I am a gigantic supporter of this lens. I own one myself and wish more people would invest in this underrated treasure. I does make me very, very sad to hear you are returning the lens even after understanding how beautiful the images you can take with it are. Even if it doesn't precisely fit the nature of your work there is surely bound to be occasions for you to want to use this lens again. I personally use the Voigtlander 50MM f/1.2 for street shooting and even product photography. It works extremely well for me either way. Thank you for putting up this review as I have been waiting for it for a few weeks now. I hope those who watch this video inch a little closer, if not all the way, toward at least trying this lens for a short time.

It’s not underrated...everyone shoots Leica knows it’s a great lens, many have been waiting for it before it was released.

Hi I bought the 40 mm f/1,2 VM version why because it's a between a 35 mm and the 50 mm I love the soft look it gives me. I bought two years ago a brand new Leica monochrome type 246 and have a zeiss biogon T 28 /2,8 ZM my favorite. But somehow I know it's me but I find the focus ring very aggressive or is it just me. Maybe I just use to much my 28 and have to get used to it. I more or less only use it for portraits. Why when I used it for street I somehow get to many blurry images back home. Where the 28 I nail it evetytime.

I had one for a month. Traded out to a 50 lux. It’s really a much better lens in terms of rendering for me, and it’s smaller with E46 for filtering on my monochrome. I purchased a VM 90 APO that backfocused so badly (of course it went back, replaced with a Summarit 2.4) that it make me question VM in general. Still, might get an Ultron 28 for non-Q days.

Darryl, if you haven't already, definitely try the Nokton 40mm f/1.2. This 50/1.2 was designed after the 40mm by the same team at Cosina. The 40mm is just slightly tighter than 35mm and when using 35mm framelines is very easy to approximate framing wise...

I purchased the lens and did a lot of side by side comparisons with the Leica 50mm Summilux FLE. I concluded the Voigtlander is not nearly as sharp, more CA and the focal length is noticeably wider than 50mm frame line in the RF. It’s still a great lens for the money but it’s not at the same level as the Lux.

Thanks for this video. I come back to a M camera for the third time with a M262, after a M6 and a M240, all sold for bad reasons. ⅔ of my pictures are made with a 50mm and ¼ with a 28 Elmarit (the rest with a portrait lens). I was looking for a 50 summilux, but your video leads me to think that this Voigt could be a better choice (for actually a ⅓ of the price)

I think you should take a look at the Voigtlander 35mm 1.2 ASPH II again. I have used on my m10-P and it as good as the Voigtlander 50mm 1.2 .. I have been using it on my A7rIII with AF techart adapter, works great. Just one note if you shoot on M10-P , the lens focus to 0.5 meeter and the view finder only goes to 0.7m, to use the extra reach you need the Visoflex.
@fangzhenyuinca
@fangzhenyuinca 4 года назад
Hey when you used the 50mm on M10P, did you have to use the EVF to focus or just the rangefinder?
@xyzhou6207
@xyzhou6207 5 лет назад
I couldn't help but notice slight focus shift with this lens at wide apertures, that could be one of the advantages of the current 50lux which has a floating element design. Other than that, I'm pretty happy with using it. Most of the time I'd prefer to stay at f1.4 to f8 with my m2 but if I use it with Sony, I love the dreamy bokeh at f1.2.

I usw this lens with my Leica M 10-P despite it is no my favorite focal length but this lens on the M 10 P is out of this world. Either in color or B/W it is fantastic. Most of the time I shoot at F2 to get a bit of a depth of field. There is no better combo I guess.

I personally would say don't limit yourself by stating that you're "not a 50 mil. person" too many times. There's lots of equipment and styles and photographers go back and forth. Some days I feel like shooting wide, some days I feel like being a little more tele. Embrace the range and variety.
@DarrylCarey
@DarrylCarey 5 лет назад
Thanks Hotaru, I was looking a 75mm APO yesterday ... so may end up with a few more lenses than planned :) I think you have a good point, I work with FullFrame Mirrorless cameras for work, shooting some many different focal lengths, shooting just one on my Leica cameras is very relaxing :)... Plus I have to think more about the shot.

@weisserth
@weisserth 2 года назад
An M6 with 0.58 magnification is probably not the best choice for shooting such a fast lens at that focal length. I bought the lens. I'll use it on a regular M10, an MP (0.72) and an M3 (0.92). My guess is the M3 will end up with this lens permanently attached.

I have both Voigtlander 50mm 1.2 and the laters 50 Summilux. At 1.2 there is a little helo effect going on at the edges and a smooth bokeh, it is probably a lens character you want, Stepping down to 1.4 CA and sharpness is improved. Summilux is cleaner in vignetting and CA when both lenses are at 1.4 it is real hard to distinguish them apart. Going to 2.8 both lenses are very sharp. for me there is no reason to use the Leica 50 Summilux glass on M10-P
@xyzhou6207
@xyzhou6207 5 лет назад
The biggest advantage of 50lux is the size and floating design which takes away some of the focus shift... But yea, I choose the vm50 1.2, and I'd rather put the rest of the money into somewhere else

At f1.2 with the x0.58mm magnification of the M6 it's going to be hard to get accurate focus with 50mm. Anyone tried this lens with the x0.95 viewfinder?

It’s also due to the 0.58 times magnification which is less accurate by nature than 0.72 and 0.85
