A dual clutch is always enjoyable to use, and dual clutch transmissions have been around for a very long time. They have evolves with time and are much better today than when they first came out. Having said that, the automatic transmission has also come a long way. The newest generation are also very advanced, and now have lock up clutches that minimise transmission slip. As a driver, I have learnt to enjoy the driving experience I get from different types of transmission and understand there is no perfect transmission. This includes manual transmissions - not as fast as a dct, and not good in a traffic jam, but still the most fun in the right place and the right time.

Yes dunno what magic but VW is excellent in striking a fine balance of firmness and suppleness making ride comfortable (but not so soft) yet good body control (not much leaning and wallowing)

But in Malaysia, reliability n durability are our concerns. As user, I do not mind to spend money for high maintenance but not the inconvenience that sending car to workshop frequently and the worst break down on the road. If VW has the same reputation with reliabikity of Toyota here, I think VW can sell its cars like hot cake. I can not deny that golf is a nice and fun car but to own the car is totally another feeling.

Both are great to drive, but the R is more engaging to drive. The M340i is more a sporty sedan, whilst the R is high performance.

imo I prefered the M340i, which is why I bought it instead of the R. Mainly because it will be my primary car, which I will be using it a lot to commute on highways and canyon roads as well, so I need something that can do both well. The BMW may lose to the R in canyon roads by a small margin, but the extra speed and stability it can achieve on highways over the R definitely makes it more worth my money over the R. And also its a BMW, its got a better brand image than the R. So that counts in as well.

I 've bought the VW Golf 8 R Performance because the handling, steering and shifting is fenominal. I drove several cars like S4/RS4, Panamera 4S and the M3 but the Golf 8R is one of my favorites. (Only the infotainment system is soso) I"m an experienced driver but you're driving skills are really awesome!🙏🏽👍🏾

I think it was an over sensitive sensor. We never went into limp mode, and it went away after i eased off a little, then I pushed again.

I do not think so and most videos I have seen and one of the reasons why the Nürburgring mode was created, was to handle varying road conditions with tight turns, which that course contains. The drift mode, from what I have gathered in my research so far, is it basically adds a few degrees of possible "toe" adjustment of the rear wheels to help "aid" in rotation but wouldn't be a preferred method for track and racing style of applications. Drift is just basically for a parking lot, a one trick pony of sorts, a slight "gimmick" to have as an option.

@@shaglioni Mark, did some research on the "drift mode. and what it does is send upto 50% of the torque to the rear, of that 50%, it can then channel 100% to the outside wheel in a turn. Essentially "over-driving" the outside wheel to rotate the car.

Correct, however, I believe that is just also how the new rear diff works in general, as they added a clutch pack that aids in that new AWD configuration. So if one is in race mode or nurburgring mode, that is how the rear diff would function regardless.

The two cars are very different in character. I would have the R as a daily, but the GR Yaris as a weekend car.

Hi Redsiput - i used a tripod with panning handle removed, tied down with bungee cord. I also have a rig made to order, costs about RM488. Whatsapp me at 0163350600 and I can share a pic of that. I use that rig for all cars with bucket seats.

I don't quite understand what you are asking or commenting about. The road is the same road, so the turns are the same. Maybe it is the camera angle?

Needs some training, but it can be done; I am pretty sure some younger drivers can go even faster.

The Mk7 R is a potent car. The mk8 GTi has a few horses less, but is definitely slower than the Mk7 R . Better to go for Mk8 R

@@YSKhongDriving Thank you. I would go for the R, but here in USA is almost impossible to find and there is none in the state that I live. Also all Golf Rs come with sun/moonroof and leather seats as standard and I do not like these options. We have three Mk8 GTis for sale in my state .Two are S model with no sunroof , but with with DSG and plaid seats. I like it a lot. I think golf R will beat GTi from a standstill race, but in everyday street driving and on the back roads Gti will be very close behind R. And here in states Gti is 13000 USD cheaper.

Excellent question. I think the main difference is power, then power to weight ratio, and whether you want manual or auto. The Golf R has a DCT, the Gr Corolla comes in manual, although an auto is also available somewhere.

@@YSKhongDriving GR will have auto soon but it wont be as good as VW auto, my question is driving wise. how did awd system perform on both cars? And lower which has better acceleration

The 340i is a family car, bigger. This one is built sporty, straight out of the box can go play. For a nice family sporty saloon, the 350i would be good, but for track use without any mods, and is more engaging to drive, this would be it.

They were what came with the car. I guess the local distributors have a say in what kind of specs they want.

Maybe I was not driving fast enough. And that car had 4 wheel steering. Maybe that helped. That is a great car too.
