Vokse Sammen (2023)
The piece is inspired by the singers of Sankt Annæ Pigekor and their impressions of “community” (in Danish: “fællesskab”); how they experience it and what it means to them - as well as their impressions of the war in Ukraine.
The first meeting with the singers in Sankt Annæ Pigekor was just a week after the war in Ukraine began, in February 2022. Therefore it was impossible not to talk about the war when meeting.
It also felt important to create a space for the young singers to share their thoughts and impression on what was happening around them, in this new piece written for and dedicated to them.
They, as all of us, are also thinking and worrying about what was, and still is, happening in Ukraine - as well as seeing and experiencing it through among others the social medias with the photos, words and voices told and shared by even their own generation.
Furthermore, the singers were asked about what they especially value and enjoy when singing as a choir with a large ensemble.
The suggestions of the singers have been incorporated throughout the piece, in an effort by the composer, to try to listen to and enhance the young singers' voices and preferences, and become inspired by their experience and perspective.
