOT The Stage by GOT7, specifically the stage called Sick. It shows the 4 vocalists of the group and I've seen you mention the veins in necks in previous videos before and can see their necks as they're singing (maybe that sounds weird, I don't know?). More specifically Youngjae, who is the main vocal. If you do decide to check it out, he's the second one from the right or the one that tends to open his mouth up wider than the others when he sings. If it tells you anything about the bad music education that was given, I was always under the impression that when the vein in your neck stood out while singing just mean you were being really intense, not that you might be going for a note that might be difficult or something.
Most of it is does the way their mouth look make the vowel that I'm hearing. The more you listen to voices and watch how they are moving you can kind of empathetically feel what they are doing. If that doesn't match up I get suspicious. With this one it was not perfectly processed. You could hear her breathing and stuff. Then at the end she laughed and it was still amplified at the same level. I don't look at that vein as ALWAYS a bad sign, it will show up for basically anyone if you sustain long enough. If it's ALWAYS engaged, and ALWAYS bulging all the way, I like to check if it's causing any problems.
1. If the perf has good system, the mic usually has echo and it does unnecessary sounds. 2. It sounds that it has breath. 3. It sounds diff. From the track ofc 4. Some use prerecorded but they kinda use it again and again so if it sounds similar to each other it is lipsyncing 5. Watch the lips. Hope it helps !
everyday your subscribers are growing. so happy for you, but then you are one of the few vocal coach that really break down a performance for us to understand. thank you and keep it up!
Is it an unpopular opinion to find Ariana very impressive live, but find her recorded music kinda lacking?? No hate, I think she is amazingly talented. It is usually the opposite with artists: their recorded, 'radio ready' tunes are bomb, but their live stuff is lacking. With Ariana, the full scope of her talent is displayed live. I will always stop to watch her performing anything live, even on talk shows, but when her music pops up on the radio, I usually click off. It is less her recorded voice and more the over-producing and flat tracks imo. I wish she would go en route Celine Dion or old school Mariah (Adele even) and really belt one out for recording, with more classic or subdued tracks. Maybe I am just old school. Please don't come for me lol.
Her recorded albums are too bubblegum pop/R&B to not be overproduced, but her live singing, like her Aretha tribute was bomb! Wish she did more soul! And no worries. I feel the same about many powerhouse vocalists. I never listen to Demi Lovato's or Tori Kelly's studio recordings. They don't do their voices justice.
An Ariana song a bit more on the classical side might be Jason’s Song. It’s written by Jason Robert Brown (he did the music for Parade, 13, The Last Five Years), and it’s one of my favorite Ari songs that shows her talent. Definitely recommended!!
I honestly agree. I had no idea how great her vocals are until I heard her sing live. It was actually a little shocking for me to hear after not paying her much attention
Her music has no appeal which is sad because her voice is really amazing. I will never take her seriously as an artist unless she makes a song that is on par with what we associate Mariah and Celine with. I get that her fan base is mostly young girls but that’s all everyone is going to see her as.
Litterally when he said "is this the last supper or something" I at the exact same time thought "hey it looks like the last supper painting" holy crap I get it😂😂😂 GOD is a woman😂😂😂😂😂 ahahhaah nice one Ari
It’s so clear you love teaching. Definitely your gift. So good at just teaching and informing people of facts without being “emotional”. If that makes sense. Just simple facts which is so nice to watch and listen to.
I just found your channel and you are so good at explaining the little details ! So informative 😊. Definitely subscribing to you now 😋. Also, could you please react to the live vocals of Little Mix? 😃
You are the best vocal teacher/coach on RU-vid. You are a *REAL* professional unlike another RU-vid vocal ‘teacher’ who literally has musical knowledge of a kindergarten student... Everyone, subscribe to this person! 😇
I like this guy so much! He talks like a real pro and idk I can just see in his eyes that he is a good and genuine person. I love the way he talks and also the random piano notes thoughout the video 😂❤
"The Last Supper". You know what, that's exactly what that one scene looks like. I don't care for the vid. Don't like how they misuse God's name. I'm just here to hear your analysis. 😍
Omg as a serious vocalist and daughter of a voice and choir teacher, I am so fucking excited to have found your page! Love what you said about her constant breath and her dancing, she has improved this so much recently and this performance was gorgeous :) Excise me while I binge all your videos now...
