Just got one of these for my singer. The best thing so far is that we dont have to rely on a lazy soundman to switch the vocal effects. The singer can dial in the entire set and control all the effects himself. Great product!
i love this machine, i have only used some of the vocal effects customized. Can't wait to explore more. Nice fun piece if you like to have fun with friends and family doing karaoke or creating your own songs. If you don't care to use a computer this is the way to go.
I just purchased one and I love it. The option of having the unit run on 2 9 volt batteries would be great. Some times I sing outdoors and electricity is not around or just a simple set up process.
TC-Helicon I just purchased your (MP75) microphone that works with it, and I saw your video on how to use the device when recording to computer via USB. This looks like it will not only be fun to use, but fun to play with. Keep the products coming.
It has internal mics to listen to what your guitar (or any ambient sound) is playing without having to plug it in. So if you're at practice or live, it listens to what everyone is playing - which everyone SHOULD be playing in the same key (do not confuse key with note). It figures what key you are in automatically without the need for an "alternative external input" telling it what key it should be in. There is also the option to set the key manually.
I have a couple Acoustic Plays and my drummer has bought Voicelive Play to sing through. We like to set the keys to stick to a patch (C Maj2) for example, which in the Acoustic Plays seems to save just fine, but with the Voicelive Plays we can't seem to get this to stick. For example, we have set the up/down functionality to 'set key' which it allows, but each time we access it again, its picked some random key and maj/min variant, even when we haven't changed the patch. Any ideas on how to lock the key?
Hey thanks for sharing these videos! I just bought one of this units at Guitar Center and it really has improved my vocal abilities! I am new at TC Helicon products. The efxs are great and very easy to use, custom-Editing programming is a piece of cake! There are a few things which will make this unit better such as having an On/Off switch rather than having to unplugging The power each time and perhaps adding 1/4 phono plugs outputs, the XLR stereo outs are fine but since i too intended on using it for recording purposes usually computer sound cards are not compatible With XLR connectors...So i had no other option than to run to Radio Shack to get all that i needed to make my own cables.Other than that is a great vocals investment. I am working on a new álbum and all vocals will have the use of this unit.
Hi Exavier, glad to have you aboard! The unit is designed to be unplugged so that's why we don't have a switch. Our units are typically geared towards connecting to pro audio gear that very rarely uses phono connections. Those are unbalanced and pretty easy to get signal noise. I'd suggest using USB if you don't have an audio interface. Here's a video on that: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2ZtDlAQRs8Y.html
Hey - I use the voicelive play for industrial/rock and electronic stuff. It's very adaptable. The effects are also very easy to edit so you can set up the fx blocks to suit your own taste. Might be helpful if TC featured different singers showcasing what it can do though... :)
I love TC-Helicon's I'm a Singer& songwriter I love music so much is my life . When do concerts sometime's my backup singer cant come or late with this im going sound really amazing thanks .
I have been looking for a high quality vocal processor. That gives the singer some control over how effects are used on their vocals. I have watch many videos for vocal processors and most are very dreadful. This one really does the job, I got to see and hear how it will sound if used in stereo. How to only activate the harmonies when you want them on certain parts, which gives a more realistic approach to how vocals sound with harmonies. On certain phrases and not always on which sounds unnatural. When I look at demos, I want to see them used in the application it was designed for. Great job. I think it is great it has a library of fx based on popular songs. Whether you use it or not it can be very useful for a cover band, plus the fx are studio quality.
Hi Jeff, If you have audio coming in via the Aux-In or USB or you've got the RoomSense mics set to Ambient/Auto, with the Harmony set to Auto, the Play will figure out the Key for you. It's more accurate via Aux or USB, but works well with RoomSense, depending on how close it is to a chordal instrument.
Hey, the VoiceLive Play is specifically targeted at people who are new to effects. At the same time it has enough options for the power user, to which you seem to belong. You always have the option to remove the song/artist presets manually. Also, hooking it up to VoiceSupport will allow you to import hundreds of new presets to chnage things up! :-)
The effects used on vocals are common to all genres, so you could totally use this for rock/metal. Just because a preset is modeled after a Britney song, doesn't mean the effects themselves aren't appropriate to other genres. Listen for the sound you like, not necessarily the title of the preset. Hope that makes sense!
Guys I have an issue with mine.. It seems like the whole machine works like a mic, so it feedbacks like crazy and you can hear me clicking the buttons through the signal... But it also causes for a severe feedback even when I have the mic gain completely closed.. Any ideas what might be the issue?!!
1. Download voice support software on their website (don't launch the software yet!) 2. hook up the unit to your pc via usb. Windows should automatically detect the device and install the drivers. 3. After the drivers are installed, launch the software and you're set.
I think it's on the 2nd 3rd video too that you can set - say your reverb, or your main voice to have distortion after "X" gain level. So if you want clean while you're singing one part, say a softer type verse, but as you start to get louder, like in the chorus or bridge it will add the distortion so you can still save your Hit for something else like duplicator or the bullhorny/telephone sound
I'm buying this so hard. I sing and play guitar so I'm used to shelling out cash for pedals and this is so reasonably priced for what it is. My live performances are gonna be so much better once I get my hands on this.
Nice! If you play guitar, you might want to consider a Play Electric. Even if you don't use the onboard guitar effects, the In/Thru can go to your amp/pedals. The benefit is that you'll capture the guitar chords to generate harmony without having to set key/scale.
this video is like 8 years old! and while its still great! i cant imagine there's been no software updates for it? maybe its time for an updated video??
Hi MrMissingClue, The practice mode isn't looking at a particular key, just how close you are to each individual note. The accuracy score you see is the "total" of all the notes you've sung and the displayed percentage is an average of those notes. Hope that makes sense!
I just purchased the play for myself, im a drummer so i didnt want to spend the extra 100 bucks either, but reading the manual i found out that i could run a live channel into the aux, which im doing from my mixing boards phone jack, to get the chord recognition. theres a setting inside the box for it in the setup as well
I Googled this singer: "Georgia Murray is a Canadian singer-songwriter whose 2009 song titled "We'll Never Know" was plagiarized by composer Bahnus to create the song "Swing" for Korean pop star Lee Hyori. "Swing" became the number one song in Korea on April 4, 2010." lol...
Hello! I just purchased one of these. Is there any way to mute/cancel whatever is plugged into the Aux input from showing up on the XLR Output? I want to drive the harmony with a send from my guitar amp, but don't want that guitar signal to pass thru the VoiceLive on the XLR output. Make sense? Also, on the Setup menu there is are settings for the Aux input (i.e. Live; tracks; Monitor) ... what is the Monitor setting used for?
I have an interesting problem with my unit after a couple years. It powers on, I can hear the voice come through, I can switch to differents presets and modify them. Yet the problem is it all sounds the same, its no longer modifying the input sound in any way? Anyone else have this issue? It worked well for years and now it is really just working as a pass through!
I have an issue where my guitar amp is picked up by the mic- with certain effects the guitar seems bizarrely amplified with the effect through the PA. Is there any sort of noise gate adjustment, or threshold that can be set?
Hello.. can you use a splitter cable such as 2 female to male from tc voicelive to mixer instead of 2 separate cables going left and right and 2 separate channels on mixer to achieve the stereo sound?? I only want to use 1 channel on my mixer instead of 2 for my vocal. Thank you.
HI Poppa, It's placed in a relatively "hidden" position in order to prevent accidental knocks and level changes during performance. Since these units are on the road a fair bit, we want to make sure the mic level stays put after it has been adjusted during sound check/setup.
So, yes, I'm just finding this 8 years later... Anyhow, what I'm hoping it can do is: Reverb, Delay, Harmony, Doubling and Octave (up & down). It looks like it can do most of these things but I'm not 100% sure about Doubling and Octave up/down. Thanks.
So I've had the VLP for about a year now and while I enjoy it I'm a little bummed that there's been no new presets for quite some time. I do create my own but it's pretty sweet to have some already pre-done for current tunes. Saves some work. Fun product.
The Heart of Rock & Roll: A Tribute To Huey Lewis and The News Heya, with over 1000 presets out there for download via VoiceSupport, you can definitely use lots of them across many different songs. Don't worry about matching the title of the preset to the specific song it might reference. The presets can apply to tons of different music.
Can you give me the sound settings for the song "The sound of silence"? I've tried a lot, but I'm missing the right harmony ... I'm looking forward to an answer .. I have den Play GTX ..
Hi MaadDaawg, There's no Blues Genre, but I'd try all sorts of presets to see what you like. Even though presets fall in certain genres based on the song they're built from, effects like Reverb, Delay and Harmony are common to all styles of music, so a hard rock song's effects could literally be exactly the same as a Clapton tune.
Thanks for the feedback! It's tricky to balance direct control and simplicity in a product like VoiceLive Play. I often suggest people use a Switch3 if they want to have a few effects always available in a stompbox style setup, then use HIT for combos of effects and the Switch3 for individual access.
If I remember correctly from the other vids I've watched Rock and metal are two of the Genres they have presets for, You've got your distortion and everything else too. One of the demos showed the "enter sandman" setting which was pretty cool. They made it so you can use it for anything.
Hi! Does this have a tone button or tone effect like the Perform V and other TC-Helicon products so that my voice can be compressed and EQ'd? The effects offered in this unit interest me but I am also looking at the TC Helicon Perform V. I like the idea of the perform V because it has a tone button which seems give you a nice crisp studio sound and a separate talk button (I rap so I want to easily be able to perform with no effects from time to time). Also outside of a bit of auto tune, all I really need is reverb and delay or double, another reason why the perform V interests me since I think I will have all my bases covered there. I am a hip-hop artist doing many lives shows and the biggest point of feedback that I have received is that my vocals sound dry. I don't have the luxury of having an engineer setting up my sound so I want to come to my shows with this already figured out which is why I am interested in this product.
Would the Switch 3 pedal substitute for the 3 buttons on the play? I want to keep the play within arms reach and use the switch 3 as a footswitch to trigger the HIT button.
You've probably gotten an answer by now, but just in case you didn't: The Switch3 can control looping, but I don't know if any other functions can be assigned ("mapped") to its switches. Here's something from the manual: "Note: When a Switch3 is plugged in, Key/Scale selection is automatically assigned to UP/DN .When the Switch3 is unplugged, UP/DN remains Key/Scale and will need to be changed in the setup menu if you wish to assign UP/DN back to Looping." I bought a Switch 3 with my VLP, but haven't used it yet. (Oh, no! Another Learning Curve!)
Nice video. I noticed that she sang the 5th degree of the scale as her reference note. Which means the key is B, not F. And it’s Bm. Which is why the harmonies sound strange.
Hi! Does voice live play offer the capabilities of the tc helicon Voice tone correct xt? I intended to buy a voice tone correct xt, but the other capabilities of the voicelive play are tempting.
why is it that everyone seems to be using live mics and never a studio microphone? is there something wrong with using this for studio recording or is it only made for live performances?
@MrTheKurgan I have a couple Acoustic Plays and my drummer has bought Voicelive Play to sing through.
Love it, it's just what I needed, it's handy and very powerful ! Thank you ! There is just one thing I don't understand, in the practice mode, doesn't it directly shows you in witch Key your in looking to the analysis on the left ?
Got one of these a couple of weeks ago. Fantastic unit. Quick question on setting the key in the harmony section. If you were singing a song in Em, would you set the key as E or G (Em being the relative minor of G)??
Is this unit plug-and-play to Windows 10 so that can record into my DAW (Audacity or FL Studio)? Can I plug in my phone Aux-In (for music) and USB-out to my laptop and then record both Vocal and music the same?
I'm trying to decide whether to get this or some of the Voicetone pedals. Could you help me decide? Any pros/cons on the Voicelive Play over the Voicetone pedals? One thing I know is that I want to be able to use multiple effects at once. Like reverb, hardtune, doubler, and distortion.
Hey Craig! Have a few questions hope you can answer them, can't figure it out. I just got the TC VoiceLivePlay and it works fine so far, but I also got a Helicon Switch-6, and it seems to me I can't assign the buttons properly, in setup it says Switch-3. I have updated firmware and everything but the button 1down 2up 3hit doesn't work. The reason I got the Switch-6 was to assign 6 different presets that I have modified. I want Switch-6 like this: 1. Preset 250 2 Preset 251 etc Do the Switch-6 not work with the Helicon VoiceLIvePlay or is something else missing? And, the overdrive effect don't seem to work, the vocals isn't distored even on max level. All other effects works properly to edit/configure the way I want them on my preset. Simon
Hi Simon. Switch 6 isn't supported for Play. The only Play series it works with is Play Electric. We don't have the option to assign specific presets to a Switch 3/6, but you can assign preset up/dn if you like.
Effect 7 Gorgeous Hall shows that 6 of the 7 effects are OFF. Only the Reverb is set to HIT. Wouldn't that mean when the Hit light is NOT ON, there are no effects???? THANKS for your help.
now in 2024, what to get? I formally sing,, I am not a guitarist... I play some piano, harmonica and drums.. shall I still get the VoiceLive 3 extreme, or am I better off with the VOice live play or just the 3 as those are cheaper?.. how to think now in 2024 with all tech coming out? thanks! from the Future!
Love this pedal. Had for a couple of years. Unfortunately the scroll wheel has broken no apparent reason definitely not dropped . Any availabile parts or easy way to fix ? I'm in the UK.
I know this is old, but I'll take a shot. If I'm between getting the new Voicelive play OR both the Correct XT & Create XT, what would give me a more "professional" sound and a better anti feedback response? Also, is the Tone button "effect" the same in both devices?
There is some compression added to some of the parameters of the Tone Style setting. From the manual: Tone Style - Applies varying amounts of Adaptive EQ, Compression and Gate . There are 9 styles to choose from: 1 . OFF - No Tone Style is applied . 2. NORMAL - Some “bottom”, “mid” and “air” EQ , light compression and minor gating (when the input level gets low enough, the input is muted) is applied to the signal . 3. LESS BRIGHT - Similar to Normal, but with less emphasis on high frequency EQ. 4. NORM+WARMTH - Similar to Normal, with a small “mid bump” to add some warmth to the voice . 5. MORE COMP - Utilizes the Normal EQ and Gating settings, but with more aggressive compression settings .This is a good setting to try if you have a large dynamic range when singing and want to keep your levels under control. 6 . NORM NO GATE - Removes the Gate function from the normal setting .This means that even at very low input levels, the mic is still active or “hot”. 7. LESS BRIGHT NG - The same as Less Bright, but with the Gate function removed. 8. WARMTH NG - The same as NORM+WARMTH, but with the Gate function removed. 9. MORE COMP NG - The same as MORE COMP, but with the Gate function removed.
I recently started using the voice live play to record my youtube covers. I love it! Is there a way to set up a preset to harmonize with my own voice? If so, explain please.
Eric Cole Sure, there's a couple of ways, but the easiest is to find a preset with Harmony in it and then set the key/scale to the song you're singing via the EFFECTS edit button. The section on editing effects is in the manual on pages 19 and on. Cheers, Craig
The band can transpose - you are a physical instrument and cannot without causing stress, strain and/or vocal damage in the long run. So if you plan on singing night after night for the next 30 years - treat your body and vocal chords with respect.
Hi all, is there a listing of what "Genres" have what effects applied to them? And when you go into "Effect" does that cut the "Genres" influence on the output sound? Thanks in advance.
The room sense mics don't work great in live loud settings with background noise and other instruments. Is there any way to run guitar through the AUX and shut the external mics. Please add a guitar in to this awesome pedal. And battery operated???? that would make this a perfect outdoor or small venue all in one unit.
I just got mine.. I wonder if its ok to hear a constant noise in background? The more I turn on the mic gain, the more noise I’m getting while the mic audio is not getting loud.
I notice this (very entertaining) walkthrough is from 2012, has this machine been changed or upgraded since then? It's definitely on my wishlist, number one in fact!
Did you try a cable that goes 1/4male to 1/8male to run from an out the board - or last monitor to the aux in for the iPods and such? I know no one needs more chords hanging around the stage, but it may be a better alternative to the GTX if you like this particular pedal better. The GTX has the inputs for the guitar but I don't think it has all the other cool things you can do due to the internal mics, like practice with no mic, etc.
I'm having problems with mine, it keeps saying "connect head phones" all the time. So the effects are only coming out of the headphone sockets and not my PA - any suggestions please?
I know this is an old video but... I was looking to get one of these but not sure what the differences are for vocals with the 'play acustic' version. As I also sometime play guitar but mainly need this for vocals
I just bought the Play Acoustic version and I highly recommend it. The vocal effects are the same PLUS acoustic guitar FX. Or you can simply use as guitar DI box.
Italian translation: hello I wanted to ask: I have a question for the outputs outputs left and right of the voice and its connection to the mixer in-line microphone do not know if I have to connect both L & R THE LINE TYPE: 1 E2 MIXER or as I have heard say enough a canon only left or right and put qualsivoglie, and set mono or DualMono ... and the result is the same ... I have always said that then wanting to keep the other output is possible for a monitor to return ... all right ? thanks
Cause neither the guy doing the demo or the poor girl noticed that the setting for the rolling in the deep should’ve been set to Bb Minor not F Major which is incorrect for that song when pitch correction settings are concerned!
what would be a good setting for singing STP music? Please include delay / reverb settings. Does it help to set the settings on the same key the song is performed in?
Hey Tim! Unfortunately, I am unfamiliar with STP music, but if you're going to be using Harmonies, then you'd need to either set the key you're singing in, or use Roomsense to listen to the chord progression of the music occuring in the room.
