The Chicken Song is (or was, idk if it still is) a popular children’s song in the U.S. It has a bunch of double meanings and things that older kids and adults will find funny while also being silly enough for little kids to enjoy it. I think it’s perfect for VoicePlay’s brand of dumb!

Geoff has always had a Dad vibe for the group, even though this was three years before he actually became a dad. Kathy says he has an old soul, even when they first met and she was in college and he was still in high school. (Her dad was choir teacher for Geoff, Earl, and Layne.) There is an audio-only version of the original members (Layne, Geoff, Earl and others) performing this way back in college or maybe even high school. To recap, after encountering the rooster, the chicken is giving eggs, the cow gives eggnog, the gum tree gives Chicklets (a brand of candy-coated gum pieces), and the waitress serves cocktails -- mixed drinks supposedly named because they were originally stirred with, yes, a cock's feather. There is another version filmed by an audience member that features Paul from Toxic Audio filling in for Tony. Tony's ad libs are based on his sister. "My name is Maggie. Today's my first day. I don't think we have that." Paul's ad libs had to do with "they didn't pay me enough for this." If you care to venture to Toxic Audio, there is a musical chairs skit sung to Grace Kelly filmed by the audience when Geoff was filling in for their bass. What happens to him was not part of the script, and shows his professionalism even as a lad in his 20s. And also may be the highest note I've ever heard him sing ... though he may go higher in a few of the Elvira performances. Highly recommend you watch both. Geoff and Earl facing off in Elvira is hysterical!

I was on a Zoom call with Tony when this video came up. He said he was ‘channeling’ his sister Maggie. He also used Maggie in Pattycake’s Quarantine video. He had her saying something she had really said, but she didn’t realize they were making light of it. (That’s a funny video. You might like it)

Gum trees are tropical. Etymologically, chewing gum is indeed named after the gum that is produced by various plants, including the gum tree. It's not actually _made_ of said gum, though, just named after it, in much the same way that soda pop does not in fact contain soda; it pops because of the carbonation; but it's named after (bicarbonate of) soda, which causes a similar fizzing when combined with an acidic solution, but for different reasons.

A Gumtree is a type of eucalyptus. And the play on words here is that it gives Chiclets (chick-lets) which is a gum that was popular in the United States up until 1960 when it was discontinued. Chiclets were made from the sticky sap (chicle) from another tree. (I am really old and remember learning that in about the fourth grade😂).

I remember singing the song when I was in elementary school back in the 1960's. We had no idea what we were really singing, but we did enjoy the silliness of it all!

When I first saw this I was laughing so hard my dogs had to make sure I was alright. 😂 I've noticed a lot of reactors who are younger or not from the US get a little confused on the double meanings. We start with Chicken not laying egg, bring in Rooster and chicken starts laying eggs Then the cow not giving milk, bring in rooster and now cow is giving EGGnog Then Gum Tree not giving gum, bring in rooster and now Gum tree is giving CHICKlets (a brand of gum that I think most children used to chew, I think it's still around but nit quit as popular as it used to be) Finally we have Maggie the Waitress who doesn't want to serve drinks. Bring in rooster and now she serves COCKtails. Hope this helps. The song might refer to a SWEETGUM tree. But I don't know.
