Loved hearing the clip from your band! Our marching band was great too. We didn't have the flag wavers but we had 104 members on the field. The 16 drummers couldn't fit within our lines so they did their own routine and lines that complemented whatever the brass and winds were doing. I would have loved to hear our band do the music you were doing! For marching season, I played the bass clarinet and symphonic season I mostly played the contrabass clarinet. Not an instrument for marching.
It fits that Rob did this with them because he's a movie buff and does a podcast with his buddy called "The Avid Indoorsmen" where they talk and question one another about movies.

@@creativecrewfam Yeah, we hired a great band director my freshman year, and even tho I always loved music, he really taught me to love it more. I played clarinet or drums in marching band, contrabass clarinet in concert band, and guitar or drums in jazz band. You?
I was prepared for Geoff to do something spooky in the scary movie short, but it was Layne and his "hello, Clarice" that gave me the chills. Layne's voice is so soft and soothing and then he does that!

Yeah, I'm gonna need a full version of that marching band performance haha (it's one of my favorite songs ever) I miss my marching band days. I definitely want to start doing more marching band stuff on the channel too! Maybe soon :) I loved my HS band...we were very different and the part you saw was the only section we played that song haha...we usually had about 5-10 songs per movement.

I think you realized something. Some interested were high school choir, others are marching band geeks too. Hmm, growing up was in drama, choir & competitive marching band (back then called BOA (Bands of America finals Indianapolis) then I & others were involved in DCI (Drum Corps International) & DCA (Drum Corps Association). Your marching band is very good & like VoicePlay & Home Free do great versions of the original DCI winning shows. Sadly, the only video could find had damaged sound so if works, I'm attaching both the video & sound of their finals competition so can hear (fingers crossed) both the quality of their power sound & the skill of their marching. This is the Blue Devils in 2006. They're the most winningest drum corps in DCI (they're also a favorite of mine). They're based out of Concord Ca. Comprised of ages 14-21. By the way the sound realize they're moving producing that sound, they rarely stand still. 'A lot' of high school bands emulate them (including yours) in sound & style of costume (blue/silver). Unfortunately, many can't march like them. They also are one to experiment with presentation & music. This takes time to get the full sound & music but once it gets there shows gifted & powerful musicians. Believe it or not they scored 3rd in finals. Cavaliers who's also a favorite won that year with 'one' of my all time favorites (Green Machine). sound Blue devils: (Recommendation play full screen with headphones sound isn't greatest, then listen to the audio. I have to put mouse on music line (IDK just works that way) it's very powerful sound. The mics are in the audience in the middle of the stands not on the floor. This is Camp Randall Stadium at University of Wisconsin at Madison. Full capacity 80,321. Only one side is used so what seeing is approx. 40,161 seeing the show. Loveeeeeee DCI!!! I try to go every year here in Georgia! But, I must say that we emulate another group that is not BOA at all, but were still part of DCI (spotlighted) back in the late 80’s - 90’s.
Yes glad you're aware. Carolina Crown is based out of North Carolina & Magic was originally Georgia that moved to Orlando. YEA - Was a Cadets program spearheaded by George Hopkins (director of Cadets). Purpose, to reach out to high school bands. They wanted to expand nationwide and have marching competitions year long. Critics saw it as a replacement to DCI & removing the top 12 & pushing for schools instead of groups. It was also many believed trying to replace the few marching band circuits including BOA. [I can't tell you exactly what faltered with this program. Last checked, one of the largest marching band competitions. They have regionals cutting the numbers down to compete for the Grand National Championship (finals). They're predominantly Midwest, w/ bands from parts of the East, SW, CA & the South. The finals are based out of Indianapolis at Lucas Oil Stadium. Usually, it's around Thanksgiving. This year it's Nov 10-12th. It's hard to find any here past a certain year (2017) as there's a paid site that covers the competitions for both DCI & marching band. Flosport is the paid site.
