me gusta mucho tu canal, se ve que realmente disfrutas oyendo a estos cantantes :) pero me encantaría ver tu reaccion a algun "cantante" de Trap music como Bad Bunny, XD sería muy divertido ver tu reacción!! :D
Anyone who doesn't appreciate this magical performance is tone deaf. That was magnificent. She was very sick and Richard wasn't there for her to lean on as he usually was. But she was always a strong lady who persevered through all of her struggles. She deserves every little bit of praise that she is given.
Let's face it. She had a stratavarius (to the nth degree) in her throat and she was a virtuoso at playing it. She is a gift like no other. There are many wonderful singers but there will never be another Karen. Whatever produced her has my undying awe and gratitude
It's so nice to see someone really appreciate Karen's talent and get so emotional watching her perform. Thanks for this reaction - gonna look up more of your Carpenters reaction videos.
I first heard this song in college 1970 or ‘71. Froze me! I can still see exactly where I was to this day. And it almost brings me to tears to hear her sing this song. Or ANY of her songs. Andrew she is without a doubt one of America’s greatest singers ever IMO. You know greatness when you hear it...Barbra, Celine, Whitney, come to mind...but Karen walks right beside all of them. God bless Karen Carpenter-May she Rest In Peace-oh how I miss her! Merry Christmas, Darling! And thanks for such a wonderful review, Andrew!
Honestly, not just America. The whole world. I truly believe a gift to the whole of humanity for such a short time. I’m saying this as a 40 year old guy who sings for a living and who wells up just as soon as I hear her truly once in a millennium voice. Just in awe of how much talent both she and her brother had
Love the Carpenters. I grew up with them! Karen is a perfect pitch! I think Karen is one of the best singers that just melts your heart... I was in HS and just love her songs! Her songs just brings warm memories , My first innocent crush and I. Our theme song was “ Close to You”. So how can I forget the Carpenters?
Her distinctive voice was velvety, gorgeous, mesmerizing. Blessed with a rare, natural, three octave range to her spot on pure contra alto voice, that she was in complete control of, it simply gets no better than this. She matched it with genius inflection, masterful breath control, and a tone like the voice of the angels themselves. She was a supreme master at her craft. AND she was a kick butt songwriter, drummer and musician! I wasn’t even born yet when she died, yet it always makes me a little sad to hear her, knowing what her fate will eventually be. Such an immense, rare talent, whose life was cut way to short, indeed it is not Christmas without Karen. Like Prince, Whitney, MJ and Amy, there will never be another Karen Carpenter. At least we have these recordings, and can visit with her every Christmas.
Her voice in lower tones, deep tones,is fantastic, very nice!the best singer of all times. I have many cds and records. She is the best singer ever. All over the world .
I love how you really get into analysis of Karen's gorgeous voice. I get emotional every time (and it's been many) I hear this, and especially here getting to see all of her facial expressions and lovely mannerisms.
Karen was amazing! Simply incredible. It's so terrible that she passed away so young, but she was/is probably one of the top 5 female vocalist of all time.
@@Davey7358 I *could* be wrong, but I believe she is actually singing live here. The way she's holding the microphone so close to her mouth and the way she looks like she's concentrating says that to me, anyway.
It goes without saying, this is Live. The giveaway moment was her last phrase at very end when she sang, "Happy Christmas Brucieeee" LoL. Those familiar with the song know the phrase goes, "Merry Christmas darlinnnng"
I was looking forward to reactions to this Karen live performance. You said it all Master: Karen Carpenter didn't need playbacks. That's why I love her voice, more than other singers. This is Karen Carpenter making a solo appearance on Bruce Forsyth's Big Night, which aired on December 24, 1978. In 1978, Richard became addicted to Quaaludes, which he had been taking under prescription in increasing doses since the 1971 trips. Richard refused to fly to the UK for a TV appearance on Bruce Forsyth's Big Night, realizing that he had a serious problem, so Karen performed without him and denied rumors that the pair would split up. At the end she makes a joke singing: "Happy Christmas Bruce" referring to the presenter Bruce Forsyth
Best singer eveeeeer!!! I love that you also reacted to Lila Downs as Well as Karen ❤️❤️ both are my favorites and Ioved your reactions at both 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰 thank you!!!!!!
Oh, beautiful. Brazilians would love see you react to Ana Carolina feat Seu Jorge ( É isso aí). Their voices are so amazing. And the song is so so lovely.
She is my favorite female vocalist. My teenage years... Please react to Park Hyo Shin from South Korea. Probably the best male vocalist in Korea. This is a compilation video of several of his hits from his early years. He's has a great time to his voice. A really exceptional singer. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-az70e-LRsyg.html It's a long video but the songs flow together. This is from Sketchbook which is a tv show showcasing singers. He has been singing for 21 years, and us know for his ballads and emotional songs.
Querido Andy me gusta mucho tus videos, pero lo que mas me gusta es la reacción que tienes al escuchar la cancion,😍pero ahora con los subtítulos no puedo verte,🙈aun asi continuo viendo el video, take care😷
Her singing talent was innate as she had basic formal training, given an angelic voice she just naturally knew how to use it. I so wish Karen could have seen her own natural beauty, even in her early years she was always a beautiful girl. Will forever marvel at the perfection of her voice and the expertise Richard had in arranging.
I love your heartfelt reactions, Andy, and your analyses. Your authenticity is shining through the computer screen. Please do more Carpenters. I truly like the details you point out about her voice, and about the instrumentations. How about "Close to You"? Also, it would be wonderful to see you do a reaction to Bee Gees' "Too Much Heaven." I put the link below. I think it is heavenly; I wonder, would you have the same opinion? :) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nREV8bQJ1MA.html

No it's not difficult to be in control Andy the lyrics just roll off her tongue and she does it effortlessly I think you said that it didn't you now put her back on and let her finish this Christmas song no buts about it
Professor, could you make a reaction video to the song "México lindo y Hermoso" by Vicente Fernández, from the new album 2020 "A mis 80s". He would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

What now you're telling us that Karen is a Karen no she's not she's a delightful young woman with the greatest voice in the world I feel sad that she couldn't not find someone to love her and that man that she took up with took advantage of her she had to pay him off 1 million dollars to get rid of him I would have treated her a hell of a lot better and I would not have asked for any money from this beautiful girl but oh well that's me just saying

karen carpenter was a one-of-a-kind talent. her distinctive voice was like honey -- so natural, effortless, magical. timeless, and priceless. the carpenter's "christmas album" was a collection of great songs, with beautiful arrangements by richard, and of course, the angelic voice of karen. i grew up listening to their music, and hearing their songs brings back beautiful memories of simpler times.
She had a adorable voice, pretty deep and diaphane as water. There is a video which she sings along Ella Fitzgerald and I wonder if you could make a future analysis of it😊 Thanks a lot.
Hi Andy, I feel like I’ve written to you but I don’t see it here. RU-vid brought this episode around to me again. I’ve seen it, I checked it. If I’m repeating myself, I apologize. Maybe you had a Short of this episode? This song is my favorite Carpenters Christmas song and I’m not even of that faith. It’s just an iconic rendition. During the season everyone and their cousin takes their shot at the song. Most are, nice try keep practicing. Once in awhile someone is decent at it. Then last October RU-vid introduced me to Tori Holub. Not with this song, I learned about it later. I was already getting the goosebumps aplenty catching up on her Short videos. Then I found, thanks to a reactor I asked to listen to a different tune. She found this stash of three songs Tori recorded in 2022. Including MC, Darling. Well, my head totally exploded on this one. No one has ever ever been so close. You realize something special is going on with the opening line. I’d love to hear your take on this rendition or if you want her natural voice she recently recorded Georgia On My Mind and she don’t sound like Ray, nor Karen on that one. I’m sure you can tell, no autotune, no pitch correction. A pure Alto voice. Both of these songs were professionally recorded. The Shorts are self produced at her home. I’ll use a keyword search as links just fail for me. Oh, for MC,D there’s a Short on her I G channel showing her in the studio laying down the vocal, A Capella. Just add Music to her name for that channel. Thanks for your time. Joe Tori Holub Merry Christmas Darling Edit: Wow Andy, I just went over the comments. A lot of very rude people. I’m sorry for them. You don’t deserve that. I came back to say that and that “Brucie” was the host of the show she was performing on. Bruce Forsyth (sp.?) It was a popular BBC show of the day and this was their holiday show. Also Richard wasn’t there, discussed in the full show, he was home nursing a “flu.” He was in rehab at this point. I believe the music was canned and the mic for Karen was hot. Still, a live rendition of the song. 💖
Now Andy when she starts sounding real good and you get really excited don't stop the song let it play through we already know that she is a beloved adorable beautiful woman
I agree with you 100% on everything you say about Karen. Her voice is just so soothing. No one ever had a more soothing voice. Big thumbs up (#9) for this reaction video. If your doing Holiday song video's check out Linda Eder either "Bells of Saint Paul" or "Do you hear what I hear" The do you hear what I hear she put a Lion King sound to it. Of course she did this before Lion King came out.

@@MasterofVoice I have been a big fan of Linda Eder since she was on star search in 1988. Another amazing female voice people just do not know about would be Gerphil Flores.
The only voice that can Trimble me and stop me from whatever iam doing... im a man, and i will trade anything i have just to have her voice. i hope i don't sound stupid. i just love her then & now and for me she's is in a league of her own, a masterclass of her own, and she stand alone in that category forever...💜💖❤
She did let some of her chest voice slip out there on the word "you," just before the sax break, but it sounds beautiful. She's singing this mostly in the 1978 version style, where she doesn't use her chest voice, except for at the very end with the word "you." In the 1970 version she uses much more of her chest voice, which makes it sound sadder.
Karen is the only vocalist I can think of, off the bat, that can change the mood of a song simply by changing the tone in which she sings it. There are also two versions of "Top Of The World," the hit version, in which she uses more of her lower register, and the other version, in which she doesn't dip down as far with her voice.
I didn't realize there were 2 versions of Top of the World. I love her lower register... ❤ Gonna check out those videos to see the difference - thanks again 👍
Great review, I absolutely agree with all your points. I have heard this song on the radio every Christmas season but for some reason, it never really struck me how beautiful her voice is. It's absolutely breathtaking and sends shivers throughout me every time I listen to this song. Merry Christmas everyone!
NO WONDER.,SHE'S AN ANGEL..AND ABOVE ALL THAT...,SHE'S MY LADY,MY GIRLFRIEND AND MY WIFE..SORRY IF I DREAM ALOT..THIS 21 YRS.OLD GIRL IS VERY INLOVE WITH HER...I LOVE YOU KC FOREVER YOUR MY LADY.
anyone with a soul can see, that karen was the ULTIMATE vocalist who sang to you not at you and greatest storyteller as she LITERALLY acted out the song not only with her once in a 2 lifetimes voice but her expressions and mannerisms.. that is what makes her (along with the most perfect diction and enunciation of every heard by any male or female singer/vocalist) in my opinion the greatest female voice of all time in regards to love and romance songs and yes christmas songs as well...

If you notice the lack of background singers,, this is not a lip sync cover of the recorded version as the T.V. performance with her in front of the house with the fake snow.
I love her. This performance must be a little bit later in her career. I feel like , even though she still sounds great, the voice is a little bit less rich and deep, and not as strong. Her tone has been replaced with kind of a brighter and thinner tone. That is not bad at all. I’m just noting the difference, maybe it’s a sign of her illness at the time. Her phrasing is unbeatable though.
There are two versions of this song: the original 1970 version, which she sings in a lower tone, making the song sound a bit sadder; and the 1978 version, in which she sings with not as much depth, sounds less sad, and you get more of a longing feeling. In this video, she is singing in the style of the 1978 version.
