I borrowed Canciones de Mi Padre from the local library and agree with many others that have commented on La Cigarra. What she is able to do in one breath is amazing, especially since it's all in tune. She has command of her voice and a joy about her when singing these songs.
Always had a crush on her since when she started in pop rock. La Cigarra is my fav Mexican song that she did. Really shows off her crying style and perfect vibrato.

In High School, I was always called Whitexican, Half White half Mexican. There were plenty in California. But we all got along. There was some racial tension only by a few.
Linda's Spanish albums have brought my girlfriend and I together greatly. I was born in Colombia but was adopted and raised in America. My mom raised me on Linda. My girlfriend was born and raised in Mexico in Aguascalientes. These are the songs she was raised on. When I put this on, it blew her away. To hear her people's music sung in such a powerfully beautiful manner than only Linda can pull off, it was a beautiful moment to see her experience. When I met her parents for the first time, I bought them both of Linda's CDs. I DEFINITELY impressed them. -- I wish I could thank Linda for the joy she's brought my life. Rock, RNB, opera, Spanish....there is nobody better than her.
OMG Andy! Linda is the best in any language and you need to keep reacting to her. Thank you so much. Listen to La Cigarra, Los Laureles. She sang those on SNL and even the Grammys. Don't forget her duets with Aaron Neville and even back in time with Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton. Whitney's I will always love you is based on Lindas version not Dolly Parton's. Check her new documentary which was released a couple of months ago. The Eagles were her back up band before their breakthrough. Go figure.

I love her, she sings better than a lot!, with mariachi , her álbum name was “ las canciones de mi padre” . And her pronunciation was perfect . I am mexican! Her great grandpa was married to an a mexican-american woman.

I have watched the entire "Canciones de mi Padre" performance several times and it is truly mesmerizing even though I don't speak or understand Spanish. Linda Ronstadt nailed the Mexican singing style and of course, she had the pipes to pull it off but it takes more than that. There are Mexican singers with great voice that don't really master the genre, cof,Luis Miguel, cof. I think only Linda Ronstadt and Rocio Durcal nailed and mastered the genre and also cashed on it. You still need to react to Lucha Villa, another queen of rancheras and Estella Nunez, who could sing anything. Estella also does this song. Try Estela with Odiame or Aires del Mayab.
Lola Beltran, Lucha Villa, and Linda Ronstad are really special when it comes to singing rancheras. There are other singers that sound good but not like these 3. What's amazing is that Linda took a shot, (coming from singing other music genres - in English), and did it so so well. She did 2 Rancheras records, (with Mariachi), and one with Orquestra "Frenesi". All 3 are great. I'm pretty sure she could've been one of the greatest spanish singers of all time had she recorded more spanish music. She was great at everything.

Linda has stopped performing since getting worse with Parkinson disease. I hope she knows she will always be in our hearts as we continue to appreciate her beautiful voice.

Loved her English music back in the day! From what I remember, this Mariachi band is #1in Mexico, yet they didn't want to accompany her because she never sang in Spanish. So she trained and auditioned for them, well, the rest is history! She was so so awesome!!

Most folks know her from her Rock/Pop days, but she is so much more than that She did a number of albums of 40's and torch songs with Nelson Riddle. But she also did Broadway and Mexican canciones. I already suggested you try to find and react to Linda singing Poor Wandering One from Pirates of Penzance (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RfjAJn4SC-w.html) but you also MUST listen/react to her singing El Crucifijo de Piedra (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZDhCm5UcUU0.html) BOTH of these are mostly unexpected of Ms Ronstadt (if you have not followed her musical journey) but will BLOW YOU AWAY. Linda Ronstadt is one of my favorite female singers of all time. But I never knew she sang anything outside her genre. 😮 The power and vocal range are insane.
