CORRECTION: The rock obsidian is made of volcanic glass that cools from felsic lava. This means it shares the chemistry of rhyolite, not basalt as stated in the video. A glass that cools from basaltic/mafic magma is instead called tachylite.

Great learnings! But I would like to ask what are the geological formations produced by volcanism?
@ThomasStevensontutor
@ThomasStevensontutor 2 года назад
I'll have a video about volcanic formations on the way soon! In summary, we see several different types of volcanoes, including shields, domes, cinder cones and composite cones. We also see a range of deposits made by lava flows, pyroclastic flows, lahars and ash falls, some of which can extend for many kilometres after a big eruption. This page is a good place to start reading about them if you don't to wait for the video: www.nps.gov/subjects/geology/volcanic-landforms.htm

what is about the groundwater situation, being nearer to ocean how Dunedin manage water for drinking and daily use.
@ThomasStevensontutor
@ThomasStevensontutor 4 года назад
Our water is mainly sourced from rivers just to the west of Dunedin City. There are only 130,000 people living here and the water is mostly fresh enough to drink without treatment. Other rivers in the area can also supplement water demands in especially dry periods. You can find more info here: www.dunedin.govt.nz/services/water-supply

Thomas, a correction if I may? Igneous rocks can form from magma as well as lava. Intrusive vs. extrusive igneous rocks.
@ThomasStevensontutor
@ThomasStevensontutor 2 года назад
Indeed they can! I have talked about intrusive igneous rocks here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zqLnP1RlWIE.html

Great content. Super visuals! But the audio is super distracting and is too loud to hear what the narrater is saying.

if the heaviest thing goes the lowest how come the earths core is not made of heavier matierial like gold the heaviest thing on earth and how come they cant show us a todate valcanoe erupting something besides lava rock and if the world was made by valcanoes why does all stone objects date differant when the all made at same time all the rocks they showed were lava rolled on the ground and it picked up rocks

There are three layers in the earth it is crust ,mantle and core we are in crust and the mantle lies below the crust and the innermost layer is core mantle and core is very hot as we move down to the interior of the earth temperature increases and in mantle there are some magma which is in form of molten substance when the volcanic eruptions occurs the magma and minerals will come out and the magma will called lava at the outside of the interior of the earth and when lava is cooled down and solidified it forms ingenious rocks and igneous rocks are formed in interior of the earth also and when igneous is formed the weathering will take place in that rock after millions and billions year the ingneous rock will be break down due to weathering and that broked part will be called sediments which will be taken by rain to the rivers oceans and the sediments will be deposited their and after millions and billions years the sedimentary rocks will be formed and the last one is metamorphic rocks which is formed by the change of igneous rocks in the interior of the earth when igneous rocks are melted down by the pressure and temperature of the earth than it changes into metamorphic rocks
