The nurses at the 95th were wonderful. I remember the one who was at my side outside the operating room, waiting for my "turn." She kept saying that I had been in a helicopter crash and that I would be ok. That was on the night of Aug 7, 1970 and the H-46 I was piloting was shot down while attempting a medivac for three marines. My wingman came down and took me and my medivacs to the 95th. I stayed there about a week while my broken bones healed a bit before I was flown to Japan and eventually USA. But for as long as I live I will never forget the care I got there at China Beach. Bless you MaryAnne and all our fellow nurses and doctors.

My son voluntarily joined the Army at age 19 and served in Iraq with the 82nd all of 2007 during "the surge." He returned unharmed (physically) but will never be quite the same either. Like so many of us, he saw and experienced too much. That said, he is doing well now. God bless us all.

Too often when we think about the subject of war, we are too prone to forget the incredible service our nurses provided to the wounded, even the saving of lives after the battle field. Thank you for serving and thank you for still caring!

I was a 0311 Grunt Rifleman With H-co 2/5 , later a Scout/Sniper Hq-co 5th Marines Vietnam 1968/69. I was at both 1st Med, when I was wounded, & NSA when I got Malaria. I still remember the great nurses we had at those hospitals in Da Nang. I also remember the Night, I believe in February 1969 in the Ammo dump blew up in Da Nang, I was about 20 miles southwest of Da Nang, at Liberty 🗽 bridge. To the west our 5th Marines Ammo dump had been blown up which was about 8 miles to the west, and large flames and shock waves could be seen coming from Da Nang.

I was in Vietnam in 69-70 and thank all the volunteers be they nurses, donut dollies, the Bob Hope Group and many other groups who entertained many who were drafted or enlisted and ordered to Vietnam. Your services were greatly appreciated. I saw only one show by the group that sung "Green Green" song--not remebering the name of the group at the moment. All of us needed those events as it allowed the military members a diversion from the events of the war.

What a wonderful and accomplished lady. I was at Danang 69-70 with the 366th Tactical Fighter Wing. Got there the week after the Ammo Dump blew up. Was there for many rocket attacks from out beyond Freedom Hill. Was there when the EC-121 crashed on the runway. Rough times and good times all jumbled up together. When our country goes to war and only the military are affected it can be a formula for failure. For the vast majority of the population the war is only a five minute blurb on the evening news and their lives are unaffected. WWII was totally different as Maryanne says. God bless you Maryanne. Thanks for all you did over there and Welcome Home.

I have served since the early 70's in the navy, so I was deployed on a ship in the Atlantic ocean. I did go to Desert Storm, got there right after the 100 day war. We were always going crazy with work long hours and doing 6.5 days per week. Had to take 6 hours off on Sunday afternoons. Well that not never worked, most of us worked. I got back injury, most likely moving equipment from one space to another and back again. The doctors were great gave me drugs. My back was getting worse, so I got a medivac flight from Saudi to Germany, then to Texas. Very long and hurt my back even more. I thank all of the medical folks for taking care of me. Also, the Army was good they got me to the doctors, etc to get treatment/meds. These nurses and medics were awesome and thank them for their service. Hope everyone is well.

This is the first interview where, the interviewer tried too hard to dance around offending her, and his questions got lost. He wanted to ask her about her general feelings about the war, without questioning her patriotism. And, that was never really answered. *I’m not sure what she meant by saying “She’s not a “flag waiver’. But, I’d LIKE to think that she was against the Vietnam war, for obvious reasons, but she’s still proud of her country, and the direct services she provided*. Another outstanding interview.
