Really? I played the Voidwrought demo on Steam and Hollow Knight when it was free for a weekend or so on Switch. Really liked Voidwrought, but didn't click with Hollow Knight at all. What heavy inspiration do you (and many others apparently lol) see? Honestly, I see more parallels to Dead Cells, but without the Roguelike elements.

@@seseiSeki the movement system, healing system, combat system, art style and music style, as well as many of the themes presented in the game, are nearly identical, it just takes on more out of the gate dark and dreary tone. As opposed to hollow knight which takes its time to set the scene and shows off well how hallownest is a long dead and abandoned kingdom. However my criticisms with voidwrought would be that it dives into things a little too quick, ambushes you with a lot of information almost immediately and the movement system has a little bit of jank to it

@@OctozenX Thanks for your insight. Though I'd say Movement feels more fluid in Voidwrought than Hollow Knight, healing in Voidwrought is just Dark Souls. A number of "potions" that refills at checkpoints. Combat is like Castlevania with a Dark Souls dodge roll with tons of i frames instead of a backstep. About the art style, Hollow Knight uses way less colors and backgrounds look completely different. Music in Voidwrought also takes more of a center stage than the rather ambient tracks of Hollow Knight. In general Voidwrought feels more linear than Hollow Knight. Looked at some gameplay for a refresher and remembered everything from Voidwrought. The person who played Hollow Knight went into a completely different direction and entered areas I didn't see at all when I played the game. The lore dump at the beginning of a Metroidvania is pretty common. That probably goes back to Super Metroid with Samus' long Monologue or Castlevania Symphony of the Night's wall of text when starting the game and then either letting the environment do the storytelling or inserting some writing or NPCs to deliver more info.

Honestly, they have been making Silksong for so long that I kinda just accepted that it is not worth to be hyped for it. When (and if) it comes out, I'll gladly play it, but until then I'll redirect my hype to something worth of it, like this game, Crowsworn or Deltarune

To be fair, I can only see the movement as somewhat the art-style being similar. The designs definitely look different, though, which is making me all in for this and Crowsworn looks like the alternatives I'm here for, personally.

@@RedLion800 The art style doesnt even really seem very Hollow Knighty tbh, its more remiscent of Darkest Dungeon if anything, the only thing i can point to being somewhat HK-esque is the shockwaves and the spikes.

@@momentaryretrospect5967 The background design looks like Hollowknight to me with the mask doors, spike pits, etc. The only thing that looks original is the characters.
